A MECHANICAL MOTH FLOATS NEAR A BANK WHERE A ROBBERY WAS OCCURRING.
It was recording everything it sees and hears. But the eye was also careful to be in the line of sight of the two death dealers who are now facing each other inside a bank.
Clay throws the gun he held as if it was trash.
“So… what’s up?” Clay asked casually but his gaze speaks otherwise. He was worried about Cassian and Johann can see it despite not being in control of his body as of the moment.
Do you know each other? Johann could not help but ask.
More like we work together, Cassian replied.
He’s also a death dealer?!
Did I not just state the obvious? Cassian said while rolling his eyes on Johann.
Is he going to kill me? Because of the spell I did? Johann asked in a curious tone. He was already thinking ahead about what he could do to prevent himself from being hurt.
He did figure that one out. But… I knew he wouldn't kill you since you’re an innocent one. However… since you started shaking in fear it can’t be helped that I’ll take it from here.
Both of them were startled when Clay suddenly ran and jumped towards Cassian. His eyes were wide open. Clay held both his cheeks and stared into his eyes as if he was mad. His legs were also wrapped around Cassian.
“You two are talking in there, aren’t you?” Clay said like a maniac.
“Get off me!” Cassian said while pushing Clay away from him. Clay backed down but still stared at how Cassian was fixing himself as if he was a dust that stuck to his fake body.
“Are you going to spill or what?” Clay asked.
“Spill what, you brat?”
“Why are you using that lame body?”
“First of all, I agree it was a lame body I’m in.”
Hey! Johann was offended but could do nothing.
“Second of all, what made you think I’ll explain to you?” Cassian added while ignoring the other brat within him.
Clay put both his hands behind his head as if he was pondering on something.
“Might as well explain to me than to Kyros or Sloan, right? Besides… Don’t you think others will not notice you are gone for almost a week now?”
I didn’t know someone would look for you, Johann commented but Cassian ignored him again.
Unlike you, I have some comrades to look after.
Johann froze. His observation was right on point. And Cassian noticed his reaction.
You’re right. I don’t have friends to begin with, Johann admitted while thinking people will be much safer with them not being associated with him especially now that Cassian is with him.
“So… Spill… Why are you being held as a prisoner?” Cassian asked again.
“I’m on vacation,” Cassian simply replied.
“You can’t be on vacation! We told you that!” Clay said as if his answers were unexpected.
“How many kills have you done so far?”
“More than the usual,” Clay responded while shrugging.
“And you didn’t miss a target?”
Clay was shocked. He realized he never did miss a target. Lock was only assisting him to confirm the location of the criminals they set their eyes on. But lately, Lock is making sure everyone is dead before they leave the scene. Just like what happened in the abandoned warehouse.
“You did not find it odd that you’re becoming too complacent with our job? Isn’t that why you always have Lock by your side?”
“H-how did you know that?!”
Cassian sighed. “Because the more we kill, the more we think we should feel fulfilled. But that’s not how it works.”
Cassian sighed while massaging the side of his head. Perhaps it really sounded unexpected for him to be tired.
“Clay, I know you won’t believe me when I say I’m tired. But I am tired. So, leave me in peace and let me rest for a while.”
“That depends.”
“Depends on what?”
“If I see how weak you are now then I’ll let you rest… in peace.”
It was what they heard Clay said before various guns started appearing in the air. It surrounded Cassian and when Clay pointed a finger at him he was like a child smiling while pretending his hand is a gun.
“Bang!” Clay said as he moved his point finger upwards.
All guns were fired at Cassian. But Cassian’s power surrounded and protected the body he was in. His lightning was sparkling as it caught each bullet that the eight guns surrounding him just fired. It was burned and was turned into ashes as it fell on the floor.
“Still fast like lightning,” Clay said amused. But his smile faded when he saw how disappointed Cassian was.
“Was that fast for you? I would not let you have the opportunity to point your guns at me if I were in the mood to kill anyone.”
“You’re right,” Clay said as he recalled how Cassian and Sloan fought during their yearly meeting. “The Cassian we know would cease his attackers before they can even lift a finger. That was how fast you are.”
Sirens were heard outside the bank. It sounded far but they all knew it would lead to them in just a matter of minutes.
“Well, time to go!” Clay said happily before he walked towards the door and disappeared.
Wait. Will he leave us in this mess? Johann said while panicking.
Who said we’ll wait for the police to arrive? Cassian replied while walking away from the crime scene.
But the people in here—
Are mostly dead except for the guard. But he’ll be fine.
Clay said they were all criminals. How did he know that?
Clay is a sharpshooter who kills anyone involved in a crime. All of his kills come from homicide and death sentences.
But he just shot you in the face! Oh—wait. He misses.
Johann... if a death dealer aimed at something we make sure we won't miss. So be careful. You could be my next target.
Wha—what do you mean? So he did actually try to kill you even if I am innocent?
Yes. So be grateful. I save you. Again.
Why would your coworker try to kill you?! I thought he was your friend who was worried about you!
Johann could not calm down until he knew all the answers. He knew Cassian would not easily give it to him so he just gave up.
I guess death dealers are just killers then, he murmured to himself.
I’m trying to prevent that.
Eh?
He heard Cassian but he was stunned to hear how sincere and tired he felt. He does not look haggard or anything but he felt it in his voice. Cassian kept walking on the road. Johann could see where they were going. They are heading to the parking lot where Luz was waiting. He expected to see her in the car but standing outside the vehicle was his mother.
“Where have you been?!”
Well, it’s your turn now, Cassian said before fading from his consciousness. The next thing Johann saw was his mother walking towards him. And she was not happy with what she was seeing.
“What happened to your face?!”
Johann touched the dried blood on his cheek. He knew it was pointless to lie. But how much truth he could say he was not sure yet. “Uh… there was a robbery...”
“A robbery?!” his mom yelled before massaging the center of her nose. She was having headaches lately and Johann was not helping one iota.
“Johann Donovan, you better explain that well or else you will be grounded for the rest of your life.”
Johann can only smile awkwardly for he knew his mother was not only threatening him. It was his last warning.
