Marriage Survival 101

Mission: Stop The Press

Mission: Stop The Press

Jun 08, 2025

Saturday mornings were sacred to Yui.

They meant silence. Sleep. And a break from pretending her life wasn’t a total disaster.

So naturally, fate decided to ruin everything at 8:03 a.m.

She padded out of her room in slippers and a messy bun, rubbing sleep from her eyes.

Yuki was already at the kitchen table, hair still wet from the shower, flipping through his phone like it hadn’t even occurred to him that normal people didn’t look that good first thing in the morning.

"Morning!" he said without looking up.

"Good morning." Yui replied calmly without much of a thought still half asleep.

They sat in tense, shared silence. It was almost... peaceful.

"Come to think of it....it's our first holiday as a married couple!? Wait- am I being to concious about it? He looks totally un bothered? But why do I care in the first place anyways!?" Yui fought with her thoughts in her head.

Yuki’s phone buzzed.

He frowned, read the message, and then muttered, “Oh, hell.”

Yui looked up. “What now?”

Yuki turned the phone toward her.

A message from his father, short and casual, like he was commenting on the weather.

“The press release will go out today. Your engagement photos will be public by noon. Smile nicely next time.”

Drinking water, she froze mid-sip.

Then promptly spat water all over the table.

“WHAT?!”

Yuki jumped back. “Could’ve just said ‘wow,’ Yukimura.”

"They said it would be a secret!” she hissed, snatching the phone. “They promised no one at school would know!”

“That’s what I was told as well.” he said, dragging a hand through his hair. “Apparently, our fathers had other ideas it seems.”

“Oh no no no no no—” Yui was pacing now, muttering in panic. “Do you realize what will happen when those pictures drop?! We’ll be trending. And not in a good way. Tenjou Academy will explode. My life will be over. It will finally be completely ruined!!!”

Yuki calmly bit into a piece of toast. “You’re being dramatic.”

“I'm being realistic!” she snapped. “We have to stop this. We have, like, four hours. Max.”

He raised an eyebrow. “And what exactly do you suggest we do, Yukimura? Hack into my dad’s PR team?”

She paused.
Then grinned slowly.

“Oh my god.”

Yuki blinked. “That wasn’t a suggestion.”

------

At 9:12 a.m., they were on the express train to the heart of tokyo in oversized sunglasses, baseball caps, and the kind of awkward energy usually reserved for runaways and bad spy films.

By 10:12 am they reached Sanada Group’s PR office that was located on the 24th floor of a glass skyscraper that screamed money. Thankfully, Yuki’s surname—and face—could get them past security.

“Smile, darling,” he whispered as they entered the elevator. “We’re just a power couple checking in on our own engagement buzz.”

“Say ‘darling’ again and I’ll file for divorce.” Replied Yui coldly.

The receptionist smiled politely as Yuki flashed his family name and explained they were here to preview their “engagement announcement materials.”

“Oh, of course! Right this way. Mr. Sanada's assistant just stepped out, but you can use his office.”

"I guess luck is on our side!" Yuki whispered to Yui.

Once inside, Yui moved fast.

“Yuki— I will stall anyone who knocks. You find the server.”

“You’re terrifying when you’re like this.”

“Enough with the chit-chat! Hurry up! Before we get busted!.” Yui gritted her teeth.

He found the files almost too easily.

Folder labeled “Sanada-Yukimura Engagement Press Pack”

Subfolder: “Photos”, “Draft Headlines”, “Prepared Statements”

He scanned through them—dozens of high-resolution photos of her in a pale pink kimono, standing awkwardly beside him.

He hesitated for just a second.
Then hit DELETE.
All folders.
All backups.

Just to be safe, he cleared the trash, closed the drive, and removed the auto-upload feature to the cloud.

Gone. Forever.

Back in the elevator,

"You really did delete everything? Right?" Yui leaned in and stared at him with narrowed eyes.

"What? You don't trust me?"

Yui averted her eyes her expressions showing how little she trusted him.

"You looked away just now didn't you!? You don't trust me!?"

On the train back home, Yui rested her head against the window letting out a sigh of relief.

Yuki sat beside her, quiet for once.

“You know,” he said, “we just broke several federal laws.”

“I know.” Yui replied looking outside the window.

“And I think we make a dangerous team.”

"Maybe?" She replied in a non serious tone. Eventhough her heart was beating rapidly after all what they did, she never felt such thrill in her entire life. She somewhat enjoyed this little adventure with her "arch nemesis".
