It's the day before the delivery to the board and the team was reviewing the rollout prototypes, the animated transitions, nested menus, and schedule overlays glowing on the screen.
Soo-hyun was running the walkthrough, but his usual confident rhythm appeared to be gone.
"...and the real-time confirmation will trigger this, uh..." He stumbled over his words, blinking repeatedly. "widget. I mean overlay. It updates... um..." He trailed off, losing his train of thought entirely.
Min-su's frown deepened. Seo-jin watched him closely, a wary concern on her face. The room waited in uncomfortable silence.
"You alright?" Min-su asked, his voice low.
"Yeah. Just scattered. Didn’t sleep well," Soo-hyun admitted, rubbing his eyes. He grabbed a sip of water, coughed, and tried to push on. "Sorry. Anyway, the confirmation module will trigger..."
Do-yeon stared at him then flashed a look at Seo-jin. The meeting carried on, but the spell of seamless, professional delivery was cracked.
“We need to be ready and well for tomorrow Soo-hyun,” Min-sun said gently. As he finished off his presentation.
“I just need a good night's sleep and some food. I promise I’ll be all set by tomorrow.”
The meeting broke but there was an unease to the room as they all bid their farewells.
The team was delivering their pitch at a hired venue in the heart of the city.
They were all to meet in the lobby a good hour before the presentation would start, heading up to the presentation room only twenty minutes before they presented to set up laptops and table items.
Soo-hyun entered the building's lobby, half-shivering despite the coat he wore. He held a takeaway coffee in a white-knuckled grip, sweat beading on his forehead. The coffee slipped from his grasp, hitting the floor with a loud, wet splat.
Sang-wook, arriving behind him, rushed forward. "Hey—hey, hey, sit down."
Soo-hyun offered no resistance and simply sank to the bench, shaking his head. His eyes were unfocused, struggling to stay open. "I'm okay... I just need a minute."
"You're burning up," Sang-wook said, placing a firm hand on his forehead. "Min-su needs to see this. You can't go in like this."
"No, I can push—" Soo-hyun insisted, trying to stand.
"No," Sang-wook said, his voice firm and final. "You can’t. This isn’t just about you anymore."
He pulled out his phone, already dialing. "I’m calling Min-su. We need to get Hyun-woo in."
