Keva stared at the man who only just shot his employer minutes before. The man sat on the cushioned couch with his legs crossed. His elbow propped on the armrest, with his fist supporting the side of his face. He had switched out of the butler uniform into a simple maroon waistcoat over the top of a white collar shirt with an unbuttoned top. Slightly unkempt brunette hair swayed with the wind from the open window. The man stared at him with dark brown eyes, making it seem like you were staring into oblivion. A large build that was more fitting for a bodyguard than a mere butler. A dark and gloomy atmosphere surrounded him, befitting of a violent man. Keva knew full well how dangerous the situation he was in was. This man in front of him was no butler but a monster who was done hiding. Keva shivered.
“Was there something you wanted to speak to me about?” His voice startled Keva out of his daze.
He cleared his throat before talking, trying his hardest to bury his fear. He had seen this man take out the guards and then shoot Andres. With Keva’s family rivalry ongoing and Torin's hatred for him, Torin wouldn’t miss a chance to kill him and make it look like an accident. This was a chance for him to hire a bodyguard who could protect him. Although now sitting in front of the man, Keva was starting to get second thoughts. What would stop him from killing his new one if this man could kill his previous employer? Keva let out a heavy sigh.
“I wanted to make a deal with you,” He took a breath before continuing, “I want you to be my bodyguard, as it seems you have lost your old one. You'd also need a way out of the consequences of what you did, and I can be that way out.”
The man’s gaze grew sharper. Keva could feel his skin crawl; it took everything in him not to shiver so obviously.
“I will provide you with the necessities needed. I will also.” He was interrupted.
“Alright,” The man's voice came as a low rumble.
“Huh?” What? He couldn’t agree to this that easily! Why would he need to? Was he planning something?
“You have a point, I do need a new job. How much would the pay be?”
Still in shock, he thought for a moment. “It depends on how dangerous it will be. We can start with 1000 Slorri.”
The man thought momentarily before sitting up and putting out his hand.
“Deal,” A slight grin growing on his face.
Keva felt the hairs rise along the back of his neck. He shook the man’s hand in return.
He spoke his name, “Dáinn Berg.”
“Keva O’Conner”
