Addai stared at Belial.
Belial stared at Addai.
Neither of them even blinked until Soleil clapped his hands and a wide smile spread across his face.
“Okay! That settles our quick meeting! Have a great morning you all!” He beamed again and pulled Abannak’s sleeves very discreetly. The dragon approached the Director to listen to what he was whispering so eagerly. “Abannak, we need to search Mr. Ajal’s locker to find any illegal items… again.”
Abannak only sighed. Of course, it was about Ajal’s secret items. The dragon looked at Ajal talking to Blanche – well, yapping in Foxian – and he swore he’d curse him for a week.
“Ajal,” Abannak called and the Foxian looked at him, his long ears upright. “Let’s go,” he said impatiently.
Ajal’s ears twitched and he beamed. “Of course, bro!” he smiled then turned to Blanche. “If you need anything, just call me sis,” he patted Blanche’s head.
Blanche chuckled and nodded, watching her brother dash behind Abannak. She was sure the dragon would curse her poor brother, but that was for the better good. He needed to learn a thing or two from time to time.
Meanwhile, Belial and Addai resumed their stare contest. Belial couldn’t tell what was crossing the man’s mind, nor why he was staring at her that judgingly- Well, she knew why. She was a High-class demon in the human world, and, by chance, she was a demon who knew about his other identity. To make things worse, in their last encounter she casually landed a fierce fist on Mine’s face, broke his nose and even cursed him.
It seemed that Mine had forgiven her by how he smiled so easily while talking to Soleil, but Addai…
… she knew that man didn’t. Oh, hell he didn’t.
Belial softly pulled Blanche’s sleeves, not bearing the stare contest anymore. “Blanche… do you >really< think it was a good idea for me to enroll in this place?” She whispered, feeling her throat burn from the tension.
Blanche smiled and nodded. “Of course, now let’s head to your quarters,” she took Belial’s hand and waved goodbye to everyone in the room.
Belial hesitantly followed her while breaking the stare contest. At that time, she started praying for her Lord to protect her even though she knew he would be laughing on his throne, watching her from his comfortable castle while she awkwardly walked through the university corridors.
Mine went off to the Central Library looking for some books about Exorcism and Raw Essences, so Addai had a long time alone until his friend came back from his search. His classes were in an hour too, so he had some spare time…
… that he’d use to look for someone.
When he took the first step further, Mine’s voice swarmed his mind, 'Don’t you dare lay a hand in Belial.'
Addai huffed. He wouldn’t lay a hand in Belial. Of course, not. He’d only casually ask her reasons to stay in the human world and ask why in hell she ended up in University. Also, he would ask her business, because when a High-class demon wandered into the human world it meant problems (a hundred percent true).
He’d be gentle and respectfully press her against the wall while grabbing her neck with a shadow. He wouldn’t lay a hand on her.
In his mind, he was at ease. He was fulfilling Mine’s recommendations after all.
Now, he was tracking the demon with his shadows’ aid. They crawled the corridors, walls, floors, and other people’s shadows so effortlessly no one noticed.
The teacher nodded to everyone he found, politely greeting them as he used to do every day. Some students even stopped him for a quick chat, asking how he was doing after the unexpected release. Other students complimented his hair and some more asked where his cat was so they could cuddle her dark fur.
At some point in his walk, one shadow returned and curled inside him as if whispering something directly to his brain. When it happened, his eyes glowed faintly, and he touched the nearest wall with the palm of his hand.
With no one witnessing, Addai merged with the wall and disappeared.
Right in front of an empty classroom, Belial stood there as if her feet got stuck on the floor. She had never taught humans, only brute demons back in hell. She knew humans were more fragile and some students weren’t even human, which would make her work even more difficult.
She needed to plan a strategy like he always did in hell with her tenants. Well, if she wanted to stay in the human world for a little longer, she had to work hard.
You can do it, Belial. She encouraged herself.
Belial then took a step forward, but her feet instantly glued to the floor mid-step. Something was off, and it wasn’t her anxiety.
Before she could turn her head, a hand grabbed her face and slammed her against the nearest wall. Suffocating, she grasped for air while the wall’s debris fell on the floor, but it seemed that her efforts were fruitless because the same hand grabbed her again and pulled her from the wall – actually, she was grateful that her face was free from the stone, but at what cost…
When her eyes finally resumed working, her vision focused on the aggressor. The man standing in front of her had a pair of intense crimson eyes locked on her, and its thin pupils sent chills down her spine. The man’s hair gave him the look of a guard dog, but now he seemed to be more like a mad dog. Despite all these looks, Belial recognized him the moment she felt the man’s oppressive aura turning denser.
“Y-Your Grace!” Belial gasped.
Addai glared at her even more intensely, but he laid no hands on her: they were shadows. “What is your business here in the human world, huh?” He pressed, still not letting go of the demon.
Belial went mute and averted her gaze.
Addai pressed again. “Say it before I exorcise you.”
Belial averted her gaze again and her cheeks…
… Wait- was she actually blushing?
Addai looked at her, confused and the shadowy hand slightly loosened. Belial was still not looking at Addai’s face, and her cheeks turned redder and redder.
Before Addai could repeat the question, Belial exploded in a hurried speech. “I CAME TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH BLANCHE!!! THAT’S ALL!!”
Addai blinked.
Belial panted, her cheeks blazing hot.
The shadowy hand disappeared.
“Eh?” Addai voiced.
“Eh?” Belial mirrored.
