Hello Ex
Days passed, and Ezekiel kept checking on me—asking if I was okay, if I needed company. But I always said I was fine and that I would reach out when I was ready to talk. He patiently waited for that moment.
Eventually, the day came when I felt stable enough. I was the one to call him first. I told him I wanted to meet at the café where he first saw me. He agreed and even canceled his last schedule that afternoon just for me.
Hello Ex
I took a taxi to the café since Mom was using my car to visit Cyrus’s grave.
When I stepped inside, I saw Ezekiel waving at me. I smiled and walked over to his table.
“Am I late?” I teased.
“Not really. It’s a miracle you called me first. Are you throwing a party?” he joked.
I laughed. Ezekiel was always the one to start our texts, making sure the conversation stayed lively so I wouldn’t get bored. I was grateful—at least someone was reminding me there was still a future.
“I already ordered chocolate cake for us.”
“Why just one slice?”
“To save money.”
“Tsk, you’re just being cheap.”
“Hmmm, just a little,” I said, lightly hitting him as we both laughed.
I noticed he also ordered an apple shake—still the same childish taste. I had a cappuccino, just to change things up. Always trying to be trendy!
“Are you okay now?” he asked, his tone serious.
“I’m okay. I’ve accepted everything. And I realized this isn’t what Bunsoy wanted for me. He wouldn’t want me to be sad, because Mom and Dad would be sad too.”
“They should be,” he said softly.
“Do you know what I discovered?”
“Hmm? What?”
“That before all this happened, I didn’t realize how bright the world could be. And when I reached for you with just a little breath of life—it was love that called me fearlessly.” His eyes widened at my words.
“What—”
“I loved how you watched over me, my heart fluttering every time you held my hand so gently. I felt this before with Mhyko, but this time was different. I started to get greedy. I wanted to be with you always, to grow old with you.”
“Cyline,” his expression softened as he took both my hands in his. “It was a blessing in disguise the first time I saw you. I never knew I’d feel those new feelings—wanting to be happy with you, not make you cry like your ex did.”
“I’ve already forgotten everything. I’ve moved on because I want to be with you—if that’s okay with you.” He didn’t answer with words; instead, he kissed my hands and then my forehead. I closed my eyes, savoring the moment.
“Why would I say no? Even if you tie me down, it’s okay with me.”
“You’re such a flirt!” we both laughed and decided to go on a date right then and there.
Hello Ex
Months passed. Ezekiel proposed, and we planned to live where his business abroad was based. Mom agreed, and just a few days later, we got married. Only family and close relatives attended the wedding. We hadn’t left the country yet because my contract wasn’t finished. Ezekiel even wanted to pay to end it early, but I told him to wait. I wanted to spend more time with Bunsoy before moving abroad.
But before we left, Mhyko met me one last time to explain everything.
I learned that Cyrus had long ago offered Mhyko his heart for a transplant, knowing that one day he might no longer be here. The breakup between Mhyko and me happened when Cyrus was about to have surgery—not knowing if he’d survive. Mhyko initially refused Cyrus’s offer, instead accepting another—one he called a “miracle”—which wasn’t really a miracle, but a two-year waiting period.
I also found out that Cyrus had been monitoring Mhyko’s condition all along. His offer to give his heart was still open, but Mhyko was reluctant to accept it. That’s probably why Cyrus never wanted Mhyko near me—because he knew Mhyko’s real reason for leaving.
When Cyrus found out Mhyko’s heart was failing again, he insisted once more that Mhyko accept the transplant. Eventually, Mhyko agreed. Cyrus had already told Mom and Dad about his plan to donate his heart if anything happened. At first, Mom refused, but Cyrus convinced her.
The day Mom borrowed my car was the day they visited Mhyko to check if the transplant had been successful. Thankfully, it was.
I cried quietly hearing all of this. I thought Cyrus was truly gone, but he had left something alive inside us—a piece of him living on in another.
Mhyko truly loved me, but it was too late. My heart had already moved on, and now I was married to Ezekiel. Mhyko was happy for me, and I was glad he found someone else to love—not the “miracle” I once knew, but another patient he met during his hospital stay.
We’re both happy now, living separate lives filled with new love, filling the emptiness we once felt. Our past relationship remains only a memory of the trials we survived.
Back then, I wanted to say HELLO EX and take revenge for our sudden breakup. But now, it’s GOODBYE EX—wishing each other a life full of happiness and success.
This is Cyline Velez-Buenavista, and this is the end of my story.
