Charley's P.O.V.
Charley's Condo, 5 A.M.
I fought the coming hangover as I stumbled down the hallway to my living room. I would have been fine right now if I hadn't drunk last night. Now I have to get ready for work while feeling like trash. I walked into my kitchen and started a cup of coffee in my coffee maker.
Flashback
Last Night
I sat across from the purple-eyed man as he ate his dinner. “So tell me about you and who you are exactly.” I have known this man for three days now, and all I know is his name and his family. Besides that, I know nothing. It's strange, getting engaged to a man whom I hardly know, but after what I went through, it was nothing but a reminder that marrying this man was not terrible.
“I am Sang-ook Bin, age 32. I like reading novels and watching romantic comedies.”
“What type of books do you like to read?”
“Funny enough, romance. I would call myself a bit of a hopeless romantic. Enough about me, tell me about yourself?”
“I am Charley Wolffe, age 31, and I like exploring new hobbies and designing clothing.”
“Charley Wolffe, that is a unique name.” I chuckled before pouring myself a glass of wine.
“Yeah, honestly, it's something people do not expect when I tell them my name.”
“It's a beautiful name, though.” I looked at him and lifted my glass.
“You're sweet,” I said before pressing my lips against my glass. He poured himself some wine.
“How can I not be? Especially to a woman whom I am soon to marry.” He said before he set the bottle down. I took a drink. ‘“Your cooking is absolutely delicious, by the way.”
I set down my glass and looked at him. “Thank you.” He began to drink his wine. “Be careful. It has a 17% alcohol content.”
“I will be fine, but what about you?” He said with worry in his eyes. I chuckled before taking another drink. I set my glass down.
“I will be fine.” I felt excitement in me grow. They say that you can always hear the truth from a person when they are drinking. I wonder what Sang-ook will say. Will he expose his cover, or will he show that who he is showing me now is really him?
Now
I was wrong. I drank a few glasses last night to get Sang-ook's same personality as normal. I took a sip from my coffee mug. I should have known that after a few glasses, I would be out. What happened to me? I used to be able to down a few of those without a problem. I walked into my living room area to see, to my surprise, that everything was cleaned up and organized.
My eyes widened in shock. How did I miss this? My eyes stopped on a piece of white paper with black writing on it, sitting on my coffee table. I walked over to it and picked it up. I read the note.
“Charley, I had to go to work, but I feel glad that I was able to spend time with you. I hope that things are well. When you leave work, call me. I hated the fact that I had to be separate from you just in case Jocelyn came back, but after a talk with Janie and confirming that she will be visiting you this morning, I felt better.”
Janie is visiting this early?
I heard the sound of someone unlocking my door. I looked at the door to see if it was opening. Coming inside were Cher and Janie. As the two saw me, their eyes widened. They rushed to me. “Charley, what happened?” Cher asked.
“Jocelyn did this right? Sang-ook said you two fought, but I didn't expect this.” Janie said.
“Jocelyn did this?” Cher asked with anger. I nodded.
“She did,” I responded.
“I hope you beat her ass,” Janie said.
“I did. I gave her two black eyes.” I said.
“What made you two fight? I mean, after all this time of what she has said or done, I am surprised you two fought.”
“She ran into Aman and slept with him.” Cher and Janie gasped.
“Why would she do that?!” Cher asked.
“I know exactly why. She wanted him back in high school, remember?” Janie asked Cher.
“No, it has to be more than that. It's because Charley hasn't been giving that desperate bitch the attention she wants.” Cher said.
“Listen, it's over. For now, I have to deal with the stress of moving out of here.” Their eyes widened.
“Moving out? You moved here in January.” Janie said.
“I did, but I think it's time to move. Jocelyn found this place, which means no peace. In the meantime, I have to find out how Jocelyn found my address.”
“She probably asked your aunt Ophelia or something,” Janie said.
“No, she may have snuck a peek at your address from Auntie Ophelia's Christmas gifts for you,” Cher said.
“Damn, you're probably right,” I said.
“So you're moving. Where are you moving to? Especially this fast after the incident? If you don't have an idea yet, you can always stay with me and Hatem.” Janie said.
“Or me, Carson, and Zoey,” Cher added in.
“I'm moving in with Sang-ook.” Their eyes widened.
“The rich man from the ball?” Janie asked. I nodded.
“I am”
“Are you two dating?” Cher asked.
“Don't tell Mom and Dad yet, but we are engaged.”
“Engaged?! So soon? Did you two fall for each other that fast?” Cher asked.
“I have a plan, and you two will find out about the rest soon. I am just asking that you both support me.” The worried expressions stayed on their faces. “I promise that I know what I am doing. Tell me, when was the last time I did something stupid?” They opened their mouths. “Besides my engagement now and anything to do with Jocelyn.” Their mouths shut. “Okay, just support me, okay? By the end of the week, I will tell Mom and Dad. They may be pissed, but believe me, in the end, it will be worth it.”
“Mom may be happy. Did you know Mom and Dad knew each other for four days before Dad popped the question?” Janie and I's eyes widened.
“What?!” We questioned. How come my parents never told me this? They told me how they met, of course, and everything that happened in between, but they made it sound so spaced out. Not that this all happened in the span of four days?!
“Yup, and forty-five years later, they are still happily in love.”
“Wow, maybe I am not so different from Mom and Dad,” I said.
“Well, you are their daughter,” Janie said. I chuckled.
