Chapter 1 – The Crimson Morning

The demon realm knew no dawn, only the ever-burning sky of crimson — a sky pierced by twin suns that never set, casting their blood-red light across a world forged in flame and shadow.

Their rays filtered through the narrow slits of the servant quarters, falling upon the pale cheek of a sleeping boy.

Leo, just eight years old, stirred as the warmth hit his face. He groaned softly, turning away from the light, clutching the thin blanket closer. But sleep, like peace, was brief in the Demon King's castle.

He sat up, yawning.

That’s when he saw it — a folded parchment lying beside his rough straw mattress. The seal was already broken, and the handwriting was all too familiar: quick, messy, full of life.

He unfolded it and read aloud in a soft whisper:

> "Dear brother,

Today I’m getting my knight approval ceremony.

Unfortunately, you’re not allowed in.

A smile lit his face.

Lera — his elder sister, his only family in this cold, towering world — was finally going to be officially knighted. She had worked for this day for years, trained harder than most, her blade as fierce as her spirit. And though Leo couldn’t be there, he was proud — truly proud.

He held the letter to his chest for a moment, then tucked it into the small leather pouch he always wore at his side.

The castle bell rang — sharp and commanding.

His day had begun.

Like all days, it was filled with endless errands: scrubbing enchanted marble floors that whispered secrets, carrying steaming buckets into the kitchens where infernal stoves roared, polishing armor that would never be his to wear. Leo moved quickly, silently — one servant among many, unseen by nobles, unnoticed by knights.

But today, there was a skip in his step. His sister was becoming a Royal Demon Knight — one of the realm’s elite.

Even the weight of servitude couldn’t dim that thought.

Night crept in — not by darkness, but by silence. The crimson sky faded into deeper shades of blood, and the castle quieted.

Leo returned to the servant quarters, tired but expectant.

He opened the door.

Her bed was empty.

The blanket untouched.

His heart thudded. He waited. Maybe she was delayed. Maybe the ceremony ran long.

An hour passed. Then two.

He couldn’t sit still.

He ran through dim corridors, dodging nobles and guards, until he reached the barracks and found the only soul he trusted — Captain Kael, a scarred veteran, and one of the last demons in the castle who still held honor in his heart.

“Captain!” Leo called, panting. “Have you seen my sister? Lera? She was at the ceremony, right?”

Kael’s expression tightened — subtly, but unmistakably.

He knelt down, lowering his voice. “Leo… your sister… she never arrived at the ceremony.”

Time stopped.

“She… what?”

Kael placed a heavy hand on the boy’s shoulder. “I sent a scout to check. She left her quarters this morning, but… no one’s seen her since. And no one is allowed to speak of it.”

Leo’s throat tightened. His eyes burned, but no tears came.

He had nothing. No parents. No magic. No name. No future.

Only her.

And now… not even that.
