Chapter 8
Samuel ran out of the Study to get Jackson, who was on the lawn area. While he was running he ran into Harry Moss again, and made them both trip in the halls.
Harry got up and glared at Samuel, “Watch where you're going Knight!”
Samuel got up and started running again, “Whatever!” Samuel and Harry were starting to have a bit of a rivalry, but it didn’t matter at the moment. Samuel ran into the lawn, and saw Jackson practicing combat on his own. “Jack!”
Jackson turned around, “What’s up?” He put his new sword down.
“I found something we could explore, and I thought you might want to join in.”
Jackson smiled, “Of course!”
Samuel and Jackson ran back to the library, but while on their way back…
"Hey, knight!” Samuel turned around to see Harry, and some of his friends storming toward them.
“Hey Harry, sorry about the little incident earlier. We have to go so maybe…” Before Samuel could finish his sentence, Harry had gotten close enough to punch him in the face. “That was fun.” Samuel whispered under his breath.
“Sam!” Jackson ran to confront Harry, “What are you doing?”
“Showing this Knight who’s boss, knight’s have plagued us for years coming up with these fake fairy tales. We don't need them, nobody does.” Harry turned to Samuel, “It’s time to teach you two a lesson about who’s in charge.”
Harry and his friends dragged Samuel and Jackson into the middle of the lawn.
“Well Knight, what do you think of us? ‘We’re all equal, together we can do this and that.’ All you knight’s say is how much better we can be, and not how good we are.” Harry stared at Samuel with rage, “I think it’s time for you two to show us what you really are. I’ve seen your magic, it’s good. It’s not good enough to stop all four of us though. So that’s what I think, and let’s show everyone here what you think.” Harry stood with his friends, waiting for a response.
Samuel pretended to be surprised, “Oh, you were talking to me? I thought you were doing one of those whole villain backstory things.”
Harry got even more angry, “You asked for this when you came here!” Harry yelled.
Samuel got ready, “Actually, no. I didn’t.” Samuel didn’t have his sword on him, but he had all the magic in the world.
Harry ran straight at Samuel, but Samuel easily dodged it.
“Got anything better?” Samuel said with a smile.
Harry ran at Samuel again, the same way he had done before with the same outcome.
“Really, this is getting repetitive so can I just go?” Samuel asked,
“You think you're so smart, but you know the magic you control has its limits. All I have to do is tire them.” Harry continued monaloging, like he was the only person in the world.
“Well yes, but I always have the choice of just not using my magic.” Samuel explained to the obviously anger filled student. The only thing Samuel was wondering was why.
Harry took another swing, with Samuel dodging every hit he made.
“Seriously, Harry. What do you have against me?” Samuel asked,
“Well, first of all, until you showed up the Controllers weren’t doing anything sinister. Second of all, you defeated me in combat while showing everyone in class how good at magic you are. Finally and worst of all, you killed my brother.” Harry had tears in his eyes.
Samuel was wide eyed, “What do you mean I killed your brother!”
Harry continued swinging his sword, “ShoppingStows, my brother was one of the adventurers who was sent to kill the Camorji. Which was controlled by the controllers, who were trying to get you!” Harry prepared to swing while Samuel was casting a spell, and knocked Samuel off balance. Samuel fell to the dirt.
Samuel got up, while everyone backed up from the fight. “How is that my fault? I had no idea where I was or what was happening.”
“But nothing, you did this.” Harry yelled, he held his sword up to swing.
Instinctively Samuel raised his hands, and somebody yelled. Samuel opened his eyes to see a huge shield made of water. Samuel could hear what people were saying, how it was impossible, and how it was a total liquid. Right now it didn’t matter, because Harry was running right at the shield. Samuel pulled all of his strength together and thrust his energy at Harry, sending a wave of water at him.
Samuel got up from one knee, and looked at his hands. He could feel magic pulsing through his body, but it felt different then fire magic.
“How did you do that!” Harry yelled, he had been pushed back about 10 feet away from where he was originally standing. “Knight’s, think you're better than all of us because of your magic. I think we should make it fair, for somebody like you I mean.” The three of the friends that were following Harry before came to help him.
“Knight’s aren’t crazy powerful overlords, we’re just people.” Samuel said.
“Liar,” Harry gripped his sword, “Go!” With a swift movement Harry and his friends ran at Samuel.
Samuel dodged Harry, and went straight to his friends. Samuel summoned a fire sword, and swept the feet of one of them. Then he shot a fire bolt at another, and shot a star blast at the last one.
When Samuel had gone past them, Harry fell forward, the first student was on the ground, the second was rolling on the ground to stop the fire that had hit him, and the last looked like he was going to pass out.
Harry turned to him, Samuel looked back. “You don't have to do this.” Samuel warned.
Harry smiled, “Oh, but I do. Charge!”
Samuel just ran past all of them this time, and Samuel had gotten the whole motion of Harry's plan. They attacked, and whoever hit him hit him. This strategy was pretty sloppy, but the moment Samuel turned around. All of them rammed him into the floor, they held him to the ground. He couldn’t move.
“This is the end of the Knight!” Harry announced to the onlookers, “Goodbye to the history of the knight’s.”
Then Samuel spaced out, and realized something. His magic came from the elements, and he only had to tell them what to do. He closed his eyes, and listened to the ground. It was made of earth and stone, the original element. He grabbed at the energy he had in his body, and thrust it out into the earth.
“Any ‘words of wisdom,’ knight?” Harry said with a smile.
Samuel managed to pull one arm loose, “Just a few,” Samuel breathed heavily. “Knight’s magic is pretty powerful.” Samuel thrust all of the earth out at the group holding him down, launching them high in the air. They all landed on the grass, but one landed directly on his face. He looked like he was knocked out cold. Samuel got up, and realized what was happening. The magic was filling through him and he could feel it.
Samuel ran over to Jackson, “You ok?” Samuel asked,
“Ya,” Jackson said as he got up, “How did you do that?”
“Not now, we have to get to the study before these guys get up.” Samuel used his necklace to dash them to the library.
Once they had gotten to the library they met up with Mohan in the Study,
Samuel walked up to Mohan, “You said nothing good could come from that place, well nothing good is how we roll so I think we’ll be going in there.”
Mohan nodded, “As you wish.”
Samuel stared wide eyed, “Wait, that’s it?”
Mohan looked confused, “Of course, my only purpose is to let you gain your potential on your own.”
Samuel turned to Jackson, “Well then, no angry ghost to deal with then.”
Jackson ran to the beginnings of the bookshelves. Samuel only saw a few hundred shelves, but then it was in the shadows.
“So what are we looking for?” Jackson asked as they started walking into the library.
“Well I'm trying to find a way to increase my maximum mana so I'm able to cast more spells, but you could look for whatever you like.” Samuel said.
Jackson stopped and grabbed a book off one of the shelves, he blew on it to take all the dust off. “Ooo, it’s all about gods.”
Samuel looked curiously at the book, “Gods?”
Mohan appeared next to him, “Yes the gods of the multiverse, some of which allow magic to actually be welded.”
“Wow.” Jackson continued through the book.
Samuel continued through the library, seeing many books. Of which include things like, beasts, weapons, things like that, but all Samuel was looking for was knight’s magic.
“Hey Sam, look up there!” Jackson called from behind him,
Samuel looked back to see Jackson pointing at a large book that clearly read knight’s magic on the spine. Samuel ran to where Jackson was standing, it was a small gap in between the shelves Samuel could probably climb it.
“Sand back.” Samuel said he cast teleport to get close to the book, he made it and grabbed the book shelves with all of his might. He reached up and grabbed the book. He pulled it out very slowly, and when it was fully out he tucked it onto his chest. He looked down and teleported again onto the floor. “Wow, no more magic use today please.”
“What’s that?” Jackson was looking to the left where the sections of the shelves cross,
Samuel ran over to where he was and looked through the cross, there was a handle bar over an edge. He could hear something moving too.
“Do you hear that?” Samuel asked, Jackson nodded. Samuel silently ran to the handle bar, and waited for Jackson.
Jackson ran over to Samuel, “What do you see?”
Samuel looked over the edge to see what he was afraid of seeing his entire time in Marshlake, Controllers.
There were groups of them messing with equipment that looked ancient. Is this where they went to? What were they messing with? Samuel continued to look around to see something terrifying, they had found a spell. A spell of runes, the ones only he could activate. He couldn’t quite tell what the spell was, it had multiple runes that Samuel had never seen before and looked quite complex.
Samuel looked at Jackson who was looking at the runes as well, “What do they mean?” He asked
“I don't know.” Samuel said, but this proved it. Whatever the controllers wanted it had to do with him, and his magic.
