Albert: The M family... are not your average 'stable' family. Especially Alaina and her kids. I feel sorry for the people married into their family...
Robert: I am thankful that I saved two girls from marrying there. Who knows how they would be treated?
Dax: The M family... are dangerous.
5 YEARS LATER
TIME: 09:00 am
Selene's POV
"Ma'am, there is a lady here that wants to speak with you."
I looked at Jara, my secretary. I knew who it was, and I made up my mind.
I was never going to speak with her again.
"No need for that, tell her to go back home," I said, turning back to my laptop.
My company was not going to run itself and I had better things to do than argue with someone who should have guided me years ago rather than abandon me when I needed her the most.
Before Jana could continue further, she walked in.
"Selene!" She shouted, "You rebel!"
I stopped typing and looked at her.
"Alaina!" I exclaimed, putting on a smile, "How lovely to see you again!"
Alaina was my grandma. She had high expectations of her favorites and too bad I was not her favorite, now here I am, owning biggest company of the country.
Jana tried calming her down but she pushed her away, and I snapped.
"Don't you ever do that to Jana. If you have a problem, you attack it directly, not through third parties, okay?" I said, locking eyes with her.
"You will pay for everything you did! You ruined the family's image!"
"Slow down grandma, you wouldn't want to return back to the hospital now, would you?" I said, calling the guards.
"Please escort her out," I said, as they took her away.
"Selene!" She shouted once more, "You will get a taste of your own medicine!"
"Bye!" I exclaimed as I gave her a wave.
They closed the door and I immediately turned to Jana.
"Are you okay? She isn't the nicest of people, especially when she's angry," I said.
"I am good thanks for helping there, though you made her a bit more angrier than yesterday."
"Please, as they always say, the truth hurts more than a lie. She will be fine."
"But still!"
"Do you want to take my place as granddaughter and feel her "love" then?" I asked.
"No Ma'am," Jana replied, "I will get going now."
"No message from Ramiro?"
Ramiro was an alibi I made after posting the video. Owns a successful company and quite the looker. Not that I cared, but he was pretty useful when it came to sources.
"How did you know that there was a message from Ramiro?" Jana asked suspiciously.
"Just a hunch. It would be unlike him to not have a message for me," I replied, brushing it off, "So?"
"He wants you to meet him at 12 noon," she replied.
"I will be there," I replied.
With a nod, she walked out of the office, while I walked to the window. I looked at Alaina struggling in the hands of the guards. I shook my head, feeling sympathetic for the tough job I gave the guards. She was not an easy person to deal with.
Just at that very moment, I received a call from Ramiro.
"Ramiro."
"Selene. I got bad news for you."
"Okay?"
"Your family... they are sending threats now."
"You know that doesn't scare me right Ramiro?"
"True, but they said they have evidence of you with your uncle's business partners at some event."
"And do you believe it?"
"Why would I?"
"You can't tell what or who's telling the truth. Why believe me?"
"Because I have been with the family to know how toxic they are."
I smirked, "I like you."
"Be careful what you wish for Sel."
"See you at 12."
"Bye."
I turned to my desk and continued with my search. My aunt ran away from home at 16 and never looked back. I was told she's in the city and I asked Ramiro to do a background check on her.
Ramiro, like the trustworthy man he is, sent the details via email. Opening them, I immediately received her location.
"Just an hour away from here," I said to myself, "Time I pay her a visit."
12 Noon
"You called me out just to have lunch?" I asked, irritated at how Ramiro easily got to me yet I tolerated it.
"We are at the climax of Alaina's downfall, I wouldn't want you collapsing on me," Ramiro argued.
Shaking my head, I changed the topic.
"Anyway, thanks for the info about Raella," I said, "I will pay her a visit."
"You think she will simply open up to you?" Ramiro argued, "Everyone around her betrayed her."
"Who said I am going to ask for trust?" I replied, a smirk growing on my lips, "If not open up to me, then how about to the public?"
Ramiro fell back on his seat, a smirk on his lips, "You're dangerous Selene."
"Then why are you here?" I asked, "You know you might burn right? Run away while you still can."
"I might as well get burnt anyway," he replied, "Because I am here to stay through every fire."
I leaned in, "It's time for some skeletons to come out of the closet, don't you think?"
Ramiro nodded, coming closer, "First step?"
"Let's start with the main source to all the secrets."
"Raella M."
