Obssessed perverted royal heir × you
*First person pov, bg, one shot.
Part. 1

-
You peered through the bush.

Your target stood beside the river, alone, back towards you.

He looked well above six feet. Broad shoulders. The slightly tight combat uniform fitted neatly against his lean yet muscular figure.

You saw him kneel down; his trousers tightened around his slim waistline.

You stared down at your short legs. It's ok.

You were only given vague descriptions of the target. Tall, brown hair, hazel eyes, most important feature was a long crescent shaped scar from their left cheek down to the neck. You had to get closer.

If all went well, this would be your last task. As a low-level mercenary, you were aware of your capabilities, dangerous tasks were never an option. Escorts were paid less favourably than bounty hunters, and your boss always paid you and other female mercenaries less than the legal wage. Yet it was still better than when you were a cleaning maid for that filthy corrupt government official.

You only needed the money from this bounty hunt, then you would have enough to quit this hustling life.

You would also be able to move to another city and get rid of that stalker.

Somehow, a month after you quit the cleaning maid job, you started losing stuff out of the blue. First it was small objects, then it became personal things. Three toothbrushes, four underwears and six bras. Mysterious bouquets of flowers also appeared randomly on your doorstop. All of which convinced you there was a pervert stalking you.

The bounty was for a low-risk exile who previously belonged to the Imperial court. Maybe he got caught in the political tide or offended the higher ups. It was none of your business though. You just needed his head.
You held your breath as he turned around.

Slightly pale, sharp facial features. A pair of dark emerald-coloured eyes locked directly onto the bush you were hiding behind.

Pretty face, but no scar. You had followed the wrong person.

As you panicked the man made his way towards you.

No, you had to run.
Run stupid legs.

You felt a coldness against your neck, then before you could react a large hand pinned you to the ground.

The earthy, slightly bitter taste of dirt filled your mouth. Like a stranded fish, you struggled, gasping for breath. A silver sword pierced through the ground, inches away from your head.

"Look what I've found. A little stalker."

His grip loosened a bit. “Who sent you?”

With no response, his large veiny hands pinched your cheeks, then forced your face up.

Suddenly, a series of thundering hoofbeats and muffled shouting sounded in the distance.

Arrows pierced through the air, sinking into the ground and nearby trees.

He let you go.

You collapsed on the damp forest floor, heaving for fresh air.

You saw an intricate symbol on his sword sheath. You tried to get a closer look, yet a dizzy sensation took over, and you stumbled clumsily into the man.

He picked you up by the waist, then carried you like a baby over to his horse and wrapped you inside his cape.

“Wait, where are you taking me?” You tried to wrestle out.

He gripped your wrists. “Don’t move, or you would rather get caught by those filthy bandits?”

You froze dead still. The man laughed.

You had heard of the bandits in the north; they lingered along the border raiding villages. The imperial court had tried many times to eradicate them. Yet all attempts had failed so far.

You did not know how far you travelled.

You tried to stay awake by biting your tongue until it felt numb and tasted blood, only to doze off and be wakened repeatedly by the consistent, tireless galloping of the horse. He occasionally fed you with what tasted like dried meat slices. Maybe beef jerky? You thought inside your dizzy head.

When he finally pulled the horse to a stop, the sky was already dark. You could see the dark outlines of sand dunes; a fresh saltiness from that of the ocean breeze in mid-summer filled the stifling desert air.

He carried you inside a tent.

You sat motionless on the soft matt. Your wrists numb from the coarse rope. It was tied rather loosely, just tight enough so you couldn’t break free.

He fed a flask to your lips. “Water.”

You gulped greedily, then once you finished, he tilted his head and drank the rest.

His emerald eyes appeared lighter under the warm candlelight.

Having noticed your gaze, he looked down. You held your hands up.

He got up and fetched a small blade, then with one slash the rope spiralled to the ground in pieces.

“You’re free to go now.”

“Hey, you’re the one who kidnapped me here.” You felt a rush of anger surge up.

“You’re the one who was stalking me.” He said with a smile.

“Well, um, that was an accident.” You shuffled uneasily.

He squatted down before you. “You’re so bad at hiding.”

“Was it that obvious?”

“Mhm.”

You gazed down awkwardly. Yet he didn’t let you get away.

“Let me guess. How much for my head.” He lifted your chin up.

“No, it wasn’t for yours.”

“You were planning to follow someone else?” He raised an eyebrow.

You remained silent.

Suddenly, he leaned forward.

“Want to know why you received the wrong information?”

You stared at him. What did he mean?

“Early tomorrow morning, a few hours from now, news will arrive.” He blinked slowly.

“What news?” You sensed instantly something had slipped out of control.

You were suspicious when you and a bunch of other escorts were given the chance for ludicrous bounty hunts. The way the mercenary boss kept wiping sweat off his bald, shiny head, bowing to those weird court officials. Then there were the bandits that appeared in the mountain, a far distance from the border.

Suddenly, you remembered the rumours you had heard. Could it be...traitors?

“Looks like you’re onto something. Don’t look at me with those eyes.”

“What eyes?” You snapped back without thinking.

He drew his face closer, and closer until his nose tip almost touched yours.

His broad figure enveloped you tightly. Under his shadow, you saw the slight smile lingering on the corner of his lips.

Something about him appeared oddly familiar, yet somehow you could not recognise what it was.

You heard him sigh very lightly.

“Look at me.” His deep and raspy voice sounded softly next to you.

A bitter, smoky taste filled your senses. You sniffed again as his warm breath caressed your cheeks. His tongue sucked softly on the tip of yours.

“You’re like a little kitten. A bit slow, but so cute.” He kissed you again.

He pinched your cheeks, then licked your pouty lips.

As you stuck your tongue out for air, a larger tongue shoved in aggressively.

It dragged and entangled with yours.

You heard him swallow your saliva greedily.

*Haa~*

“Wait-Let me” “Focus.” He bit your lip lightly. You bit back harder.

He shoved deeper inside. You drowned helplessly under his gentle yet concentrated gaze.

*ngh* *ahh~*

When he finally let you go, you collapsed, panting in his lap.

He licked down your neck slowly.

You shivered as a gust of cold wind blew in from outside.

He wrapped you inside his large cape. Then wrapped another fluffy blanket over you.

“The messenger has returned your highness. Here is the urgent letter from the vice minister.”

A soldier in black armoured uniform stood just outside to the side of the tent’s entrance. You spotted the silver, rectangular waist token hanging from his belt. You squinted your eyes. “N.I.S.G”.

North Imperial Secret Guard. “Qingniao” was their more well-known name.

The moistness from the early morning air snuck in, mixed with the smell of burnt wood. A chill ran down your spine.

Any case which involved the Qingniao were directly tied to the imperial court and the palace. They had the power to arrest, investigate, execute and punish even officials, especially those of higher ranks. Qingniao, they were also messenger birds in ancient myths. The birds of the heavens.

There were only two highnesses in the empire. One was dead from the war, and the other one, you looked at the other taller man standing before the soldier. “Fei.”

The man looked up from the letter. “Yes?”

His green eyes slowly overlapped with someone else’s in your memory.

“Why…” You paused, not knowing what exactly you wanted to ask.

Fei waved the soldier away. “Since we’re here. Let me show you something.”

Outside, the first lights of dawn had already arrived. Soldiers lined up for their breakfast rations. The scent of sweet porridge filled the surrounding air.

Fei held you tight against his chest with one hand, the other firmly gripped onto the reins.

The wind brushed past in gusts, in the distance the horizon stretched out in a perfectly straight grey line.

Dampened bonfires scattered along the shoreline appeared recent. Ash flakes swept up by the wind danced high before finally disappearing into the waves.

Fei pulled the reins, and the horse halted before an abandoned hut. “We landed on this beach, six years ago, when I brought my brother's ashes back from the Ariya rebels."

You gazed at the rising sun slowly emerging above the horizon. It cast majestic golden rays across the grey ocean. Ravens cawed from nearby cliffs, sea eagles hovered above, circling their territories. Peace always came with a price. Yet corruption never ended.

“Mercenaries in the southeast have colluded with rebels and bandits from the north.”

“The army has been deployed to quell the invasion. The imperial guards are searching for traitors and spies.”

“Stay with me, nobody will dare touch you.”

You grasped his hand, “How do you know I’m not one of...them.”

"Why are you trusting me?"

Fei gently stroked your hair. His eyes locked steadily with yours.

“Catch them! They’re over there.” A group of men on horseback charged out from behind the cliff.

Balaclavas covered their faces, devilish tattoos rose from their exposed skin.

Fei hugged you tight as he pulled the reins. He handed you a bow and some arrows. “When they come within sixty paces, shoot.” You nodded your head inside his cape. His hand supported your waist as you leaned over to aim. His warm breath just inches away from your face.

Sixty-five. Sixty. Fifty. The arrow pierced straight through the air into one of the leading men’s throats. You missed the next one.

Soon you ran out of arrows. “Fei,”

“Don’t worry, cover your eyes, then count down from any number you like.” Fei pulled the horse to a halt; the men were just under a hundred paces away now. “It will all be over at zero.”

He pulled out his sword. Its black body gleamed coldly under the dawning light, intricate carvings embedded the sword’s handle, along with a delicate carving of a lotus flower in the middle. The nine-petalled lotus flower, the symbol of the royal family. You had seen it somewhere. Wait. That banquet at the government official’s mansion, you remember a man also carried a similar sword.

Sharp and accurate. Every move was lethal. With every move one man fell to the ground. The ruthless light from Fei’s sword tip danced around in the air, like a twirling butterfly in the storm, impossible to catch a clear glimpse of.

Fei retrieved his sword from the last man’s body.

In the distance, you saw the Qingniao approaching.

“Your highness, we have just received confirmation, the rebels have launched their offensive towards the southwest, near the snowy hill passing.”

“Send my command, deploy all troops immediately. Cut them off before they cross the border.”

“Yes, your highness.”
