When he stared at her expectantly, waiting for some sort of response, she didn't know what to say. Her heart thumped erratically against her chest and she felt trapped under his hawk-like gaze, the intensity in them unnerving her.
"I have a boyfriend," she blurted out in panic.
"What did you say?" It sounded more like a growl and when her eyes met his, she took a step back in disbelief, amazement, and fear. It looked like they were on fire- amber flames spiralling in them, the chocolate brown barely visible.
"Your eyes..." she whispered more to herself, shaking her head to see if she was imagining it all.
He cursed under his breath and looked away before facing her again. This time his eyes were the familiar chocolate brown but they weren't warm. She flinched and moved her gaze to the floor to avoid the tears that were threatening to spill.
"Listen here, darling. I don't care if you had a boyfriend." He pushed her against the wall, and when she tried to escape, he grabbed her wrists, pinning them on either sides of her face. She felt the softness of her curves mold to the hardness of his body. His teeth grazed her earlobe, causing havoc in her stomach and she shuddered involuntarily. "You're mine, only mine. I'm going to be the only hand you need to hold, the only lips you ever kiss, the only arms you wish to be in, and the only soul you want to make love to."
His words did something to her but she couldn't quite decipher the meaning. Her heart and mind felt conflicted.
"Do you understand?"
Her breath hitched in her throat, and she gulped audibly, feeling the hot tears freely roll down her cheeks. "Let me go home, please?"
His face softened, and she wanted to melt in his arms when he wiped her tears with the pad of his thumb but she couldn't.
He was not only her kidnapper but he was also different from her, his amber eyes were a dead giveaway.
"To your boyfriend?"
She nodded shakily.
He trailed his thumb down her cheeks, tracing her bottom lip. "Ask me something else, I'll grant you but I can't let you go."
"No, that's the only thing I want." She pushed him away, rather harshly, and he stumbled back, caught off guard.
"Yeah? So where was this boyfriend of yours when you were roaming the streets with a suitcase?" He settled on the bed and cocked a perfectly arched brow in her direction, a chuckle escaping his lips.
"I-I...Well, I was going to his house when y-you jumped out of nowhere like a-a freaking monkey and kidnapped me!"
"Forget your boyfriend. You are mine and you are not leaving this place ever."
"You can't do this to me. I'll call the police."
"Go ahead if you have a phone." He smirked.
Anaya was fuming now, all traces of fear gone. She didn't know where her phone was. He probably took it from her belongings so that she wouldn't be able to contact anyone. She marched towards him, her hands itching to slap the smirk off his face but just as she raised it in the air, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her down. She squeaked, her eyes widening in horror as she landed on his lap. He wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his chin on her shoulder.
"How dare you! Let me go!"
Wincing inwardly, he let out a sigh. "Okay, let's make a deal?"
He remembered the flutter of longing and desire that had gripped him the very moment his eyes landed on the stunning woman in the bar. The image was still so vivid and clear in his head. Human or not, he knew he had to make her his right there and then, and even his wolf was eager to claim her. She swayed like a goddess on the dance floor, and her red bodycon dress did everything to make her more enticing. He wanted to run his tongue across the curve of her neck to the swell of her breasts, and down to her round hips and shapely legs, but he couldn't—not when every other man in the room was ogling her like a piece of meat. Protective instincts kicked in, and he wanted to kill those bastards, but he settled for a glare, which worked right away. After all, he wasn't the Alpha King for no reason.
That was when he realized how much she meant to him. His mate. He wanted to pursue her, to do all the cliché things a guy did for his girl. But given her circumstances, kidnapping her from the street seemed to be the wisest decision. He couldn't say the same anymore with everything going wrong.
"Um...what is it?" She writhed and struggled in his hold but his grip was firm enough to pause her movements.
"You stay here for two weeks and if you still wish to leave after that, I'll let you go."
She tilted her head to study him. His eyes were closed and his face was scrunched up. He looked like he was in pain for some reason.
She worried her bottom lip as she contemplated his offer for a minute. Either way, he wasn't going to let her escape. So she better agree with him. "Okay, I guess, only if you promise to let me leave after that."
"P-Promise."
She was surprised. So he thought he could change her mind? Well, he was wrong. She would be out of here in a flash. "Well, today is day one, so only 13 days."
"We will see." He waved her off like he didn't want to be reminded of it. "What's your name?"
"You don't know? Why the hell did you kidnap me then?" she asked him incredulously.
He leaned his face closer and planted a kiss on the side of her head. "Because I like you."
"You like me?" Her voice was barely audible. Something flipped within her at his words and she wanted to hear him say it again.
Jesus, what's wrong with me?
He hummed in response, his eyes warm as he stared down at her. "I like you a lot."
"Anaya, uh, my name is Anaya Bloomfield."
"Alright, my sweet Anaya." He cracked a smile. "I'll have to leave now for some work. See you later?"
She nodded and took that as her cue to slip out of his lap.
"I'll get someone to bring your suitcase, so you can unpack and settle down, okay?"
She nodded again.
"And yes, I have my eyes everywhere."
She didn't know what he meant by that. She wanted to ask him but before she could open her mouth, he was already gone, slamming the door shut behind him.
Letting out a breath, she slumped on the bed and closed her eyes, hoping this was just a dream. But the reality hit her hard and everything came crashing down. She was not going to meet Laura, Diya, and Megan ever again. The coming Sunday she wouldn't be able to visit Aunt Anita. And her job was gone too.
He said she could leave if she wanted to after two weeks but she couldn't trust his words. He was handsome but that didn't mean he couldn't be a psychopath killer. She needed to find out his motives because who knew what he was capable of?
If she didn't escape fast, she was going to be trapped here. The thought gave her chills and she buried her face into the pillow with a muffled cry.
There was a knock on the door and Anaya's head shot up to see a lady enter inside. She quickly wiped her eyes and gave her a tight smile.
She looked at Anaya with concern. "Are you okay, ma'am?"
"Yeah," Anaya lied. She wanted to tell the old lady everything and see if she would help her leave this place but she couldn't risk it.
She smiled politely and placed her suitcase near the closet. "Do you want me to unpack it for you?"
"No, thank you. I'll do it."
The lady nodded and was about to leave when a question popped up in Anaya's head and she stopped her. "Were you kidnapped?"
The lady frowned at her. "Why do you ask ma'am?"
"Listen, you can tell me. I'll help you escape from here."
She shook her head. "I work here willingly and al-sir pays me very well."
"Oh! Is there someone who was brought here forcefully?"
"Sir is a good man, ma'am. He would never do such things." The lady turned around and left, leaving her in shock and befuddlement.
Oh please. Good man, my ass!
