Episode 13

INSIDE - The Ship

They all look towards the hallway, the same one Fenneco exited through and they start walking. After a bit of time, Earl asks a question.

EARL : “So, how do you guys navigate through this?”

DAN : “Huh?”

BENNIE : “Oh! Well, our planet helps, it’s created this set of rules that everyone on this ship follows!”

EARL : “And what’s that?”

BENNIE : “Well— our homeworld allows us to go where we’re thinking! Then we think of a certain amount of steps to get there! Basically..we assign an amount of steps to an area, and when we wanna go there, we think about the place, and we walk the amount of steps we assigned!”

EARL : “That..sounds complicated. Can’t you guys just have everything already built and just walk there?”

Bennie pauses, but then he shrugs.

BENNIE : “I guess that would be easier, but this ship’s just like that.”

DAN : “Yeah..this ship was made EARL-ier.” (He makes another pun, not-so-subtle)

There’s silence.

DAN : “..You guys are no fun.”

BENNIE : “Well—it was grammatically incorrect. This ship was made before we were born—so if you say it was made earlier, that sounds like we had made this ship a few days ago.”

Dan pouts and they continue to walk together.

EARL : “If the only way for someone to go somewhere is to think of it..how’d Dan get in Bennie’s room? And also, how’d you make that hole in the floor when we first met?”

Bennie points his finger up, 

BENNIE : “Well, you guys happened to accidentally trigger a trap that I was trying to make..but it broke. I’ll try to fix that later!”

Bennie is about to answer the first question but then pauses, unsure.

BENNIE : “And Dan got in because–! .. uh. I don’t..I don’t know.” (Bennie thinks, mulling it over) “I suppose it’s possible if the ship would consider feelings over thoughts if there are none..”

DAN : “Haha..uh..yeah. That’s..that’s probably it. I wasn’t..really thinking much.” (He sounds a little sad near the end of this, and he touches his joke book in his pocket)

They keep walking, Earl and Bennie get a sense not to pry. They arrive at the supply room, (Where they had gotten the food), and Bennie pushes the wall, (it forms into a door) allowing them all in. And Bennie shuts the door behind them, again typing into his hologram with his glasses. 

BENNIE : “Uhm..what should..we do now?”

EARL : “I dunno, any games other than Isa here?”

BENNIE : “yeah! I found a bunch! Dan, you wanna choose one?”

Dan looks curious and nods his head.

DAN : “Sure!”

Dan and Earl follow Bennie to the corner which has a nightstand covered in a mini spaceship-covered blue cloth, he moves the bottom to the side to show a pile of boxes, aka boardgames. Such as (Act it! *Charades* Kings and pawns *Chess* Spinner *Twister*). Dan looks at them, and he points to Act it!.

DAN : “What about this one?”

BENNIE : “Sure! Just let me read the instructions—”

Bennie grabs the box and opens it, sitting down on the floor, Earl and Dan sitting down next to Bennie as he takes the instructions and starts to read.

BENNIE : “Soo..we’ll play..by ourselves..uhm..we draw a card, and we act it out..within the time limit..and the others have to guess”

Earl holds up the mini hourglass.

EARL : “Yep.”

Bennie and Dan look at the hourglass.

BENNIE : “Oh! Interesting!” (He looks back down at the rules)”Simple enough. Wanna try it now?” (excited)

DAN : “Yeah! I’ll go first!”

Dan takes the hourglass and just holds it.

DAN : “Now what?”

Earl deadpans at Dan, and Bennie gives a nervous smile, slowly Bennie lowers the hourglass in Dans hand.

BENNIE : “I’ll..explain it again”

A waiting screen of Dan sitting and nodding his head, listening, letters next to him say 

– One explanation later.. —

BENNIE : “Lets start it now!”

EARL : “Finally”

Theres a fighting screen vs the three of them. Some banter in this screen:

EARL : “Sorry guys, but I’m definitely gonna win.”

BENNIE : “Didn’t you say that before with Fenneco?”

EARL : “That’s different. She’s not here right now.”

DAN : “Let’s play! I wanna go first!”

The fighting screen stops and goes back to normal, Dan stands up in front of them and takes a card, staring at it. Bennie hands him an encyclopedia, Dan flips through the pages and looks for ‘bird’, he finds it, giving Earl a thumbs up and Earl smiles.

EARL : “All right..in three, two, one, start!”

Earl flips the hourglass but Dan freezes and has no idea how to do it.

DAN : “Uhm—it’s—” (Gets cut off by Bennie)

BENNIE : “No talking! Act it out!”

DAN : “..right”

Dan looks back at the card and he shoots his arms outwards. Pausing, then facing them down. He keeps doing this. Bobbing his head from here to there. He looks very awkward.

BENNIE : “Uhm, uh—! A plane? No—a robot!”

Dan shakes his head and keeps doing his arm movements, bending his knees a little.

EARL : “A Bird!”

Dan nods and gives a thumbs up.

DAN : “You got it!”

BENNIE : “Awh–what??? Birds flap their wings faster than that I’m sure!”

Earl shrugs.

EARL : “You snooze, you lose.”

He grins and stands up, trading places with Dan, picking up a card.

EARL : “Okay, ready—! watch and learn.”

Bennie focuses on Earl, Dan leans forward, holding open the encyclopedia. Then Bennie flips the mini hourglass. Earl immediately starts to get to work, he drops to the floor, stomach down, he brings his knees to his waist and he pushes himself forward, (He got caterpillar.) Dan and Bennie are totally caught off guard and Bennie starts to rapidly fire answers.

BENNIE : “Bug! Slug! Worm!”

Dan quickly flips through the encyclopedia and searches each page quickly.

DAN : “I know it! I know it!”

BENNIE : “Snake!”

Dan finds the page and lights up, pointing at earl, he shouts the answer.

DAN : “Caterpillar!”

Just then, Fenneco walks in. Seeing Earl on the floor, and Dan shouting Caterpillar. They look at her and they spot someone else next to her. Ryy leans forward and looks into the room

RYY : “Uhm..hi?”
