Chapter 4
Once they all got back to the school, they went right to the study. Jackson insisted Sylvan followed them, and showed him the new discoveries they made.
“Isn’t it not good that the gods will destroy this world,” Sylvan asked,
“Not at all.” Jackson said,
“It was a rhetorical question.” Sylvan said
Samuel showed him the new runes, “It isn’t, but if we teach Jackson his powers, and learn how to use those powers to our advantage we could stop the gods from doing so. The gods aren't all powerful beings, they all specialize in a certain skill and have profound abilities in it.”
Sylvan looked skeptical about the idea, “So they aren’t gods?”
Jackson shook his head, “No they are, they’re immortal and all that but they can be stopped.”
Samuel was messing with his walking stick, and he had a light shining over some papers. “Hey Sylvan, do you have any of those crystals from the crystal forest?” Samuel asked.
“Ya, why?” Sylvan asked, he held one out.
“Can I have it?” Samuel asked.
“Sure,” Samuel took the crystal from Sylvan. “So anyway, gods can be killed?” Sylvan asked.
“Well, no. They’ll just be reborn in the gods' dimension, but they will always return to this one.” explained Jackson,
“Vwala!” Samuel said, and turned toward Jackson and Sylvan. He was holding his old walking stick, but it had the crystal Samuel had asked for.
“What did you do with the walking stick?” Sylvan asked,
“Well Charles got me thinking about the imbuement thing that the gods did to Jackson, and how Jackson said that we might be able to do it as well. I think I’ve found a way to do it. Everyone steps back.” Samuel cast his void spell, which gave him his magical ability. He gestured toward the crystal, and put the void into it. The wood of the staff then started to grow around the crystal, and mold with it. “As I said before, Vwala!”
“Cool! So this thing is exactly like my armor right?” Jackson said, pointing to his gauntlet.
“Yes, kind of. It’s imbued directly with the void, so it’s able to help me cast magic.” Samuel explained.
“So how will this help us?” Jackson said,
“You have a whole crazy god thing going. I need something as well, and I think this is it.” Jackson was impressed with Samuels automatic love for the idea of the gods, and he couldn’t wait to test this out.
“Well remember this is all the time you have to test these out, then tomorrow you have your first classes remember?” Sylvan said.
“Right.” Jackson said, and turned to Samuel “Even more reason to train.” Samuel smiled.
They had gone back to the field they had been at before, and brought Mohan with them.
“Training, the most important part in learning magic.” Mohan mused,
Jackson smiled, “Training, also the most important part in beating up a bunch of controllers.”
“Not wrong,” Mohan said, “We will be focussing on light magic, and how to use it. We will also be trying staff and wand magic. Now light magic is all about purity, and health. You must focus on these things for casting the spells.” Jackson nodded, for Mohan to continue. “Samuel, would you like to demonstrate?”
“As long as I can use my wand.” Samuel smiled, and Mohan nodded. Samuel held out his newly crafted wand, and shot a blast of light. Samuel looked at his hands, “I didn’t even feel any mana drain.”
“That’s because you didn’t have any, when you cast a spell with a wand or staff you channel the magic through it and not yourself. Making the mana cost less, staffs reduce seven mana and a light blast costs about six.” Mohan explained, “Now Jackson.”
Jackson summoned his gauntlet, and pointed it to the distance. He focused all of his strength to his hand, but nothing came out. He sighed in anger.
“Try again.” Mohan said,
Jackson looked back up, and shot out a blast of energy. He looked at his hand, and smiled.
“Good, good.” Mohan said, “Now let’s try a staff spell,” He created an illusion of a spell that supposedly shot a blast of energy. “Using kinetic energy you will cast a blast of energy from the staff.”
“Totally easy,” Samuel said sarcastically, he held out the staff and moved it around and sent a bolt of magic out of the staff. “Actually kinda easy.”
“Cool.” Jackson said.
“Ok, now Jackson. You are going to cast an earth spell.”
Samuel looked at Jackson, then they both looked at Mohan. “What?”
“I’ve been doing research on clerics and clergy, supposedly you can cast earth and light spells.” Mohan shrugged, “Cool right.”
Jackson looked at the ground, and looked at Samuel. “Can I have some help?” Samuel came over.
“Ok, so what you're going to do is send your energy through the earth and summon an item. It’s up to the magic to decide what kind of weapon.” Samule said,
Jackson nodded, “Alright, easy.” He put both hands on the hands, and sent his power through it. He waited for a response, and a hammer appeared in front of him. It was a kind of warhammer you could say. “Ok, cool.” Samuel threw the hammer away, and turned around. “What now?”
“I’m going to teach you some more magic, try this.” Samuel created a shield of light in front of him. “It’s called shield, just imagine what shape you want it in.”
Jackson nodded and focused on a large dome shape, and he created just that. The light was molded into a dome over all of them.
“Nice.” Samuel said,
Mohan looked pleased, “Alright, now we have to do something you might not like.”
They both looked at him questionably, “What are we doing?” Samuel asked. A huge illusion was created, making a dome and a circle.
“Your fighting, you must push each other out of the circle. If somebody gets hurt they tap out.” Jackson looked at Samuel, who looked back. Mohan was going to make them fight? “Three rounds, then you’ll be fighting something else. Ready.” Jackson pulled out his armor, all of it. “Set.” Samuel pulled out his staff. “Fight!”
Jackson took the first attack, running at Samuel to try to punch him. Samuel ran out of the way, and shot a blast of light at Jackson. Jackson wasn’t able to dodge, and was hit on the side. Not much damage, but still damage. Jackson couldn’t grab his combat knife, because it was in his armor. Instead he summoned a rock hammer, and slammed it into Samuel. He was pushed into the side of the dome, he got up fast. Samuel summoned a chain of water, and swung it at Jackson. He took a hit straight to the side and even in his armor was hurt. Jackson got up and rolled his shoulders back, he shot Samuel with a light blast and missed. Samuel started running along the side of the dome, and summoned four fire spirits as he did. He held his staff in one hand, and casted a spell that shot one of his fire spirits at Jackson. Jackson defended with his light shield, and shot a blast of light at Samuel. Hitting him directly, and causing Samuel to fall. Samuel got up immediately after, and summoned a fire sword, and disappeared. Jackson was hit in the back by a flame, he turned around to see Samuel. He held out his hand.
“I’m not going to knock you out, but can we say we need to practice more?” Samuel said,
Jackson nodded, “Right after I take a 50 year nap.”
