Secrets of Suspensyst

The Weight of the Future, part 3

The Weight of the Future, part 3

May 21, 2025

— So? — Therris asked, fused with a massive tree covered in moss. Her voice was calm and soothing.

— May was right, indeed. Her vision came true, — Eurus replied, sitting on a tree stump in front of the plant elemental. — It’s terrifying that someone can possess such power, enough to foresee tomorrow.

— More importantly... — Therris murmured — did you manage to convince Hambar to train him? The boy must fulfill May’s vision.

— I made it happen, — he replied with a faint smile. — Actually, I think he would’ve done it anyway. Even if we change the means, everything always leads to some end.

— Yes... though I believe her power is extremely limited.

— Limited? She can see an entire year into the future, storing every detail in her mind! She should be considered a Divergent!

— Eurus, Divergents are those who wield forces beyond the basic elements we were given.

— And do all Divergents end up looking as strange as you? — he mocked.

— You know very well why I became what I am today, — she answered, her voice growing more serious.

— Anyway, Hambar will take care of the boy. He’ll bring water back to the kingdom. There’s nothing to worry about. I need to return to watching the seal’s borders. Enjoy your photosynthesis, — he said with sarcasm as he stood up to leave.

— You have the potential to become a gravity Divergent, Eurus. Don’t forget that.

Eurus scoffed in disdain, turning his back to her and walking away, visibly annoyed.

— Eurus... — Therris sighed, slowly being swallowed by the moss of the tree. — How long will you keep resisting this?

Therris was an earth elemental, a Divergent of plants. Unlike many, she was not an elf, but a human. After reaching the white core and experiencing a mysterious event — one she never spoke about — she transformed into the being she is today: virtually immortal.

The source of her power was so immense that not even May, with her perception core, could comprehend it. That’s why Therris and her secrets remained shrouded in mystery. Although she posed no threat and was regarded as a guardian of the forest, some believed that, being human and lacking elven lineage, she could never become a true Blessed one or awaken her full potential.

The world has changed. Creatures once known only for their savagery now act with calculated coldness, unusual intelligence, and a thirst for blood. Humans, fragile in the face of the unknown, have built combat academies to forge warriors, adventurers, and explorers — but even they are unprepared for what lies ahead.

Beta, a ten-year-old boy, lives in an isolated village alongside his closest friends. His dreams of becoming an explorer seem far from the brutal reality beginning to unfold. Monsters are evolving. New entities, never before cataloged, are emerging from the shadows. No one knows if they were always there, hidden, or if something — or someone — has set them free.

As villages vanish and terror spreads, Beta is forced to leave behind the innocence of childhood. A dark force is granting power to the creatures. And he is willing to cross even the two most powerful kingdoms on Earth to face whatever is behind it… or die trying.
