If Only You Were Dead to Me

The Real Issue Here Isn't Me, Right?

The Real Issue Here Isn't Me, Right?

Jun 25, 2025

There was a layover in a different big city, but the terminal that I was supposed to go to wasn't listed on any of the maps of the airport. I decided that my best bet would be to ask someone about it, so I approached the nearest help desk for people who got lost on their way to their flights. The desk was manned by two masculine presenting people, one was tall, bald, and had a white beard while the other one was shorter and had short dark hair.

"Hello, can either of you point me into the direction of the Z terminal?" I asked. The shorter person looked at me and frowned.

"There is no 'Z' terminal," the shorter person said. The taller one shook their head while chuckling.

"Emerson, I got this one," the taller one said, "He's probably just really lost. I'll call Everett over and see if he can help." He typed at his keyboard and within three minutes another person, probably Everett came.

"Are you in need of assistance, Ma'am?" the guy that just showed up asked.

"I'm not a Ma'am," I said, "But yes. I need help finding the Z terminal."

"Oh, sorry, sir," he said.

"Yeah, I'm not that either," I said.

"Oh," he said, "Well, my name is Everett, and I know this place like the back of my hand. I'll get you wherever you need to be."

"I'm Rory," I said.

"Yup, just hop on my little golf cart and we'll be on our way," Everett said. So, I did. He proceeded to take me to a place with barely any people. "Welp, we're here. Terminal Z, just like you wanted." Everett pointed to a blank wall.

"There's no terminal there," I said.

"You're thinking too logically," Everett said, "It just looks like a blank wall, but you can walk through it and get to your correct flight."

"I don't believe you for a second," I said.

"You might as well just try it," Everett said, "You'll be surprised. We don't get a lot of travelers going to this terminal, but I've seen many come out of it."

"If you say so," I said.

"Oh and if you meet a lady with pink hair and blue glasses," Everett said, "Can you tell her that Everett Cunningham says that he wishes her the best?"

"If I see her," I said.

"She works here," Everett said, "So she has the same uniform as the lost traveler desk that we met at. Her name is Bernice Goldstien."

"Oh, okay," I said. So, I took a chance and somehow went through the wall. On the other side, I was met with a weird crowd with many different hair colors and I think I saw a more than a few non-humans. I was in awe for like 5 mins before I realized that I was almost late for my flight. I got on the plane and somehow I felt like I wasn't on Earth as I knew it anymore.
