Moonbound: The Blood of Ashwood

Chapter Nineteen: Whispers of the Ancients

Chapter Nineteen: Whispers of the Ancients

Jul 02, 2025

Silverwood Valley pulsed with a life force Elias had never experienced in Ashwood. The magic here wasn't a hidden current, but a vibrant, flowing river that nourished the land and its inhabitants. He spent the next few days acclimating to this new environment, his senses reveling in the vibrant energy that permeated the air. He trained with the Moonwhisper Pack, their fighting styles fluid and adaptable, emphasizing speed and agility over brute strength. He sparred with his grandmother, Alpha Lyra, her wisdom and experience a formidable match for his raw power as they exchanged and practiced what they have learned; she knew that he couldn't unleash his full enhanced abilities, not yet. Control was paramount, and the consequences of losing oneself to the surge of power were too dire to contemplate.

Eva, under the watchful eye of the pack’s healers, slowly regained her strength. The connection to Lillith, though still present, seemed muted within the valley’s protective embrace. It was as if Silverwood’s magic acted as a shield, deflecting the sorceress’s insidious reach. Eva's dreams, once haunted by visions of blood and darkness, were now filled with images of flowering meadows and sun-drenched forests landscapes that mirrored the valley they inhabited.

But the peace was fragile.

Elias’s Visioning ability continued to flicker with unsettling images of the Bloodmoon hunters closing in, their pursuit relentless. Lillith’s fury was a palpable force, a storm gathering on the horizon. He knew they couldn’t hide forever. They had to prepare for war and create a new generation of people who knew these lands so they could understand what power was available and not fear it like the people from the old home.

One evening, as the sun dipped below the peaks casting long shadows across the valley, Alpha Lyra summoned Elias to the heart of the longhouse. The air crackled with anticipation, a sense of foreboding hanging heavy in the silence. The elders of the Moonwhisper Pack were gathered, their faces grim, their eyes fixed on Elias.

“We have consulted the ancient scrolls,” Alpha Lyra said, her voice resonating with a gravitas that commanded attention. “The prophecy you spoke of, the one concerning the Blood of Ashwood and the coming darkness… it is more dire than we first believed.”

Elias listened intently, his heart pounding in his chest. He knew whatever the elders revealed would change everything.

“The scrolls speak of a ritual,” Alpha Lyra continued, her gaze piercing, “a ritual that Lillith plans to perform under the next blood moon. A ritual that will grant her unimaginable power, a power that could shatter the balance between the supernatural world and the human realm and take everything.”

Elias felt a chill crawl down his spine. A blood moon ritual. He had heard whispers of such rituals, dark and forbidden ceremonies that drew upon the most potent of magical forces.

“What kind of ritual?” Elias asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

“A ritual of binding,” one of the elders replied, his voice raspy with age. “Lilith intends to bind the spirits of the Wild Hunt to her will, to unleash their fury upon the world and use them to control whatever she sees fit.”

The Wild Hunt. The spectral riders, harbingers of death and destruction. Elias had faced them before, and he knew their power was immense a power that could easily destroy them. If Lillith gained control of them, there would be no stopping her.

“We cannot allow this to happen,” Elias said, his voice firm. “We have to stop her.”

“The scrolls also speak of a weapon,” Alpha Lyra said, her gaze intense. “A weapon forged in the heart of a dying star, a weapon imbued with the power to vanquish even the darkest of magic the Starfang Blade.”

Elias’s heart leaped with a flicker of hope. A weapon that could defeat Lillith. It was a long shot, but it was their only chance.

“Where is this weapon?” Elias asked, his voice urgent.

“It is hidden,” Alpha Lyra replied, her expression grim. “Hidden in a place known only to the ancients. A place guarded by trials and tribulations that few have ever survived.”

Trials. Tribulations. Elias wasn't afraid. He had faced death before. He would face whatever challenges stood between him and the Starfang Blade. If there was even the slightest chance of stopping Lillith, he would take it.

He turned to look at Eva, her spirit resting peacefully in sleep, the burden of her destiny for for a brief respite. He knew what he had to do. He had to find this weapon. He had to protect her, not only her body but her soul to rest as well. And he had to save a world that may be about to come to an end.

He turned back to Alpha Lyra, his eyes resolute.

“Tell me where to find it,” he said, his voice steeled with determination. “I will bring back the Starfang Blade.”
