Episode 3
INSIDE - THE HALL — Morning
They continue walking. With no end in sight Earl tries to start up some small talk.
EARL : “Soo...if the hallway is this big, how big is the kitchen?”
FENNECO : “Kitchen..? ...Ah, yes. The kitchen. It is...adequate. Nothing too remarkable.”
She pauses to think for a moment, she stops walking.
FENNECO : “Although...it is strange how we haven't reached the door yet...it should automatically appear after 20 steps. Unless…”
Fenneco suddenly freezes up, taking a step back and sticking her arm out, wrapping it around Earl. Earl looks at her a bit flustered.
EARL : “What are you—?!”
Then, the floor underneath them transforms into a hole in the blink of an eye and they fall in darkness. Earl yells.
EARL : (Very very panicked) “AHHHHHHHHHHHH WHAT THE HHEEEEEEELLLLLLL?????”
Fenneco keeps holding on to Earl’s shoulder, she looks down and carries him bridal style, and she lands on the floor in a scrappy looking room. She lets him down.
EARL : (startled) “W-where are we???”
BENNIE : “F-fenneco..? Is that you?”
BENNIE gently looks behind a curtain from a corner of the room.
BENNIE : (excited) “T-there you are! I’ve made adjustments—”
Bennie freezes when he sees Earl.
BENNIE : “A...a...a-a-a HUMAN?!”
Bennie starts to do wild hand movements.
BENNIE : “Y-y-you’re not supposed to be out of your cell! H-how did you escape?? Fenneco! D-don’t hurt them! Remember how it’s against protocol—?”
FENNECO : “I let him out.”
BENNIE : “Please—!” (realizes) “Wait. What?”
Earl looks around the room, slightly lifting the blanket on the hammock in the corner to see the dragon cartoon design.
EARL : “She’s the one who let me out—nice blanket by the way.”
BENNIE : “O-oh! Thanks..” (Bennie goes on a rant) “it’s limited edition on human earth, it was first made back in the human year 1988, even when it was first made it wasn’t highly valued—or popular as you guys call it, but despite the low interest the company still went out and produced the blanket in 5 different colors! Later on, in 2003 the blanket became popular and just about everyone wanted one—but because of the amount of interest in the beginning there wasn’t any continued production. So, all the humans had rushed to collect their own version of the blanket. And yeah! By the time we made it to earth, there were only 5 blankets of this kind left on the entire earth! One of those blankets were luckily absorbed up into our beams! And it collected into my room, and now I have it here! It’s really fascinating actually—I learned this all from this booklet about blankets! It was in..what do you humans call it..a mag..ga..vine? uhm..nevermind.”
Earl sidebars to Fenneco.
EARL : “Chatty, isn’t he?”
Fenneco tilts her head a bit, seeming a little confused on what he means. Earl sighs.
EARL : (sighs) “Nevermind.”
BENNIE : (Nervous) “But—uhm, Fenneco, why did you let him out..? Usually you don’t..break protocol. Ever.”
Earl looks to Fenneco, also a bit curious.
FENNECO : (pauses to think) “Well. I...he..wanted sustenance. And we can not allow the humans to die so easily.”
BENNIE : “Oh! Really?”
FENNECO : (abrupt) “Affirmative.”
EARL : (cutting in) “Yeah—so, food? Can we go now?”
BENNIE : “Ah! Yes! Of course! Let me help you..!”
Bennie heads over to his curtained covered corner, going behind it he starts typing on a device.
BENNIE : (to himself) “Opening door...” (to Fenneco and Earl) “Now!”
The door in the corner opens up, revealing a huge room, stacked with white futuristic boxes piled on shelves on top of each other. On the very top, it’s labeled (Earth Sustenance). Fenneco walks up to the panel and types in a certain command. Once she's done, she looks up and a shelf holding 3 boxes side by side floats forward and heads downwards, hovering just above the floor. Fenneco walks to the box and unlocks it, opening it and a digital menu automatically pops up revealing different food cuisines.
FENNECO : “Is this what you were speaking of?”
EARL : (Excited) “Yes!”
Earl rushes to the box and looks into it, he goes ahead and sees just a blackness. His face immediately drops.
EARL : (disappointed and deadpan) “There is literally nothing in here.”
FENNECO : “Oh. You cannot see.”
(unsure) “Then, would you appreciate..” (she’s reading off of the panel, very unsure) ”..pie...zza?”
EARL : (Lights up) “Uh, yeah!”
Earl watches as she taps on the panel, then suddenly, she pulls out a pizza.
EARL : “Finally!” (Earl munches on the pizza)
Fenneco watches, intrigued by how happy Earl is. She looks back to the box, contemplating. Earl sees her staring at the pizza and then the box.
EARL : “Do you..want some? Cuz if you do..I'm not sharing. Get your own.”
Fenecco nods softly.
FENNECO : “I would not take something that you were wanting. But..we do not gain sustenance like you humans do. It is just..interesting.”
EARL : (Skeptical) “You guys don't eat your food? What do you do then? Photosynthesis?”
FENNECO : “We simply get sustained from our planet.”
EARL : “..So..you’re vegetarian?”
FENNECO : “No, our planet..feeds us essentially. Through these.”
Fenneco points to the numbers on her cheek.
FENNECO : “Our planet assigned us this.”
EARL : “So..you're number nine?”
FENNECO : (unsure) “..Number?”
EARL : “Uh, yeah. It's on your face.”
FENNECO : (unsure) “Oh. Well. I suppose it is to you humans.”
Earl just shrugs it off.
EARL : “So..can I have another?”
FENNECO : “..alright.”
Bennie peaks his head around the door.
BENNIE : “So..uhm, can..can I have one too..? Please?”
FENNECO : ..(sighs) “alright..”
Bennie lightens up and makes his way over to the two, sitting down next to Earl, looking up to Fenneco excitedly. Fenneco just goes to get another pizza, handing it to Bennie. Bennie happily munches.
BENNIE : (happy) “This is pretty good Fenneco..! You should try some..!”
Fenneco stares.
FENNECO : (unsure) “There’s only one left..I..should not. I decline.”
EARL : “Then I guess you’ll just miss out.”
Fenneco stays quiet for a moment and then goes to get herself a slice, sitting down along with the two of them. Nibbling down a bit hesitant. Before giving a slight nod of approval.
BENNIE : (laughs a little) “See?”
Fenneco nods slightly, looking at Earl staring at his empty plate..Fenneco pushes her plate towards him.
FENNECO : (a bit shy) “I do not require any more. You can have it.”
EARL : (skeptical) “Really?”
Fenneco nods slightly and Bennie grins. They enjoy their pizza.
