e sunrise were rather minimal. Aphia looked up at the sky, it was beautiful. She could see the moon shining like a beacon, beckoning her to stay under its lights and not just the moon, she could see the stars shining just as bright. It was a glorious view.
Aphia heard Lizzie step up beside her, “Watching the stars?” Aphia nodded and Lizzie continued, “They’re beautiful. You know, they say that Antheria has the most beautiful night sky. This place isn’t as advanced as other parts of the world. Less pollution. The stars glitter here like no other, I suppose that means we’re closer to nature right? To the heavens?”
Aphia’s lips curled upwards as she replied, “The High Maiden says I’m not from here. She says my hair and eyes look alien. What do you think?” Lizzie looked at her face. Aphia noted the fogged eyes before Lizzie answered, “Does it matter?” Aphia raised an eyebrow and Lizzie continued, “Where you’re from? We’re all just people right? I read books a lot, books from other nations. They speak of people like us, and those other species, Pisaris, I think? And Chatines and the others living together in harmony. When people that are so different can live in harmony, why can’t we? When all the difference is a different color of hair?”
Aphia nodded, she had a point. Of course she did, it wasn’t a hard question to answer. What Aphia really wanted to know is how she ended up here, “But if I really am from a different nation, how did I end up here? On such a secular piece of land?” Lizzie took Aphia’s hand, “It doesn’t matter, you’re here now and you have a new beginning. Don’t waste it, and if you really want to know then I’m sure Lady Leniver will help you.”
Aphia scoffed, “What could she do?”
Lizzie frowned before replying, “They say that Leniver had many names. I already told you, remember? She was born Alya?” Aphia nodded, “They say that she embraced a nameless demeanor. That she favoured those with many names, or no names. If you really want to find out who you were, what better God than the Many-Named God?”
Aphia thought about that. It made sense in theory. Then again, all she had for now was theories. Would the Many-Named God even help her? Who is to say that she hadn’t taken up a new name and abandoned her people for another nameless, faceless people?
