Four days after signing the divorce papers, I called Jack. He answered the phone slowly and said indifferently, "What is it?"

I hummed in response. 

"Are you free tomorrow? Let's go to the civil affairs bureau."

There was a short pause on the other end. 

"I'm on a business trip. We'll talk when I'm back."

"How long will you be away?"

"Not sure!"

"Jack!" I emphasized each word. "I need a definite time."

"I said it's not certain!" His voice rose, with a hint of impatience.

 "I've already signed the divorce papers. Are you afraid I'll run away?"

"Two days."

"What?"

I said, "I'll give you two days. If you show up at the civil affairs bureau the day after tomorrow, I'll spare you some dignity. 

Otherwise, I'll tell your friends and family about your affair."



As soon as I finished speaking, he hung up the phone. 

I could imagine how angry he was. He might even throw his phone against the wall. 

I didn't care if he was really busy or just making excuses. 

I only cared about getting this divorce over with as soon as possible.



To my surprise, Jack came to my place the next evening.

"How did you get here?"

"I need to ask you something."

"What is it?"



Jack looked at me and sneered. "Am I not even allowed to come in now?" 

His sarcasm made me frown. "What exactly are you trying to say?"



Jack's face darkened. "Lily, you've gone too far. This is our business. You shouldn't pick on a young girl."

"What are you talking about?"

"Don't deny it!" His eyes were full of mockery. 

"Do you dare to say that you have nothing to do with Sarah losing her scholarship?"

"Sarah? Who?"



A deep voice suddenly sounded. Jack was startled. "Brother?"



Jack's older brother, Tom, walked out from behind me, looking at Jack expressionlessly. "Who is Sarah?"



Jack looked at me and then at his brother. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm asking you. Who is Sarah?"

"It's none of your business!"

"Are you going to tell me yourself, or should I find out on my own?"



Jack pressed his lips together tightly and stubbornly refused to speak. 

I was getting a headache. "Tom, go inside first. I'll talk to him."



Tom wanted to say something else, but I interrupted him. 

"This is between Jack and me. Stay out of it!" After a moment of confrontation, Tom finally went back into the room.



Looking at Jack, I let out a sigh. "I don't know anything about Sarah's scholarship. 

If you used your head, you wouldn't have come to me. 

If I really wanted to get back at her, I could use the photos of your affair and the evidence of your financial support to get her expelled. 

Jack, I just want a divorce. I don't want any more trouble."
