Destined Ties

Luna

Luna

Jul 12, 2025

The day of my departure finally arrived, and I stood outside the family bakery, surrounded by my loved ones. Tears streamed down my face as I hugged my parents tightly, trying to memorize the feeling of their warm embrace. My friends, Fin, Charlotte, and Aria, were there too, their faces etched with sadness and nostalgia.

As we said our goodbyes, the townspeople gathered around, congratulating me on my achievement. They'd always been supportive of my dreams, and I felt grateful for their kindness. The warm-hearted residents of our small town had come together to celebrate my success, and it was a moment I'll never forget.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. I knew I'd miss this place, these people, and the comfort of familiarity. But I was also excited for the adventures that awaited me in London.

My mother handed me a small package, her eyes brimming with tears. "Take this with you," she said softly. "It's a little something to remind you of home."

I unwrapped the package, revealing a beautifully crafted silver locket with a small photo of my family inside. I hugged my mother tightly, feeling a lump form in my throat.

As I turned to leave, Fin stepped forward, his eyes shining with emotion. "We'll miss you, Lu," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Charlotte and Aria nodded in agreement, their faces streaked with tears. We shared a group hug, holding each other tightly as the reality of my departure sank in.

The townspeople cheered and applauded as I walked away, their faces smiling and supportive. I felt a sense of pride and gratitude, knowing that I'd made a difference in their lives, no matter how small.

As I disappeared from view, I turned back to wave, my heart heavy with emotion. I knew that I'd carry the memories of this town and its people with me always, and that they'd continue to inspire me as I pursued my dreams in London.

Arrival

I stepped out of the taxi and onto the bustling campus of Her Marry Queen's girl hostel, my suitcase wheels rumbling over the pavement. The warm sunlight danced across the buildings, casting a welcoming glow over the entire scene. I took a deep breath, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves as I gazed up at the hostel's facade. As I made my way to my assigned room, I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. What would my roommate be like? Would we get along?
I pushed open the door to room 202 , and a smile spread across my face as I took in the cheerful decor. The room was a haven of light and color, with baby pink walls that seemed to glow in the afternoon sun. The yellow bunk bed was a vibrant splash of brightness, and the lilac study tables added a touch of elegance to the space. A plush carpet covered the floor, and a mini round table sat atop it, surrounded by two comfortable-looking chairs. I spotted my roommate, Emily, sitting at one of the study tables, her nose buried in a book. She looked up as I entered, and a warm smile spread across her face.
"Hey, you must be Luna!" she exclaimed, rising from her seat to greet me.
 "Welcome to our humble abode!"
I smiled back, feeling an instant sense of ease with her. "Thanks, Emily! It's great to meet you."
As we chatted, I began to unpack my suitcase, putting away my clothes and books in the compact storage space provided. Emily showed me around the room, pointing out the various amenities and sharing some tips on how to make the most of our time in the hostel. As she worked, I couldn't help but notice the little touches that made our room feel like home. A vase of fresh flowers sat on the mini round table, adding a pop of color and fragrance to the space. Emily told me that she loved flowers, and I smiled, feeling grateful to have a roommate with similar tastes.
With my suitcase unpacked, I sat down at my study table, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. I glanced over at Emily, who was now typing away on her laptop.
"So, what's your major?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me.
"I'm studying literature," she replied, looking up from her screen. "How about you?"
"I'm majoring in law," I said, smiling. "I'm really excited to dive into the subject and learn more about the legal system." As we chatted, I realized that Emily and I had a lot in common. We shared similar interests, and our conversation flowed easily. I felt grateful to have her as my roommate, and I knew that we would get along just fine. As the afternoon wore on, we settled into a comfortable routine, studying and chatting in between. I felt a sense of belonging wash over me, knowing that I had found a friend and a partner in crime in Emily.
The room was quiet and cozy, the soft hum of the air conditioning creating a soothing background noise. I felt my eyelids growing heavy, the stress of the day melting away as I relaxed in my new surroundings. As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the room.
I smiled at Emily. "I'm so glad we're roommates," I said, feeling a sense of gratitude.
Emily smiled back, her eyes shining with warmth. "Me too, Luna. I think we're going to have a great time together."
As I snuggled into my bed, I felt the softness of the blanket envelop me, and the comfort of the mattress cradled my body. Earlier, Emily and I had spent some time preparing for tomorrow's classes, organizing our notes and textbooks, and setting out our outfits for the next day. I had laid out my law books and notebooks on my study table, and Emily had done the same with her literature texts. We had also double-checked our schedules, making sure we knew exactly what time our classes started and what we needed to bring.

Now, as I closed my eyes, letting out a gentle sigh as my muscles relaxed, releasing the tension of the day, I felt a sense of satisfaction knowing that we were ready for tomorrow. The room was quiet, with only the occasional distant sound of laughter or footsteps from the hallway breaking the silence. The air conditioning hummed softly in the background, maintaining a comfortable temperature in the room.

I felt my eyelids growing heavy, and my breathing slowed as I drifted off to sleep. My mind began to wander, replaying the events of the day. I thought about my excitement to start law classes, Emily's friendly demeanor, and the cozy atmosphere of our room.

"Goodnight, Emily," I murmured, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Goodnight, Luna," Emily replied, her voice soft and gentle. "Sweet dreams."

I smiled, feeling a sense of contentment wash over me. As I slipped into a peaceful slumber, I was vaguely aware of Emily turning off her e-reader and settling into her own bed. The soft glow of the moon outside our window cast a gentle light on our faces, and I knew that tomorrow would bring new challenges and opportunities, but for now, I was exactly where I wanted to be – in my new room, with my new roommate, and surrounded by the promise of a new beginning .

Next morning , I woke up to the sound of Emily stirring in her bed, the morning light peeking through the curtains. We had a busy day ahead of us, with lectures starting at 9 am. I stretched my arms and yawned, feeling a bit more refreshed after a good night's sleep.

"Morning, Luna!" Emily said, her voice cheerful as she swung her legs over the side of the bed. "Ready for breakfast?"

"Yeah, I'm starving," I replied, throwing off the covers and getting out of bed. We quickly got dressed and headed to the canteen, which was conveniently located on campus. As scholarship students, our meals were taken care of, and we could get breakfast, lunch, and dinner from the canteen.

As we walked in, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods filled the air. We joined the queue and waited our turn to order. When it was our turn, Emily opted for a bowl of oatmeal with fruit, while I chose scrambled eggs with toast.

"I'm so glad we have this scholarship," Emily said, as we found a table by the window. "The food here is amazing, and it's such a relief not to have to worry about meals."

"I know, right?" I replied, taking a bite of my eggs. "It's one less thing to stress about, and we can focus on our studies."

We chatted about our plans for the day, discussing our lecture schedules and assignments. As we finished our breakfast, we headed off to our separate classes. I had a law lecture on contracts, while Emily had a literature class.

"Have a great day, Luna!" Emily called out, as we parted ways. "Good luck with your lecture!"

"You too, Emily!" I replied, smiling. "Let's catch up at lunch!"

I made my way to the lecture hall, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation. It was going to be a busy day .

As I walked into the lecture hall, I felt a mix of excitement and nerves. This was my first law lecture, and I was eager to dive into the world of contracts. The professor, a middle-aged woman with a warm smile, introduced herself as Professor Thompson and began to outline the course structure.

The lecture flew by in a whirlwind of notes and discussions, with Professor Thompson expertly guiding us through the complexities of contract law. I was engrossed in the material, and before I knew it, the morning session came to a close.

I met up with Emily in the canteen, and we sat together for lunch, discussing our morning classes.
"Hey, how was your literature class?" I asked, unwrapping my sandwich.

"It was lit!" Emily replied, rolling her eyes. "The professor is really passionate about the subject, and the class is really engaged. I'm just worried I'll get lost in a sea of poetic metaphors."

I chuckled. "Well, at least you'll have a treasure trove of iambic pentameters to draw from. What about the professor's fashion sense? Did she rock the cat-eye glasses and tweed jacket combo?"

Emily giggled. "Actually, she did! I think she's secretly a 1950s English professor trapped in a modern body."

As we ate, we chatted about the facilities and staff on campus. We were both impressed with the resources available to us, from the well-stocked library to the friendly administrative staff.

But as we discussed our scholarship, our conversation turned to the challenges we have to face .
"I'm worried about the extra charges," Emily said, frowning. "Our 50% scholarship doesn't cover everything, and we have to pay for trips, purchases, and other expenses out of pocket."

"Tell me about it ," I said, sighing. "I'm starting to think I should just sell my kidney on the black market to cover the costs."

Emily laughed. "Well, at least you'll have a cool story to tell at parties. 'Hey, remember that time I sold my kidney for tuition?'"

I smiled wryly. "Yeah, and I'll have a great scar to show for it too."

As we finished our lunch, Emily and I parted ways, heading off to our afternoon classes.  I was going to make the most of this opportunity, and I would find a way to make it work, no matter what. "Don't worry, mom and dad will help me out," I murmured to myself , trying to sound confident. But as I said the words, I couldn't help but wonder how they would actually help. Would they be able to cover the extra expenses? I pushed the thought aside, focusing on the present moment.
