When they return to the building with the freyjas, Muffin and Biscuit are in harnesses. They are not hooked up to the carriage yet, as the worker wants to be able to have them rest and roam as they like. But both of them chose to nap in the shade of the carriage.
Once the two freyjas see Lexi, they get up and run to her. They almost sent her flying to the ground with how fast they went towards her, she had to brace herself for their weight and impact. They are both meowing for her attention. She pets their heads as they rub against her.
Amor is surprised that they have freyjas to pull the carriage. He knows Mantas isn't the richest person due to knowing how much he offers to do services for his family in place of getting bottles and other items. He wonders if the king has brought them for the trip. He doesn't know what the king is like due to being the common folk.
“Amor you be the coachman. Lexi and I will be in the carriage.” Mantas tells him. “Driving a carriage pulled by freyjas is very different. They will go much faster than horses. They will stop during travel to rest or have meals. But they will slow down so the carriage won't go into them.” He explains to Amor.
He nods. “Got it.” He pets Biscuit. Biscuit and him connect instantly due to both being friendly airheads. Biscuit stands on his back paws and places his front paws on Amor's chest. He is as tall as Amor at six feet. He rubs his face against Amor's. Amor laughs and does the same.
“Come on. We have to go.” Mantas doesn’t want to watch them pet the two big cats. He goes to enter the carriage.
Lexi and Amor take that as a clue to stop. Lexi wants to pet Muffin more. She knows Mantas might drag her off. They go to the carriage. Amor gets in the coachman's seat and Lexi joins Mantas in the carriage.
The carriage is a brown wooden box-like carriage. The coachman's seat is seated at the same level as the rest of the seats, compared to it normally being high up. With a panel glass in front of the seat so the coachman won't get hit in the face by bugs. From Lexi's perspective, it looks more like a car than a carriage due to how it looks. There is even a space behind the passenger seats for storage or to sleep if they need to do that.
Amor has the freyjas start heading out. They are walking at a normal pace on the road out of the main kingdom's city, they could run someone over if going at a faster speed.
Lexi is glad for a long chance of getting off her feet. She wants to take off her shoes and rub her feet. But it would be weird to do so with Mantas sitting next to her. She will sit back and relax.
“Is the threat of the Dragon King real?” She asks him. She wants to know if it's a real thing, or if it's that trope of humans vs what they think to be evil creatures.
“Yes.” He nods. “He had wiped out a few armies and a few villages. He is slowly gaining more land for his demon kingdom.” He saw what the Dragon King had done in person. If he didn't have the shield spell up in time, he would have been dead or badly injured like the other mages that were around him. He had never seen magic that powerful before or after. It was just pure strength.
“Do you know why it all started? The war on him?” She is trying to figure out the history of this world. This way it seems like she didn't pop out of nowhere when talking to locals.
“Yes. The dragon's grandfather had kidnapped the saintess of the humans. Not much had been known about what happened to her. The lands were destroyed and many kingdoms were wiped out after she was. The war against the demon kingdom had been going on since then.” The human side of the war isn't doing that great. The king wanted Mantas to use the summoning spell to defeat the Dragon King or wound him. To steal the land and riches for himself after the Dragon King's defeat.
“Saintess?” She thinks about that. She knows many isekai heroines are called saintesses. She wonders if that saintess had been in the same place as Rose and her. Being isekai from the same world, from the modern time or the past of her world
They finally leave the main kingdom's city, and the freyjas speed up. Running at a car-like speed. car would. The two men hold on as their lives depend on it. Lexi is fine. She is used to going at speeds like that. The ride is bumpy though due to being on a dirt wood with wooden wheels. That she has to get used to.
“What had caused you to want to get out so fast?” She is acting like the speed of the carriage is normal.
Mantas on the other hand. Is holding onto the handrails next to his seat for dear life. He isn't used to riding in something that goes this fast. “We can talk once they stop running.” He doesn't want to talk when they are going at this speed. He is afraid of biting his tongue.
Lexi sighs and looks out the window to watch the sky and trees go by. At least she can entertain herself by doing that.
The freyjas stop running a while later. They slow down until the carriage won't hit them from behind. The sun will be setting soon.
Mantas has his head down on his lap. Looking pale as a ghost and drain. He almost got sick a few times during the ride. The last thing he wants to do is to get sick when in the carriage. He thinks it will be a pain to clean up. He gets out and tries to stand on shaking legs.
Lexi helps him out with that. She will see about getting motion sickness medication for him. If she could buy it for him. “Once we are set up. I can use my skill to get you some meds for motion sickness.”
Mantas sit on the ground, trying to feel better. “Yeah.” He nods. He can't think clearly due to trying not to get sick and trying to return to normal. His head is spinning and aching.
Amor gets out of his seat, having no issues when riding in the carriage. He got used to the speed and bumps in the road. He unclips the freyjas to let them be able to walk around freely. They go to Lexi for food, meowing and demanding to be fed. Amor follows, to check on the two.
“Amor, could you make sure Mantas is fine when I get our food and stuff.” She isn't sure how much to trust Amor in showing him her online shopping skill. She will ask Mantas about that later.
Amor agrees and tries to make Mantas feel better. He grabs a green leaf of a plant from his knapsack and has Mantas chew it. Some color returns to his face as he chews.
Lexi gets in the carriage and goes to the back of it. The freyjas follow her in. She and Mantas need to fill it out to look less suspicious to others who might try to get a peak in. As it looks so empty will throw anyone off and think they are up to something no good.
She goes to order some raw chicken breasts for the freyjas. For the humans, Small whole loaves of bread and cans of soup with a pull tab. She gets a pot and some kitchen stuff to cook and prepare food with. She gets the medicine for Mantas with the food. Due to how much she gets, everything comes in a cardboard box as she pays.
She feeds the freyjas two chicken breasts each before going out of the carriage. She goes to the two men. “Amor, could you get firewood and make a fire? I can handle dinner for us. I had given Muffin and Biscuit their food already.”
“Sure!” He grabs his battle hammer and goes off. If trouble finds him, he can defend himself with his battle hammer with no issues. That is one of the reasons why Mantas had picked him.
Lexi checks on Mantas before getting their dinner ready. She pours the cans of soup into the pot and hides all the evidence in her dimension storage. She will tell Amor that the soup was already made in her dimension storage if he asks about it.
Once Amor comes back with the firewood, he starts making a campfire away from anything that might catch on fire. He uses two rocks from his knapsack to make a spark of fire.
Once the fire is started, Amor helps out Lexi with the pot of soup and helps with cooking it. He used to help his mother with cooking for his father and six brothers for meals. He enjoys cooking for others. He is good at it too.
Once the soup is almost done, Mantas and the freyjas come to check out the smell. It smells great to them. It smells better than most foods do. Amor has some wooden bowls and spoons to be used. When he knows the soup is done cooking. He scoops out a serving of it for each of the humans. He almost gives some to the freyjas but Lexi stops him. Telling him that some of the ingredients might not be good for them to eat, given her knowledge of what shouldn't be given to cats.
She does give the freyjas bowls of cat treats. Which they eat like it's the best thing ever. They will beg her for more or more food from the other two. Like normal cats, they will act like they are staving.
The two men start eating. The first spoonful of the soup had caused the two to think the soup is the best thing to be eaten. Mantas ate it slowly, like it was his last meal. While Amor eats it like someone will take it from him.
They both take a bite of the bread next. They are stunned by how soft and fluffy it is. There is a sweetness to the bread too.
“How is bread like this?” Mantas asks out loud. He didn't know bread could be like this. Most breads are often hard or slightly off taste. But this bread is perfect. Like the ones he tried and had taken from the royal kitchen.
“Where did you get this bread?!” Amor asks. He wants more of this bread. He wants to stuff his face with it until he can't eat anymore.
“Trade secret,” Lexi says. That is all she will say.
Amor pouts at hearing that. “You can't even give me a hint? This bread is so good.” He gives her a kicked-puppy look.
Lexi is taken aback by a grown man that is taller than her and could fight a bear, giving her the cutest look. She has to stand her ground against his cute look. “No!” She looks at her food when not trying to look at the even more hurt look.
“Get used to that. His family treats him like a kid sometimes. He is the youngest of six brothers.” Mantas had seen that look so many times that he had lost count, whether be towards himself or to others. At times, when Amor is just upset at something that is out of anyone's control. Many others had caved in. Amor's mother had fallen for it so many times.
“Six brothers!” Lexi is surprised at the number of brothers in a single house. She thinks they live in the same house as the brothers work as blacksmiths too.
“Yes. I would have more if some didn't die during childhood or as an infant.” Amor says it's a normal thing that happens.
Lexi knows in the past having many children was normal. Due to how often children will die due to disease or some other thing. But she wouldn't think it would be that much. This had gotten her gloomy about that.
“After eating. Amor can set up camp and gather more firewood. I need to talk to Lexi about things.” Mantas wants to talk about how much Amor should know about her skill and her being a summoned human. He needs to tell her why he has been rushing to get out.
“You two have tents?” Amor asks.
Lexi and Mantas replied at the same time, but with different answers. Mantas says yes, but Lexi says no. Mantas looks at Lexi with a panicked look. He thought Lexi could buy anything she wanted. “No?! I thought you could cover it all!”
“Only food and food-related stuff. I can't do things like camping.” She tells him.
He groans. “I guess we can sleep in the back of the carriage. It will be packed back there.” They will be covered and warm, but it will be cramped with three adults and two freyjas there. Amor will take up the most amount of space due to him being the tallest and being a brick wall of a man.
“I guess I will just get firewood after eating.” Amor is fine with getting the firewood. It might be hard to find some in the morning due to the wood being wet from morning dew.
“I can cast a light spell so you won't get lost on the way back.” Mantas finds that to be an easy spell to cast. It's a useful one to use even with how simple it's to use.
He agreed as they finished eating. They all ate what was in the pot and all the bread. The two men ate more than Lexi due to how good it tasted to them. Lexi thinks it's normal food from her world.
