It was bright lights in the hospital. Yoshida was on a stretcher, clutching his wound. "Where am I?"
May, Kwesi, and Drew were in the same hospital room Yoshida sat in. "Hang in there, Yoshida," May said, concerned. "We're all counting on you..."
Kwesi raised his left eyebrow. "So, you're telling me my brother got stabbed by a guy in a trenchcoat over some money? I shoulda been there! I woulda given him that work!" Kwes started doing boxing moves.
"No, you wouldn't," Drew replied. "He woulda stabbed you as well."
Kwesi sighed. "I do hope he pulls through."
Yoshida looked around the hospital room, seeing a needle and thread. "Oh, fuck me... I'm getting stitches..."
Dr. Krause came in. "Hullo, Yoshida. I saw you've got stabbed by some weirdo in a trenchcoat. I'm trying to think of how to heal you. Let's check the X-ray." Dr. Krause is Yoshida's family's doctor; he moved in from Austria at 7 years old, wanting to work in the medical industry.
Yo asked, "What's the prognosis?"
"The knife was close to cutting through your heart -- you're a lucky, lucky man. Anyways, I'm gonna sedate you, and then I'll get you sewed up."
"Oh, nooooo..." Yoshida cowered from the news, but before he could move, Dr. Krause put him to sleep with the sleeping gas.
Yoshida drifted into a dream where a grown-up version of him and May were at a beach in the sunset with their children. He thought to himself, 'I guess this is my fate... I...I...I can get used to this...'
A little girl asked, "Mommy, Daddy. Mind if I have some ice cream?"
"Sure," adult Yoshida replied with a smile on his face. "Don't eat it too fast; you'll get brainfreeze."
Yoshida was looking through a void at the family, which is him. 'Awwww... That's cute. I have a son and a daughter. What's next?'
Dr. Krause slapped Yo awake. "Wake up! The surgery is finished."
He woke up and saw Kwesi, May, Drew, and his rents surrounding his hospital bed. "G-G-G-Guys...?"
"We almost lost you," Nobushiro said. "Why did you try to fight a guy who coulda stabbed you to death? You shoulda just given him the money."
"Don't do that EVER again!" Lucy was concerned about her son, who was about to be murked by the mysterious guy in a trenchcoat.
"Because I'm not just gonna let a man steal from me. Call it what you want, but I'm no punk." Yoshida looked at the iced tea next to him. "Is there any sugar?"
"No," Dr. Krause replied "but we can give you some Splenda."
"I guess..." he groaned. "I hate Splenda."
"I'm gonna get your papers signed, and I'll send you all on your way." Dr. K went in his office to retrieve some Splenda and sign his papers. "I love my job."
"I-I had a dream... I had a dream that I was married to May, and we had kids... We were about to eat ice cream," Yoshida recalled.
May hugged him. "I'm just glad you're okay. I'd be happy to make that dream a reality for you."
"I-I'd love that..." Yoshida sipped his iced tea. "Weak tea..."
Everyone in the room hugged Yoshida, grateful he's alive.
