“C’mon guys.” Said Marie as she led us to the basement. As we go down we see this massive sort of metal bulb above the ground.
“Aren’t bunkers supposed to be underground?” Asked Austin.
“It is underground, you’ll see.” Marie went over and knocked on the bunker a special way.
Suddenly the door opens and we’re greeted by a young boy around our age.
“You guys this is Marco, we went to school together in Washington when I did that year in another state. He recently moved here.” Said Marie.
“Hey I’m Marco Martinez.” He went in and shook both me and Austin’s hands.
“I’m Ruby, Ruby-May”
“I’m Austin Winslow”
“Yeah and I’m Marie Alden!” Said Marie awkwardly. She let out an awkward chuckle before I interrupted.
“Do you now about the zombies or are you just hanging out in there?”
“I saw them on my way back from the store, my parents weren’t home when I tried to warn them. It didn’t take me long to realize my parents were chasing me.” Said Marco with a sad look on his face.
“I guess all of us have experienced that so far.” I said.
“Can we come in?” Asked Marie.
“Oh yeah go ahead, don’t mind my little brother he’s just adjusting to this a bit.” Marco moved aside to let us in. Marco seemed to have flawless almond colored skin. His eyes were a beautiful shade of green and his face covered in freckles. Marco’s hair had these soft chestnut colored curls. I can admit he is handsome.
As we went inside the bunker we saw his brother. He looked exactly like Marco, he was just younger.
“This is my little brother Mateo”, Mateo turned his head and gave us a wave before turning back to watch tv.
“Does the cable work here?” Asked Austin.
“Apparently it does.” Said Marco.
“Sick! I’ll be over here if you need me Ruby-May and Marie.” With that being said Austin went over and sat next to Mateo.
“Let me join!” Said Marie as she went over to them.
“Why do they call you Ruby-May? Isn’t May your last name?” Asked Marco.
“Some kid heard my mom call me it in the park so they told everyone to call me that.” I said.
“A beautiful name for a beautiful girl. Your parents have great taste Ruby-May, you’re named after a gem.” Marco turned to look and me and gave me a wink.
“Have you guys tried to talk to anyone outside of here?” I ask Marco changing the subject.
“No not yet, we were waiting for Marie but she seems distracted.” Said Marco as he looks over to Marie, Austin, and Mateo watching tv on the couch.
“Can’t we just use our phones, if the tv works our phones should too.” I say.
“I left my phone outside and that dork doesn’t have one.” He says slightly disappointed.
“I should have mine in my pocket.” I feel around in my pockets but I can’t find it. “It must’ve fallen out while I was running.” I say, a hint of panic in my voice. “Hey Austin, Marie!” They turn around. “Do you guys have your phones?” They check their pockets and shake their heads. “Marco, do you have another form of communication?” I ask desperate for an answer.
“We have a radio communication system. My dad was the one that knew how to use it but he isn’t here right now.” After Marco said that he looked down sad.
“I know how to use it. I was really interested in these when I was younger. They’re relatively simple to use if they aren’t damaged.” I say in hopes to cheer Marco up.
“We’ve never used it so I highly doubt it’s damaged.” Said Marco.
“Okay then!” I say as I turn it on.
