They are night creatures. Nocturnal. They spend most of the day hours asleep due to the heat and are awake during the night when they can travel unnoticed and hunt more easily. Giants seem to have an acute sense of sight. Their eyes seem to be able to focus even under the darkest conditions. It’s as if they are seeing in the dark, they hunt without being detected by prey. What do these giants prey on? Mostly deer and bear.
A typical giant needs to eat more than a hundred pounds of food daily to provide enough protein to power a body that can top fifteen feet and five hundred pounds. While giants eat meat, they also eat a balance of other foods. Other dietary items include tree bark for fiber, berries, fruits, wild birds, roots, mushrooms, eggs, water-rich leaves, and insects.”
I stopped reading the journal entry because I noticed a reference written in pencil on the margin of the page. It read “See Reference to Giant Scat Sample, REF-GIS-102.”
“Darby, what’s scat?” I had an idea of what it was but wanting to be sure.
“Scat? Is…poop!” she yelled.
“I thought so! Grandpa collected giant poop! And I think it is in here somewhere.”
“What?” Darby asked as she didn't want to believe me.
I continued reading, “Listen to this:
“Came across the foulest smelling stool today. It was human in form but measured nearly three times the size of a typical human stool. The pile was made within the last two days and was at least fifteen inches in diameter. In hand, it seemed to weigh nearly five pounds. I claimed the stool for later examination. I labeled the bag of dung – field sample “A” with the date and will weigh the mass later and dissect the sample for evidence of dietary supplements.”
Darby stopped me, “Don’t read anymore. That’s disgusting.”
“Do you believe this,” I said. “Grandpa Jack collected giant poop and then dissected it. The sample must be here somewhere. I got to see it.”
“You’re disgusting. I am not helping you find such a thing. Besides, you know this is all a joke…. or the writings of a crazy man. You remember what Gramma Louise would say about him. He’s crazy.”
With that, we heard the doorknob to the cabin turn and the door swung open. We each dropped the books we held. We both stood there frozen.
In the doorway stood the black silhouette of a giant man. The darkness of the cabin with the bright sun now beaming in made it impossible for us to make out who it was. But we both knew from the tall figure and the broad shoulders it was either Grandpa Jack or perhaps an actual giant. We hoped it was a giant and not an actual relative of ours.
