A Random Game of Rock, Paper, and Scissors

A Random Game of Rock, Paper, and Scissors

Jun 14, 2025

Ryo sat inside Xianye's office for some more time before going back to his room.

There, he freshened himself and headed upstairs to the second floor, entering the library.

To his surprise, the library was already open and Haori wasn't there either.

'Maybe that call had something to do with both of them...? Maybe it was Xianye...' He made his towards the shelf which stored the book he'd been reading, James Holmes, written by Arthur C.D.

'I guess it doesn't really matter what it was... Since it doesn't involve me...' He decided to be oblivious of it willingly and sat down to begin reading.

---

After leaving Ryo inside, Raphael picked up the call.

"And, why have you called, Yoru?" He asked probingly.

"Well, I need you help with this... investigation. Can you come up to the investigations room?"

Raphael sighed and replied with, "Sure," before cutting the call.

He gently made his way towards the second floor. After reaching there, the moved towards the right and stopped in front of the silver, thick, and metallic double door.

From the pocket of his navy-blue jeans, he pulled out his UII and tapped on it.

Beep!

[Identifying UII...]

[UII Identified!]

Beep!

[Raphael, Core-Member of Squad 8.

 Entry Level: End Room.

Role: Artifacts, Informations, Surveillance, Investigations and Law Expert.]

Whir!

After the appearance of the blue hologram, the door fully lay open, revealing a dark room, the only source of illumination being the lights attached to the door directly in front.

He quickly made his way past that room which had the labelling of, [Artifact Grades 1-3]

Then going through the next door with the labelling of, [Artifact Grades 3-6]

Finally, he arrived at the investigations room.

Inside stood Yoru, wearing a white tee and jeans. Along with him stood Haori, wearing the usual formal wear.

Yoru lazily stood at chair to the large curved screen and Haori strolled around aimlessly.

"So, what help might you both need?" Raphael asked, also altering the oblivious ones of his presence as he made his way towards them.

"Ah, u- " Before she could explain, Yoru cut her off and explained.

"Well... I forgot to bring equipment with me, to the crime scene... And, the scene..." As he remembered the horrifying scene he had seen, his head fell and silence fell.

Haori didn't continue with the explanation either. She was busy patting the drooping Yoru and calming him down.

Raphael looked at the two with a displeased expression before deciding to give in and help. "I suppose I'll help. Since it does have you looking like this."

Before Yoru, who had lifted his head and looked at Raphael with puppy-like eyes, could reply, Raphael added, "Show me the crime scene. If you did take any pictures of it, yes?"

Hearing this, Yoru quickly turned around and showed the pictures to Raphael one after another.

The first and the most stable picture was of the entire room and crime scene. The head, the blood smeared floor, and the separated body. All of it was clearly visible.

The second picture, which was slightly more shaky, was of the body with no head. One could still see that the shirt was crusted in blood and the general state of the body.

However, the third and the last picture was of the head which had maggots squirming all over it and mosquitos floating above it.

The photo was shaky and terrible. Raphael or rather anyone else could only see a blur, nothing else.

Raphael couldn't help but sigh and rotate his head a full circle. 'This is a nightmare...' He lampooned as he said tiredly, "I'll go and see the situation myself, so, message me the location."

As he was about to hand the phone back he suddenly asked, "And, what is Haori doing here?"

"I'm going to the other crime scenes which Xianye had sent him..." She replied instantly as she got up and made her way out after bowing to the both.

Raphael couldn't help but heave another sigh before Yoru sent him the location of the crime scene.

He quickly made his way downstairs and picked up the necessary gear from his room before heading to the garage. On his way, he caught up with Haori who was about to leave as well.

The two made their way together towards the garage and used their UII's to go into the two military vehicles.

The military vehicles were a full-size pickup truck, the exterior of it was slightly rugged and colored in matte black. It had a brutish yet a clean and elegant look to it.

After a series of exchanges between the two, debating on who should go first, with both insisting that the other should go first. They decided to play a game of rock, paper, and scissors.

"Rock, paper, scissor." The two quietly chanted before pulling out their respective hand signs.

Haori had put out her index and middle finger, forming a scissor. Raphael too had drawn a scissor.

The result was a draw!

The two quickly went for another round chanting "Rock, paper, scissor," once more.

This time, the result was, Haori forming a clasped fist, a rock, and Raphael having his hand completely open, a paper.

Raphael had won.

And so, the two slid into the cars with Haori heading towards the Area of Perimeters first, then going outside the Squad 8 Headquarter, followed shortly after by Raphael.

After a few twists and turns, Raphael arrived at the crime scene which Yoru was suppose to investigate.

He packed the gloves, paper sachets and tweezers into the pockets of his khaki trench-coat.

Thud.

After parking it at the side he went into the single-family house.

There, he saw a woman clamped into the corner of the room, directly to the right of the black armor planted on the ground by Yoru.

"Hello Miss, just some time ago my friend, Yoru had come here, I believe. I'm here on behalf on him to carry on the investigation." He quickly greeted the woman and introduced himself to not make her burst into confusion.

From there, Raphael put on his nitrile gloves on both hands before continuing further investigation.

---

Meanwhile, back in Squad 8 Headquarter Library.

"James had stumbled across yet another similar case during his investigation!"

"He quickly got up and made his way towards Sebastian and informed him of it."

"The two quickly stormed off towards the location carrying the appropriate equipment."

Ryo continued to read through the book and digest the story. Oblivious of everything around him.
