As the freyjas are pulling the carriage. Mantas wasn't getting motion sickness like before. He is able to talk with Lexi this time.
They talk about the same idea they have about selling meals when in town. They argue about what type of meals they should sell and how much they should charge for them. Mantas wants to sell it for a lot, but Lexi reasons it for a lower price. They are travelers. People won't buy a pricey meal from a source they don't know. She adds that they can sell small breads at the same or higher price as the meals. People who have extra coins can buy bread and meals.
Mantas thinks that over. They could sell soup. He tells her of that idea. She agrees. She will get the raw ingredients as it's cheaper that way. She starts using her skill to look at the possible ingredients. She puts the vegetables, soup broth, and chicken in the online cart. To draw less attention, she orders the small breads that she had ordered for dinner last night. She thinks sliced bread could cause people to talk about it, as it's sliced with a machine from her world.
She will pay and buy everything once they stop. She doesn't know what will happen if she buys it now as they are traveling. All the food could appear and smack right into her at the speed they were going, or second possible thing the food could appear in the place they were in when she pressed the screen to buy it, meaning they would lose it all.
Lexi asks more about this world. Asking if there are nonhumans. Mantas informs her that there is. All the nonhumans are in the demon kingdom. Many of which, shouldn't be trusted. Many are downright dangerous to be around.
She wonders if it's a trope in many fantasy media where humans hate anything that isn't human or that is true of this world. She will find out later once they run across any.
They start to slow down as a town gate comes into view. Lexi tries to look at the upcoming town. She wants to see what it looks like and what kind of people are there.
The freyjas had to stop, as there is a line into town. Mantas has a worried look. He is thinking that word has reached the town and is looking for him. He pulls up his robe hood and tries to hide.
“What are you doing!?” She looks at him like he is crazy, trying to hide visibly and ridiculously. He is trying to hide in the seat and sinking.
“They might be looking for me!” He is trying to be quiet. “They might have gotten word about what I had done to the king.”
Lexi looks to see if the guards are looking at people. The guards are not doing much, they are just talking to people that are on foot or in the coachman's seat. Either they hadn't gotten word yet, or the guards were lazy. They are collecting payment into the city if people do not show a wooden thing. She can't tell what the wooden thing is. “It looks like they are not checking people. People are paying to get in if they don't have a wooden thing.”
At her saying that, Mantas relaxes. “The idiotic, lazy king hadn't sent out the wanted posters.” He knows places can get them in less than a day with the carrier birds they have.
They get closer to the gate. Amor asks them for money. They need payment to go in. Lexi gives him more than enough coins and tells him to keep the coins. He tries to give her back the extra coins, but Lexi refuses. She tells him that they are equal here. He is surprised by that. He smiles and nods.
They reach the guards. The one guard looks at Mantas like he knows him. Both of them open the door. Mantas looks like a kid with his hand caught in the cookie jar. The guard yells out to the other guard to look.
“He looks familiar.” He tries to look at Mantas while Mantas is trying to hide his face.
“Isn't he the Kingdom's mage? Didn't you think he was a lady and wanted to date him?” He laughs at his fellow guard's mistake.
The other guard's cheek goes a soft pink color. “Hey!” He punches the arm of the other.
He laughs, even at the pain of getting punched. He closes the door and gets the payment from Amor. They are let through the gate.
