Some houses was left in wrecked. However, we managed to find an empty building among the blocks of terrace house. Thankfully, the water sources had not been cut off. I mean, I could just go into my space, but, Taylor, he really need a bath, and I can’t just arbitrarily brought him into my space. Won’t he became suspicious of me if I trust him unconditionally when we just met, and after how I act? Yep, definitely no. I won’t trust me either.
Flop. Flop? Turning around, I saw a shocking scene. Quickly I covered my eyes and shifted my body toward another direction. “Why would you take off your clothes?!”
“Do you expect me to take a bath with my clothes on?” he said, nonchalantly.
“No. Why would you take off your clothes in the living room? Go into one of the room!” I almost shouted, as I pointed toward a door.
“What’s the big deal? Never saw a naked man before?” he snorted, walked directly into the bathroom.
Sighing, I slumped my butt onto the couch and leaned on the headrest. Never saw a naked man? Heh. I saw one. Only one. My husband from previous world. My first family.
Hold on a second. Now that I ruminated about it, don’t you think that muscle was a cheat? Did he work out a lot? Or was it real life experience? He was tall, according to data, around 190 cm. Maybe because of that, he seem more intimidating with those muscle. By no mean was he thin. Wait, wait, wait! What am I even thinking? Stop thinking!
“Don’t wanna take a bath?” he asked, stepping out with only a piece of towel by his waist.
“Y—you! You! You! Wear some clothes!” I cried out, throwing the blue cushion that hit his face.
“You want me to wear those bloody mess?”
I glimpsed over the pile of clothes by the floor. True. He can’t keep wearing those anymore. Not hygienic. “Wash it then.”
“Ha ha ha. You want me to wash it? By myself?”
“I saw a washing machine there. Go on.”
“What to do… Never done it before.”
Furrowing my eyebrows, my eyes narrowed. Can’t believed I would met someone who can’t do their own laundry. Such a typical spoiled rich kid. I clicked my tongue, said, “then you can started learning. No one will do it for you during this pandemic. It’s part of survival skill!”
“Hm~”
It’s hard to guess what’s on his mind when he just keep staring at me with an expressionless eyes. Giving me the chill. I hugged myself in defense as he step closer. Warning siren beeping in my mind, telling me to keep my guard up. Clutching his hands on the headrest, he bowed his head, looking down as I tilted my head to look up. Droplet of water trickled down from his wet hair, plopped on my face.
“Guess I’ll be keeping you for a long~ time. It’s you duty to teach me how to survive from now on,” he whispered, with a devilish grin on his face.
Creep! I really wanted to quit already. Thus began my journey in this world by his side. Against my will. Do I have to take care of him? That was what I thought at first. How. E. Ver. Well… Contrary to expectation, he was the one who took care of me. Quite conscientiously at that.
In the span of one week, he took care of my meal even if he doesn’t need to. He does my laundry, and unexpectedly good at it. What happen to the image of the typical spoiled rich kid from before? He lulled me to sleep even though he doesn’t need to. Maybe he noticed I couldn’t sleep well and when I does, I keep waking up from nightmare. Most importantly, he kept me safe. I don’t even have to lift a finger when the zombies around.
Once, I asked him to show me how he used his ability and in exchange, I brought him into the space. Since then, unless I brought it up first, he would never demand to come into my space. The fact he recognized the space as my safe haven and didn’t intruded into it made me felt more secured than before. Surprising, wasn’t it? Despite his twisted persona, he never step beyond the boundary.
We moved around and avoid staying in one place for too long. Searching for traces of another human being. “Someone’s here. More than one,” he suddenly uttered, pulling me behind him. His shoulders tensed.
[Host! It was another key person, Michelle, John and their group.]
Tugging the back of his jacket, I peek at the group of people slowly coming into view. Including Michelle and John, there was one elderly man, one middle age man, three young lady, four young men, and a boy. Almost all except one, had important role in building the new era for humankind.
“Excuse me,” a man who seem to be the leader step forward, said, “we bore no malice intention. We’re on our way to the evacuation center in the city central. There was no enough food supplies for our group. So would you be kind enough to let us into this supermarket? If you wished to join us, you are more than welcome too.”
“Eve,” Taylor called out my name, staring into my eyes. “What’s your say?”
I knew Taylor had been listening and following my comment and suggestion lately, but didn’t knew he would gave me the power to decide. He must still remembered that time when I said I was looking for people too.
“It’s not like the two of us could eat everything from here. Sharing is caring.”
“Then… you wanna join them?”
“I don’t know. At least they don’t look like bad people. Maybe we should give it a try.”
He beckoned them to get inside. I’m not sure what they were talking about, but they didn’t hide their curious gaze at all, as we followed behind.
This was the biggest supermarket in the area with lots variety of dried and canned food that could be stored for long time. Many people would be desperate to come here. Should I breed domesticated animals in my space? But then… who would do the slaughtering? Oh! He could.
“Hi.”
That scared me. Noticing Taylor was obstructed by the man from earlier, I replied the greeting, “hi.”
“Michelle. Michelle Dicen,” she said, offering a handshake, which I accepted.
“Evelyn Nelson.”
“Your boyfriend?” Hinted toward Taylor.
“No. Met some time ago and we’ve been wandering around together.”
“Was not what I anticipated. The other, I mean those from the group, including me, thought you guys were definitely lover or maybe even married.”
That guy… must have been asked the same thing. He had been glancing over here with suspicious smirk on his face.
