Left Behind

Left Behind

The innate fear of having to find somewhere to hide and lay still, make sure the sun can’t get to you. The hunters can’t pull back the sheets on your safety or some misguided child tattle that you are not one of them when you think of them too closely related to friend forced Misha  to open his eyes just for quick verification that this is a safe location even if he knew logically old wound no longer bled. Confusion fully snapped him alert.

When did he go to sleep? He uncrossed his arms and stood away door, taking in the space absent of  Solánine . Nothing was out of place, not even the bed. It was only crinkled as if mass ceased to exist underneath.  Misha  lifted the blanket in manufactured air, smoothing it evenly across the surface of the bed frame, tucking in the overlap. He folded down an inviting triangle at the side furthest from the entrance, caressing it to a crisp as if the long cold space could feel his presence.

She doesn't need me.

He moved on to fluff the pillows and hand wipe most horizontal surfaces. 'to her', he finished his thought out loud in a barely audible whisper. "I'm something hidden away in the smallest corner of one of these long touched chest, but never fully committed to opening." He clapped his hands in the air clouding his vision away from the signs of her new treasures.

Misha  went into the hall to wrap up his adventure just to land in another. A small brown and golden animal franticly raced past him, paws slapping stone , whines trailing behind. Typically, uninvited, unassigned or lost individuals on this level of Heartscape tower would either be seamlessly lead to the nearest exit, left to wander what they would believe was an endless hallway until escorted to a public location or morgue by a helping hand. This boy clearly fell into the ladder since he was no longer attached to Djinn , an invited guest. Misha  considered waiting for him to exhaust himself, scooping him up and delivering him to an old friend until something curious happened. On it's third lap it started panting. On its fourth it slowed down, leaving rustic paw prints in its trail. On its seventh lap Misha  was sure it was on the verge of death, one shaky step at a time when a blinding light emanated from it.

Misha  checked his ring just in case the child's glow was based in sunlight. His ring and skin were fine, but in observing the child he noticed instead of singular tail there were now two and a nub that deviated from typical Shifter or Demi-Beast knowledge. It's chest expanded to take in a comfortable breath. Misha 's ears noted the signs of death was no more while it took a pouncing position then leaped onto the wall, picking up speeds rivaling lap one as it ran along the walls . He wished the cub luck, though it would work no better than skimming the walls with your hand or laying down bread crumbs.

A handful of steps later he was face to face with a presumably blind man wearing black, muted earth tones underneath common to security loaned from Finsole . "First high Light, Lord Vherion" , the guard greeted. "There will be no further announcements until tenth hour. Would you like specialized accommodations or request?"

"There's a cub..."

"Oh, yes that one was entertaining last shift. It has yet to pose a threat, but approaching was ill advised. Demi-Beast children can be quite dangerous when frightened. stamina, that one." The guard chuckled. "Is it yours, Sir?"

"No."

"Oh, Good." The man exclaimed opening the door in a wide arc.

"retrieve it."

"Sir...?" The man wondered if he offended another powerful being in the course of a single day. Maybe, there was a misunderstanding or Lord Vherion didn't hear him. Impossible the relatively new vampire could hear a heartbeat with discernibility within a 27km omni-directional if chose to. He is already in the mist of painfully regrowing muscle and extra duty the next offense may cost his life. The man looked towards the wind created by the cub and sighed dramatically. "Yes, sir. should i bring it inside?" A thin smile of affirmation was all that was received before Misha walked into the small room separating his peers from the rest of the city tower.

"All weapons will be returned upon departure confirmation." The Akuricillum, a mushroom-like creature vibrated a reminder underneath its moisture retaining cloth then opened the door to abrupt silence.

The creatures that dwelled on the outskirts and underbellies of common society no longer need to hide. The beings of myth; often vilified in nursery rhymes as a lesson for tykes or fetishized by adolescence as their strawman to take hold of their agency (, a faux rebel in the face of puritanical morality) will write their own histories without the censorship of mortal lines or judgement.
