Me: You know Lee? The night I met you back in North Cybric, I thought it was simply just a meeting. But when you proposed to me recently, I knew what I wanted to do. I didn't want to live a life without you. I wanted to love you for eternity. I am happy to take you as my husband and to be a part of you. I love you, Lee Romano.
Everyone: Awww!
Lee Romano, for the first time, looked astonished. I gave him a smile, locking eyes with him as I waited for his turn to speak.
Rather, before he did, he closed the gap between us and kissed my forehead. The 'unexpected' table turning to me.
Lee: And I love you Liana. More than anything. I would burn the world for you. I am the blessed one - you chose me and I couldn't be any more happier.
The audience clapped hands twice as louder and he gave me a smirk of victory. I chuckled and let it slide.
Conductor: Lee Romano, do you take Liana Rodriguez as your newly wedded wife?
Lee: I do.
Conductor: And Liana Rodriguez, do you take Lee Romano as your newly wedded husband?
Me: I do.
We then put on our wedding rings, signed our marriage certificate and when it came to that part:
Conductor: You may kiss the bride.
I froze, eyes locked on Lee, anticipating a simple kiss on the forehead, or that kind of thing. But with Lee? No...
He's a Romano. And Romanos hate losing. So he did it. He leaned in, nothing but forced to follow. Everyone applauded for us and I was left shocked, slightly annoyed but surprisingly impressed. Lee Romano can be and do anything to get what he wants. Even get married and kiss someone he doesn't even love. Ironic.
Everyone, especially Lee's family, came congratulating us for the wedding. Though I could not tell how genuine their smiles are, I took them in and played along. I was silent the whole time, letting Lee do the talking. I then excused myself and headed back to the changing room where I left my phone, hoping to call Elena when I received a hug from behind.
From Elena.
Me: (shocked) El? Elena Rodriguez, what are you-
Elena: Hey. Couldn't leave without seeing my twin get married. Wow, you guys look like... made for each other?! I mean, he's rich and you are a princess...
Me: You mean a deserted princess. Count yourself there too.
Elena: Um, no. I am not going to let them live their lives like nothing happened. I am going to the North to pay them a visit.
Me: Liar.
Elena: And to give them a taste of their medicine.
Me: At what cost, El? Your life?
Elena: What do you mean? I got allies.
Me: Who? Enlighten me once more.
Elena: (folding her arms) Ace.
Me: Ace. Where did you find him?
Elena: I can't give all the details to you right now, but when the time is right.
Me: (shocked; puzzled) When the time is right? Elena, you are playing-
Elena: The most dangerous game, Mom and Dad wouldn't have liked it, blah blah blah. Liana. Trust me on this. And if it doesn't work, then I will feel great that I at least tried my best. Okay?
Me: (sighs) Fine. Just don't get into trouble. Call me if anything happens.
Elena: Jeez, don't treat me like I'm little. I am your twin. I share a part of your stubborn personality.
Me: But you are way more worse than me.
Elena: (smiles) I will miss you.
Me: I will miss you more. (Hugging her) Don't let them play mind games on you, okay? I know how manipulative they can be.
Elena: I know. (Hugging back) And don't let the Romano family walk all over you? Wealthy families like them tend to look down on their daughter in laws, especially when their own son can't even speak up for them...
Me: Tell me about it.
Giving her one last smile, I let Elena go, watching her as she waved goodbye at me and walked away, heading out of the venue and into her car. A little wave of sadness crept in. Elena is all I have left of family. I know she might have a little success but I don't want her to get hurt.
*Hug from behind*
Lee: You were gone for too long.
And what seems like might be my life - as long as we have to pretend rather - Lee hugged me from behind and whispered in my ear. I rolled my eyes as I chuckled, turning around and wrapping my hands around his neck.
Me: Didn't know that was a problem.
Leah Romano: Ah! Liana!
I turned to see Leah - Lee's aunt, come up to us. I let go of my hands around Lee's neck, and put on a smile on my face.
Lee: (whispering) Call her zia.
Me: Hi, zia!
Leah: (smiling) Aw, my Liana, you look gorgeous! You have a great taste in dresses!
Me: I wish, but all thanks to Linda. She chose this for me.
Leah: Ah Linda! Such a sweetheart once you know her. I must say, this family you are married to is extremely big, and comes with a lot of pressure.
Me: I know, and I am prepared for it.
Leah: (serious look) Really?
Me: (serious look) Once a top 3 archery player in high school, played chess in college and came out as top 5 and did horse riding for as long as I lived.
Leah: ...
Me: Unless, the Romano Games aren't the way to officially welcoming a new member into the family, zia?
Leah: (surprised; impressed) Indeed.
She then walked away, not bothering to take a second look until she spoke once more.
Leah: Hope we get a great-nephew soon.
Lee: Nana, no.
I turned to Lee, who had a serious deadpan look on his face, glaring at his zia.
Lee: I thought we spoke about pressure.
Leah: (looking back, smiling) Forgive me Lee. I was simply teasing-
Lee: That was not appreciated.
She nodded, and walked away, leaving me shocked in my thoughts, blank on the outside.
Me: Lee-
Lee: That was completely unacceptable; they can't walk all over on you. (Looking at me) Liana, you may be a title to them, but to me, you are my wife.
Me: ...
Lee: And a Romano, at that.
