Pumpkin Sisters (NV)

Rotten Junkyard

Rotten Junkyard

May 31, 2025

7 pm, it was evening time, Geneva had spent the rest of the afternoon inside trying to recollect her sanity after witnessing something completely abnormal happen for the first time in her life. She ended up eating a meal and reading a book to try and get her mind off this. But she couldn't, still in disbelief, she went back out to her gardening area to see what the little pumpkins were up to.

She put her right hand on the back entrance door and pushed it forward slowly. While slowly walking out, she caught eyes with the orange and green one chasing each other around like they were kids playing tag. They now seemed like they were past the point of learning how to walk and run, as their footing was much better on the ground. She continued eying them as they started laughing like little kids. The green one jumped onto the orange one, and they fell to the ground.

They started tickling each other after playing a game of tag, which is a game they didn't know existed or know the name of, but Geneva knew they were playing it.

"Aah!" The little green pumpkin mischievously smiled.

"Hahaha!" The little orange pumpkin laughed from getting tickled.

After their transformation, the little pale one just sat in silence and watched the other two pumpkins play around. Just from demeanor, Geneva instantly guessed that this pumpkin was quiet and maybe shy. She didn't say anything until the other two pumpkins noticed her. The two eventually stopped when they noticed they were being watched by some being or animal standing right behind them. The sound of the door slowly being closed caught their attention.

Geneva's facial expression went from slightly shocked to now nervous, but somewhat calm. She sighed and finally gave in to talking to these now sentient pumpkins. She didn't mean any true malice towards the little pumpkins; it's just that she didn't know how exactly to interact with them. She wasn't confident that they knew how to talk or understand her language, but she gave it a shot.

There was silence until she knelt on the grassy ground to get closer to them. She introduced herself first before they did. She noticed they tensed up a bit when she got closer, which was a sign of nervousness from them.

"Uhh, hello...p-pumpkins," She awkwardly spoke.

"Hello!" the orange pumpkin shouted.

"Huh?" The green pumpkin showed a facial expression that meant skepticism. They immediately wondered who this being was.

"..." The pale pumpkin was still sitting in silence.

"So, uh... how are you... Three doing that?" She rubbed the back of her head and tilted in confusion.

"I-I don't know," The orange one shrugged; they didn't exactly know or understand the question the tall being said.

Geneva's eyebrows rose as she was shocked to hear they could speak English now. She wondered how they were able to learn the language. It was like they learnt it very quickly without traditional methods, but they didn't exactly gain fluent status yet. She started to realize that the more they spoke.

"How are you doing that?"

"Whaa?" The green one spoke, feeling skeptical.

She continued speaking to the three as the sun quickly kept going down in the sky. She still asked questions to see if these pumpkins had any genuine answers to their behavior, but they just didn't know. It wasn't like they were being dumb on purpose.

"How are you able to talk and walk on your stubby little legs? You three are pumpkins, and usually you aren't supposed to do that."

"I-I don't know, me and my-" the orange pumpkin slightly frowned with slight frustration. They didn't understand how.

"P-Pumpkins? Pumpkins can't do that?"

"Yeah, but the fact you three can do so... makes you three very special," Geneva explained. She needed to give them an understandable word.

"Special?"

There was a little bit of silence between the last conversation and the next, once Geneva noticed it was now dark out. She looked up at the sky, the stars were out, and nighttime was here. She now wondered where Franklin had gone, as he had disappeared after their conversation earlier today. Maybe the visitors had him fully occupied, but she was still worried.

She got comfortable by sitting on the grassy ground. She crossed her legs and told the pumpkins a secret that she withheld from her husband. She gave them a name, not knowing if they were gonna be thrown away, but she didn't know if they already knew or not. She stupidly thought that maybe they had ears, probably heard what she said earlier this morning, but they aren't visible.

"Hey, I gave you three names. Did you happen to hear it earlier?"

"What's a name?" the orange pumpkin now looked confused.

"Well, I named you Oak, you Gaia, and I guess your name would be... Winter," She pointed to each pumpkin individually.

There was silence until the orange pumpkin jumped in excitement and smiled at the reveal of their names. They pretty much accepted their names, as it was a new identity revelation in their time of being awake. They now learned what a name was, and it was pretty important. All three of them smiled and shook their heads.

"I like it!" Oak cheered.

"It fits," Gaia smiled.

"Yah!" Winter shouted.

Ah! The bonding that ensues! Geneva was making a mistake that she didn't know would affect her later on. She ended up accidentally bonding to the little pumpkins the more she interacted with them for the rest of the evening and night. She realized it was time to head in, she could feel the cool air from earlier getting colder as time went on, as it hit her face constantly.

"Hey, why don't you three come with me inside? It's getting chilly out, and the farmhouse is nice, warm, and cozy," She smiled.

"Ya!" Winter agreed.

"Chilly?" Gaia rubbed her right and left arm stubs together.

"Yes, it's getting cold, sweetie," She spoke as she scooped up the three little pumpkins into her arms and walked back inside the house.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She held them close as she walked through the sunroom area, the kitchen, the living room, and the hallway stairway. Oak, Gaia, and Winter looked around constantly, as they saw so many different things they'd never seen before. It was now toasty and cozy, Gaia swung her arms all around, feeling the warm air after the shivering went away. Geneva just concluded that her husband would do with cleanup at the end of the day, chores.

"So, this is the farmhouse, where the farmer and I live. We store a lot of crops, plants, and we also own a lot of animals that roam the land."

"Farmer? Who's that?" Gaia questioned.

"He's my husband and teammate that I've lived with ever since we moved here."

She reached her den bedroom after walking up the long stairway. Her shoulders and face dropped from the stress of getting everything done all day. It was a continuous cycle that would continue regardless. She already had to get ready for tomorrow, since her husband was gonna leave the farm to go handle business, but at least his brother Jim would drop by to help.

"This seems cozy," Gaia smiled as they looked all around the entire room. It was a brand-new environment to them. Every single environment they went into was different from the next, this one was more enclosed and personal. The lady had a king-sized bed with pillows, a comforter, and hand hand-thrown blanket. A nice rug, a check compartment, drawers, a closet with clothing, some pictures that showed her, her husband, other family members, and their college-aged children.

She gently put the three down on the queen-sized bed and instantly told them it was bedtime. As she had forgotten how late it was from talking too much. She needed to rest, and so as well as the pumpkins. Although she didn't know if they could sleep or not, it was better than just leaving them out in the uncomfortable cold night air.

"The farmer isn't here right now, as he's tending to animals, but we can enjoy the warmth before it gets chilly again,"

Oak landed on the soft, cushiony bed with a small bounce. They immediately started jumping up and down, as the bounciness was quite fun. Both Gaia and Winter followed behind. Geneva insisted that she could read them a bedtime story, as a way to calm them down and see if they could fall asleep.

She individually got one by one tucked under the soft comforter blanket, she noticed they were showing some sleepiness in their eyes. Winter had yawned when she got comfortable, alongside Oak and Gaia. The softness was so satisfying to feel against the durable hard shell of their body.

"Alright, little ones, it's bedtime. Does anyone want to hear a bedtime story?" Geneva smiled.

"S-Story?" Winter yawned.

"I-I guess..." Oak rubbed her eyes.

"Bedtime?" Gaia mumbled. She wondered what that meant, but she would find out by lowering her eyes.

Geneva got a book read for about five minutes before she started yawning. The night was wrapping up quickly, as she saw them one by one close their eyes and fall to sleep. It was now true that they could fall asleep; it was another weird revelation for her. She kissed each pumpkin on the forehead, moved them to the middle of the bed, and wished them goodnight. The motherly instincts kicked in more as time went on, and it was the worst thing she could've done.

"Goodnight, sweet pumpkins," Geneva softly spoke.

A thunderstorm was brewing early the next day, and it was grey skies and dim outside. The heavy clouds blocked the sunny blue sky above and lowered light visibility. Franklin made himself fatigued from trying to avoid going to sleep early, as he knew he would be busy the next day. He instantly regretted it, waking up to heavy pouring rain outside. A streak of lightning flashed outside every few seconds. He sat up, facing the window of their room.

He felt so miserable, his body was low on energy, and he just needed a break. Luckily, he was able to walk away from chores for an hour or two, because he remembered that he needed to get rid of those pumpkins that his wife had found yesterday. His seriousness in selling perfect quality pumpkins was at a perfectionist level, and it was another side effect caused by capitalism. As, he didn't want to screw up the potential of earning money, because of their quality being bad.

The farmer started getting ready for the day. He jumped in shock after realizing his wife let the three pumpkins sleep in their bed. Never once had his wife done this ever since they moved to the farm. He walked a long way to reach his old truck, finding out the front wheels were stuck in the mud from the rain. He spent five minutes trying to solve that problem. Afterwards, he gathered the three little pumpkins into a brown sack and tied the end, and threw them into the back of his truck.

The truck accelerated onto the dirt road as the rain continued to descend. Franklin made a quick drive to a local junkyard that many rural citizens used, as everyone out here was too far to use a city or town-owned one. "Alright, let's get these out of here," He mumbled under his breath while driving.

He had some final thoughts in his mind about the pumpkins. He didn't exactly believe in supernatural or sci-fi, but something weird was going on the more he thought about the little pumpkins. He has never seen this before, and none of his friends have ever seen it, probably, as well as his brother. He just gave up on the idea of wanting to ask.

The wheels moved over the dirt, jagged road with many rocks and a few broken tree branches from fallen tall trees. This storm was so strong that Franklin could spot a few tree branches and leaves falling off from high winds. He was more worried that he would encounter a tornado on his journey to the junkyard. There were no gas stations or small pop shops for miles. What also sucked is that there was not a lot of road lamp lights to help illuminate this long dirt road, but it was connected to a regular asphalt road that had lights, as it was an main highway road between two connected suburban towns.

He turned his headlights on as he continued through this rough storm. His phone started to ring, he answered to hear his brother Jim had arrived. He spoke to fill the silence, as his radio antenna wasn't working and there was no signal.

"Hey, Frank, how's it goin?"

He sighs and explains how he feels about the whole ordeal and reveals, "I-I don't know what to do, so I'm gonna just throw them away at the junkyard." He sounded defeated.

"Really? Talking pumpkins, huh?"

"Yeah, it sounds stupid, but it is true... I mean my wife found out before me, and we can't have that around any visitors who come to our pumpkin patch event this year," He complained.

"Well, I feel like you are lying, but who knows? I wasn't there."

"Jim, I wouldn't be driving right now if I were lying," Franklin pouted, upon his brother not believing what he was saying.

"Hahaha! Okay, I'm sorry! I believe you, but it sucks that I didn't get to meet them,"

"I can't have them running around the farm, okay! It's not normal!" He continued to complain by making himself sternly clear about his decision. While the phone call conversation continued between Franklin and his brother Jim, the brown sack flew around in the trunk. The roughness of the road caused turbulence in the truck, which caused Oak, Gaia, and Winter to wake up upon seeing complete darkness.

"W-Where are we?" Oak yawned and rubbed her eyes, but all she could see was darkness. There was no light or color anywhere from her perspective. The same can be said for Gaia and Winter, who woke up shortly after her.

"Huh?" Gaia mumbled.

"It's dark," Winter shaking a bit in fear.

The truck kept moving, as it hadn't reached the destination yet. They were now far away from the temporary home, but inside their mind, that was their real home. The roughness of reality was about to hit them like a blitzing freight train. They were now considered lost from their temporary home, and utter confusion was gonna invade them again. Gaia stumbled about in the darkness of the brown sack; she couldn't walk around as she wanted, as the movement of the truck was rough. But she tried her best to feel around the darkness they were in.

"Something is covering us."

Oak and Winter followed behind by feeling around the dark environment, it was obvious that they were all together. But they couldn't understand how they went from a warm bed to a dark environment that was sorta hard to move around in. Communicating was important, so they started talking and stopped feeling around in the darkness.

"W-Where's the warm bed?" Winter questioned.

"I-I don't know, but it's so dark," Oak confused.

"Why is it so bumpy?" Gaia's eyebrow drooped in confusion and worry.

"I think we're in a bag?" Oak shrugged.

Both Gaia and Winter's eyes grew with shock, "Huh?" They both looked at Oak, wondering what an bag was.
