"You should," Nobushiro replied. "We're not gonna be here forever."

Yoshida came downstairs, and along came May. "I smell sausage," May pointed out. 

"Want some breakfast, May?" Lucy, Yoshida's mom, asked.

"Yes, ma'am. Got any sugar for the oatmeal?" She sat down and waited for her plate and bowl. 

"Yoshida, can you be a dear and make some orange juice? Or whatever juice we-?" Lucy asked.

"We have passionfruit juice," he replied. "It's already in a jug." He sat it in the middle of the table. 

"I'm gonna teach you how to cook one day, Yoshida," Lucy stated. "We're not gonna be here forever."

"Yes, ma'am. I was wondering when you were gonna teach me..." He put the sugar in the middle of the table. "I just never said anything. We could do that when I get home."

"You and I will be doing meat pies," his mom said. "I'll pick up the stuff whilst you spend time with your brother."

Kwesi asked, "What's a kurombo? Some kid called me that at school one day, and I laughed it off."

"It's a slur for black people, kinda like nigger, porch monkey, coon, Uncle Tom, tar baby..." Yoshida pointed out. "I think this kid is bullying you. You should tell somebody."

"Or punch his lights out," Nobushino chimed in, walking to the table. "That works as well."

Lucy decided to put her two cents in the convo. "Honey, if he hits any of those Japanese kids, he'll be in trouble. Some of those teachers are racially biased towards black people. Racism in Japan is a problem; I'll have to bring it up in the next PTA meeting." She passed the plates out.  

May picked up one of her sausages and ate it. "RIP Kwesi. I think you're fine the way you are, cutie; those kids are just jealous."

Yoshida put sugar in his oats. "This tastes good. Oatmeal's complicated. How do you make it?"

"I used oats and hot milk. You can use water as well," Lucy replied. "I might buy some kasha next time I go to that international store."

"International store?" her first-born asked. 

"That store sells foods from all over the world: Mexican tortillas, Italian cheese, kasha, bratwurst..." Lucy poured some juice in Kwesi's cup.

Kwesi asked, "So, can we go to that store, big bro?"

"I might take you. I have nothing else going on." Yoshida ate the last of his breakfast quickly. "Want me to do the dishes?"

"No, no. I'll do 'em," Lucy replied. "You can do dishes later."

"Yes, ma'am." He got up to go put his clothes on. Five minutes later, he came out in a Blastoise tracksuit his mom bought him. "I'm ready to go. Kwesi's putting on that Arcanine tracksuit you bought him. Lemme get my money real quick."

May got up. "Thanks for everything, Mr. and Mrs. Akamura. I'll see you around."

"Anytime," Lucy said back. 

"I'm walking her to her parents' house. Come on, Kwesi."

"Coming!" the eccentric sibling replied, running down the stairs.
