"Selene, we have to move!" Ramiro exclaimed, we were both hiding behind a car for cover. "It's intense."
I nodded. "And Noa?"
"She can handle herself," Ramiro replied.
"And I can't?" I asked teasingly. True, it might not be the right time to be joking but...
"Not when it comes to your safety."
I averted my gaze to the car and back at Ramiro after some seconds. "Okay sir. Lead the way."
He took control and led me to the cars quietly so as not to draw attention to ourselves. Just then, another ring shot out and Ramiro and I quickly ducked, Alaina's car took the hit, but we couldn't look back and headed to the car. He got to the steering wheel and drove off. Noa followed, Jana and Ria following from behind and sliding into Noa's car.
I looked back to see the scene but I immediately felt pain on my leg, Ramiro turning to look at me. I looked down at my leg to see blood trickling down to my ankle. I chuckled as I pushed my hair back. Ramiro followed my hand and hit on the gas pedals, rushing as if I was dying.
"It's just a shot-"
"You could have a leg complication if left unattended," he said, looking at me briefly before his gaze returned to the road.
***
My consciousness came and went, the seer pain in my leg intensifying - I refused to wince, nor show emotion. Ramiro took me to his place, carrying me in bridal style, asking me to stay awake.
"Ramiro," I said, blinking slowly. "It's just... a shot-"
"Selene, no."
He opened his mansion door and placed me on the couch. My eyes were closed though still conscious. Ramiro quickly ran to get the first-aid kit. My thoughts traveled back to Noa at the event. How she started exposing Kevin's manipulative persona... the way she, without a second thought, shot Kevin.
"Sel, you with me?" Ramiro asked as pulled me leg to him. "It's going to hurt badly."
"It's not like there's a serious part of the leg that's-"
I closing my eyes tightly, my hands turned into fists as I tried to stay strong when Ramiro tended to my leg. He is great in the medical field, though I always wondered why he never pursued it. I chuckled and Ramiro asked what was funny.
"Thanks Ramiro."
"For what, Sel?"
"For being my wingman," I said, my speech slow, "And my doctor."
With that, I fell into unconsciousness.
THE NEXT MORNING
"How's Kevin?"
"He's in hospital now, recovering."
"Did he say anything about last night?"
"Nothing except that he loved the fire you had."
"Anything else?"
"Nothing. Your Dad says he wants to see you."
"Today?"
"No, on Saturday."
"Thanks for letting me know, I will be there."
I woke up with a groan, checking my surrounding before catching sight of Noa. She was on a serious phone call and was pacing around, grabbing a can of energy drink to keep herself awake. She dropped the call and looked at me. There was a warm smile welcoming me, happy to see me.
"Selene!" Noa exclaimed, walking up to me. "How are you? How's your leg?"
"It's good, thanks."
I looked around for Ramiro, but was nowhere in sight. "Where is Ramiro?"
"He quickly went out to do something, he said he will be back-"
"Sel!" Ramiro exclaimed, a warm smile on his face. "You are awake."
Noa silently excused herself as she left him and I alone in the living room. She walked out to the backyard and sat on the seats close to the swimming pools. Ramiro checked on my leg and changed the bandage wrappings.
"You can't work with this leg. Take some time off," Ramiro said.
"I can't," I replied. "I've got a company to run."
"Not with your leg in this condition," he answered. "Just two days."
The thought of doing nothing for two days was going to kill me. I reluctantly agreed and Ramiro put Jana in charge. He too took a break from work for the very two days. I got up and Ramiro sat next to me.
"So what's next?" Ramiro asked.
"Well, we lie low for some time," I said, finally speaking after some time. "But I need to find out more about who runs the pages for Cybric Flash News."
"What help would that give?" He asked, puzzled by my course of action.
"If Irina is giving the news to CFN as seen recently, surely we can come to an agreement to expose the other side of the story. I know he has the info. I just need the right type of pressure to make them crack."
"I can give them a call this afternoon to set up-"
"Oh no Ramiro," I said, a smirk on my lips. "We give them a surprise visit. Surely they can't return the very person who is making them famous, right?"
Ramiro smirked. "A smart girl you are Sel."
"But another thing needs to work if we can get the info we need."
Ramiro waited for me to continue.
"I know Noa is going to hate me for this but-"
"What horrible idea are you thinking, Selene?" Noa, at that very moment, came back into the living room.
"If we need more information, we need to keep our closest connection to the family close," I said, looking at Noa. "Since they have cut ties with me completely, and the family still wants you and Kevin to work out..."
"You want me to get back with him to find more intel?" Noa asked, and I nodded. Noa was extremely smart, jealous down. Before I could continue, Noa agreed.
"Okay."
"Okay?" Ramiro and I asked, puzzled by her sudden agreement.
"I will get back with him," she said, with a smirk. "It would be nice to strike the cord where it really hurts the most."
"Which is?" I asked.
"Exposing Summer's most darkest history - her marriage to Ray."
