The door to the room opened slightly. Kihyeon, who was inside, tried to close it, but the door was stubborn and hard to push.
“Kihyeon, it’s me,” Tian said, holding the door so it wouldn’t close. Kihyeon released his hand from the door handle and gestured for Tian to enter. Now, two people were settled in the room. The coldness of the room made Kihyeon’s shoulders tremble slightly; he hugged himself with both arms. Tian noticed Kihyeon’s condition. The morning was indeed chilly, but it was unusual for the cold to linger until nine o’clock. Feeling the intense cold himself, Tian grabbed the air conditioner remote and turned up the temperature.
Kriing! The wired analog phone on the head nurse’s desk rang loudly, its sound slipping through the small gaps in the door. Haerin, who was chatting quietly with the administrative clerk, immediately stopped and answered the call.
“Haerin, do you have something to say?”
The call began with the man’s voice sounding interrogative. Haerin didn’t answer right away; instead, he glanced around.
“You’re not here, did you hire someone?” Haerin picked up a nail file and started filing his nails while on the call. The man insisted he answer his question first.
“Yes, I do have something to say,” he replied. Haerin set down his nail file and proceeded to explain everything that had just happened to the man on the other end of the line. He didn’t even skip a single detail.
“That’s basically what happened. Can’t you let Tian go now?” Haerin continued, met with silence from the man.
“Don’t ever let Daehyun or Yejun bother Tian again,” Haerin didn’t receive any response from his last question. Finally, he sighed in defeat.
“All right, Yichen.”
