Moonbound: The Blood of Ashwood

Chapter Eighteen: Sanctuary's Embrace

Chapter Eighteen: Sanctuary's Embrace

Jul 02, 2025

Elias ran, the forest blurring around him. With each stride he carved deeper into unknown territory pushing himself to reach whatever sanctuary, he and Eva had desperately needed, a place where they could try and understand all these new things that destiny had called for them. The weight of Eva in his arms was a constant reminder of the precious cargo he carried, the fragile hope for a future free from Lillith’s grasp. He knew the Bloodmoon hunters would be relentless in their pursuit, their senses as keen as his own his only hope, was that the diversion he created was enough to have distanced them if only for a day to regroup.

His Visioning flickered, showing him fragmented images of the hunters regrouping, their faces contorted with rage, Lillith’s chilling voice echoing their commands like whispers on the wind. The scent of blood and treachery clung to these visions. Lilith was not one bit someone to play with, she was someone who could bring whatever was once light to a dark place, and if Elias could not control it, who would?

He pushed the images aside, focusing on the path ahead. He couldn't afford to be distracted. He had to reach sanctuary, whatever that might be.

After what felt like an eternity, the trees began to thin, giving way to a rolling landscape bathed in the soft glow of the setting sun. In the distance, nestled between two towering peaks, he saw it – the Silverwood Valley. His mother’s ancestral home. A place where magic wasn't just accepted, it was woven into the very fabric of existence. A place where those with blood were not condemned but celebrated.

Entering the valley he felt a strange calmness in his blood, a tranquility his senses had been starved for his past home held, a cold and dark magic. The air here was different, alive with energy, the scent of wildflowers and flowing water replacing the cloying aroma of the Shadowfen. Ancient, gnarled trees stood sentinel, their branches laden with luminous blossoms that pulsed with a soft, ethereal light. The very ground beneath his paws seemed to hum with a gentle vibration, a welcoming embrace that resonated deep within his soul for he knew the place held a connection to another part of him.

He slowed his pace as they reached the outskirts of a village, far different from his own home, smoke curled lazily from the chimneys of cozy cottages built into the sides of the hills, their walls adorned with intricate carvings of wolves and celestial bodies. The air crackled with hushed conversations and laughter as the inhabitants. They were people who had accepted their own blood and did not look at them as strangers but allies welcoming a new member.

He continued, and noticed a larger structure in the center of the village, a magnificent longhouse carved from a single, gigantic redwood tree. It pulsed with a radiant light, the heart of the valley's magic. This, he knew, was the home of the Alpha. He knew this was it: the home of the Moonwhisper Pack his mothers ancestral pack.

As they entered the village a hush fell over the inhabitants. Curious eyes followed him, a mixture of awe and apprehension in their gaze. He could sense their fear, but he could also sense their respect. They recognized the power he exuded, the raw, untamed force of the Alpha Ascendant, the magic that was a part of what they also knew.

A pathway opened before him, leading to the longhouse as if they knew. Two large werewolves, their fur the color of polished silver, stepped forward, their eyes fixed on his. They were guardians, protectors of the Alpha, and their stance was wary but not hostile.

"Greetings," Elias rumbled, his voice resonating with his newfound power. "I am Elias Greyback, son of Elara Moonwhisper, and I seek sanctuary for myself. But more importantly," Elias said revealing something between his hands, "I seek refuge for the girl in my arms."

The guardians exchanged glances, recognition dawning in their eyes. Elara Moonwhisper was a legend in these parts, a powerful sorceress who had left the valley many years ago to find her own path. Her name still carried weight, a symbol of strength and wisdom.

“Elara’s son,” one of the guardians murmured, bowing his head in respect. “Welcome to Silverwood. The Alpha will see you.”

They stepped aside, allowing Elias to enter the longhouse a warm and welcoming embrace surrounded him. The smell of woods, tales, fire and ancient stories with a magic he had yet to learn and start. From the main living room to what he could now call as "The Elders Speak" due to his newly connection and visioning now giving Elias a better understanding of what was here. The power to protect and command what a pack will be.

The longhouse was vast and cavernous, the walls adorned by intricate tapestries depicting scenes of werewolf lore and celestial events. At the far end of the room, seated upon a throne carved from the heartwood of the ancient tree, was a magnificent she-wolf. Her fur shimmered like moonlight on water, her eyes glowed with a gentle wisdom, and there was a regal calm in her demeanor. She held herself differently like Eva, but more ancient with a smile that spoke with an invitation. This was his grandmother, Alpha Lyra Moonwhisper.

Elias approached her, his head bowed in respect, and placed Eva gently at the foot of the throne. Then, kneeling before the Alpha, he told his story – of the Bloodmoon hunters, of Eva’s powers, of the ancient prophecy, and of the choices he must make that will affect everyone.

Alpha Lyra listened patiently, her expression thoughtful. When he finished, she looked at him, her gaze piercing yet kind.

"You have inherited a heavy burden, Elias Greyback," she said, her voice soft but firm. “A burden that will test you in ways you cannot imagine.”

“I am ready,” Elias replied, his voice resolute. “I will protect Eva, and I will protect this valley, I will protect my kin, with my life.”

Alpha Lyra smiled, a glimmer of pride in her eyes. “I believe you,” she said. “But you cannot do this alone. You need guidance. You need training. You need allies now more than ever before.”

She gestured towards the other werewolves within the longhouse, their eyes watching attentively. "The Moonwhisper Pack is yours to command now too, Elias. We will help you protect Eva, for she who holds the past with her blood to the moon we are connected. We will help you fight Lillith. We will help you fulfill your destiny as Alpha Ascendant, as if your blood of the pack was from here and not Ashwood.”

Elias looked at the assembled werewolves, their faces a mix of hope and determination. He felt a surge of strength, a renewed sense of purpose coursing through his veins. He was not alone. He had found sanctuary. He had found his pack and something more.

As he gazed at Eva, her still form nestled near the throne, he knew the battle was far from over. But with his people at his side, and the magic of Silverwood flowing through him, he faced
