In Game : The Beta Tester in Another World

I am but Different

I am but Different

Jul 31, 2025

As soon as we stepped into the cafeteria, my mind went blank in awe.

It's huge!

The ceiling opened up to reveal a stunning glass roof, through which the vibrant blue sky and wispy clouds could be seen outside the campus building. The ceiling was gracefully curved, supported by sturdy dark wood beams that added a warm, rustic charm to the modern design.

All over the expansive cafeteria, long white marble tables were suspended with nothing…no legs. I confirmed this after running my hand under "Neat."

"Isn't it?" the student with blue eyes asked. It turns out that his name is Nace, a son of a guild master and our class representative.

"It is," I muttered, noticing the open kitchen and the cooks and chef busy preparing meals for the students lined up alongside the cafeteria.

If it is anything like the game, foods prepared by chefs who are mages should yield buffs and whatnot. But that is on rare occasions that they are mages, or if they would consume mana to feed bratty children.

The only really thing that connects this world to the game so far is the culture and history. That being said, the magic should still work the same…and since I am who I am in the game, I patted the pockets of my robe, feeling my guild license, 'I should be able to use magic.'

It wasn't long before it was our turn to get our food. A lady wearing a white apron scooped up what seemed to be corn, cheese, and a thick slab of nicely charred meat.

Soo-ah would love this. I chuckled despite the pang in my heart.

We took the tray of food along with a glass of water and soon found a seat close to the windows that opened onto a field of grass, where we saw magicians practicing their spells.

Students wearing burgundy uniforms, waving their wands to shoot whistling wind spells and popping fireballs at target dummies. A couple of students are swinging their swords around in a pattern, and some are shooting bows and arrows. I find their lack of finesse amusing, as I've grown accustomed to the flashy moves in the game.

"Would you like to practice after this?" Nace asked after noticing my gaze on the mages and their colorful spells.

Should I? This would be an opportunity to confirm whether I am truly who I was in the game. However, I wonder how I would cast spells, since I only had to press a key on my computer to command my avatar.

I looked at my hand, and after thinking about it a bit more, I decided to try it out.

After eating, we headed straight to the training grounds and stood opposite each other.

Nace stood in front of me, pulling out a sword from a pocket dimension shaped like a glove. An item like that costs a fortune—well, no surprise, he's the son of a guild master, after all. Collecting rare artifacts is nothing to them.

"Well then, spare me some slack," he said as he brandished his thin, gleaming saber.

Strangely enough, I wasn't intimidated at all... it's like I've faced so much of this that I'm used to it.

Memories flooded my head as I recalled fighting hordes of goblins with a broken car behind me. This time, my memory wasn't on a screen, but in first person.

"Try not to kill me," I said, unexpectedly confident. I pulled out my dagger.

Cyprus. That's the name of the weapon in my hand—in the game, it was forged in Throamines by a dwarf who used a special metal that grew like a tree. It even sprouted fruits.

Nace glanced at my dagger, a flash of wariness crossing his eyes instantly.

Nace went first.

He kicked up a dust storm as he approached. Then, he subtly shifted his sword angle, dazzling me with a glint of sunlight. For a moment, I was blinded and could only shut my eyes.

Instinct made me jump up just in time to dodge a slice aimed at my torso. My robe fluttered in the air as I aimed my dagger at his wrist after my body rotated midair to gather momentum.

Before the blade could land, he let go of the sword, as his arms suddenly snaked around my dagger. Without a blink, I also let go of my weapon, making a fist towards his chest. It hit him, but not before he grabbed my dagger and sliced some of my hair as I barely managed to dodge.

A bang echoed as Nace took a few steps back... I thought I had hit him, but his left palm somehow blocked it — it looked red.

I, on the other hand, landed on my feet, which made me feel uneasy and surprised. Never in my life have I ever moved like this, but somehow it felt like I'd done it a million times before.

"Nice moves," he said, smiling, barely sweating.

Unlike him, I was panting; my core ached as I felt sore from moving like that rapidly. He was about to move again, but I stopped him. "I don't think I can continue," I said, as I plopped down on the ground.

Immediate concern flashed on his face as his eyes fell upon the bandages around my arms and torso, "You're injured," he said plainly.

I couldn't reply since I don't even know how I was injured; I only nodded.

He walked towards me, his footsteps crunching on the dirt.

That was when I noticed the silence and the gaze of the crowd that gathered around the two of us.

It appears I have been associated with another important figure.

Nace offered a hand, and I took it. I stood up, patting the dust off my back.

"How did you learn to move like that?" He asked as he began to move away from the crowd. I naturally followed as the stares grew increasingly uncomfortable.

Well, days of playtime, I guess.

It's still a mystery as to how, but I can infer that my body — this body — has years of experience, according to my game history. Throughout my time here in this world, I never truly felt anxious.

A couple of times, my mind wandered to my family and their well-being, but I was still as calm as an undisturbed lake, 'Like an assassin that was used to being in similar situations.'

Fortunately, this meant I could be more assured that I was not truly helpless, as my situation had seemed to be.

"I'm a fifth-ring adventurer, remember?"

"It checks out," he said, looking towards the big clock on one of the pillars. "We're on time for our next class."
