The Master’s Oath

Echoes of the Corrupted Ruins

Echoes of the Corrupted Ruins

May 23, 2025

After purifying the village and saying farewell to the legendary Sacred Skinner, Kael and Lys continued down the road, leaving chaos — and the stench — behind.

A few kilometers ahead, the grimório floated beside Kael, blinking discreetly.

> New Mission Detected:
> “Corrupted Energy Anomaly Nearby.”
> Reward: ???

Kael sighed.

“Not again…”

Lys looked around, alert.

“What is it?”

Kael activated his ability:

> “Residual Vital Trail — Activated.”

His eyes glowed amber and, through mystical infrared, he saw a putrid energy trail slithering through dead vegetation, disappearing into ancient ruins.

He pointed.

“Over there.”

Lys adjusted her spear, smirking.

“Only you could sniff out something like this…”

Kael just muttered:

“It’s a gift… or a curse.”

Lys, sincerely, without exaggeration:

“Either way… supreme master, as always.”

Kael just huffed and moved on.

---

The trail led to a forgotten region: ruins devoured by vegetation, covered in a dense, putrid mist.
Collapsed columns, shattered statues — remnants of a once-grand civilization…
Now rotting, corroded by the lesser god’s curse.

Kael leaned against a stone wall, following the invisible trail to a hidden crevice.

With a slight push, he revealed a narrow passage.

“Found it.”

Lys smiled.

“Of course we did.
Supreme master.”

Kael rolled his eyes, entering first.

“You never get tired of that, huh?”

“Not at all.”

---

They cautiously descended through a complex of damp, rotting tunnels.

There, they found the rot:
Enslaved workers toiling silently, heavy chains, vacant stares…
Guarded by deformed thugs, half-human, half-abomination, corrupted by the curse.

In the center, a large hall, where a grotesque figure — the Lesser God’s Avatar — ruled:
Three meters tall, vacant eyes, putrid energy tentacles sprouting from its back.

Kael and Lys hid behind a broken pillar.

Lys, whispering:

“Is that him?”

Kael nodded.

“Not the god itself…
Just a filthy extension.”

---

Kael discreetly activated Vital Expulsion, weakening nearby chains.
Some slaves noticed, but Kael raised a finger:

> “Silence.”

One of them — a young man, disheveled hair but a fierce gaze despite his weakness — stared at Kael, a mix of surprise and hope.

---

Kael moved forward, stopping a few meters from the Avatar, who tortured two tied-up rebels.

“YOUR SUFFERING FEEDS OUR GOD!
THERE IS NO ESCAPE!”

Kael cleared his throat.

“Hey.
Crap god.”

The Avatar turned, pure rage.

“WHO DARES?!”

Kael took a step forward, grimório beside him.

“I do.”

Lys crossed her arms, whispering:

“Here we go…”

---

The Avatar roared:

“INSOLENT MORTAL! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT POWER YOU FACE!”

Kael scratched his neck, bored:

“I just know it stinks.”

The Avatar launched a putrid wave.

Kael raised his hand, activating Vital Expulsion:

> FOOOOOOM!

The foul energy dissipated instantly.

Kael raised his gaze, cold:

“That’s it?”

The Avatar, furious, charged with a grotesque axe.

Kael sidestepped, grabbed the handle with one hand, and with a dry twist, threw the Avatar against the wall.

“Too weak to be a god.”

Lys, in the background:

“Always impressive, supreme master…”

Kael sighed.

“Just did the basics.”

---

Before he could finish, the ground shook.
The voice of the Lesser God echoed invisibly:

> “INSOLENT MORTALS… YOU’VE CROSSED THE LINE… THE CURSE WILL FOLLOW YOU!”

The Avatar, wounded but not dead, dissolved into putrid mist, escaping through the cracks.

Kael clenched his fists.

“Coward…”

---

The young man Kael had freed approached, kneeling:

“Please…
Teach me.
Make me strong… like you.”

Kael looked, impassive.

Lys, beaming:

“Another disciple, supreme master!”

Kael closed his eyes and let out a resigned sigh.

“…Sure. Why not?”

---

The grimório glowed:

> Mission Updated:
> “Defeat the Lesser God and fully liberate the ruins.”
> Reward: ???

Kael closed the grimório.

“This is going to take longer than I wanted…
…but it’ll be fun.”

And he looked at Lys and the new disciple, now part of the journey.

Kael Thorne was just a regular guy from Earth — until he woke up in a world where power rules, masters are gods, and survival depends on how well you can fake it.

With a secret system only he can see, an invisible grimoire handing out absurd rewards, and a floating ghost version of his inner panic, Kael must maintain the facade of a legendary Master while learning how this world works one bluff at a time.

In a corrupt land ruled by strength, Kael might just become a legend — as long as no one finds out he's making it all up.
