After what happened in her room, Wynona and Ferris were seeing each other almost everyday. They would go to the park, hangout at the diner, or go to each other's houses. Sometimes they invited their friends, but most of the time they were alone. Wynona enjoyed every minute with Ferris, but she was also a little disappointed. After what happened they never did anything else. They never even talked about it. Wynona wanted to say something, but she noticed whenever she flirted with Ferris he would become a hot mess. His face would become bright pink, he would stutter uncontrollably, and avoid eye contact. It was not what she expected from someone who acted like the "cool" guy. It was adorable, but she could not imagine what would become of Ferris if she brought up their kiss.
She wanted to know what they were now. Nothing was different between them. They still treated each other like friends, but there was a line that they had crossed and Wynona did not want to stay behind that line anymore. There was no reason to. She knew how Ferris felt and Ferris knew how she felt, so why was there a reason to hold back anymore?
Wynona was standing outside of the local mall. She had been going to this mall for years, she knew it like the back of her hand, but this time she was going with Ferris. It felt like a date, but she did not know if it was a date. He was the one who asked her to come, but it was hard to read Ferris when he was not flustered.
As she was contemplating what to do, she saw Ferris in the distance on his skateboard. He was wearing a baggy black long sleeve with a white t-shirt over it, blue ripped denim jeans, a black beanie over his head, and his blue checkered sneakers. He slowly stopped in front of Wynona and picked up his skateboard, placing it under his arm.
Ferris grinned. "Hey, I hope I didn't make you wait long."
"No," Wynona looked Ferris up and down and smiled. "You look good."
Slowly, Ferris's face turned pink and he avoided Wynona's gaze. "Thanks, you too."
She looked down at herself and smiled. She was wearing a dark blue sweatshirt, black jeans, and white sneakers. Very simple compared to Ferris. Still she appreciated the complement. "Thanks."
They walked around for a while. Most of what they talked about was the things they saw. Ferris mostly pointed out all the shops with food, though, which Wynona thought was cute. She had noticed recently that Ferris was a major foodie. Most of what he talked about was food and he was not very picky.
As they wandered, Wynona would take short glances at Ferris's hand. She really wanted to hold his hand, but she was unsure. She was positive there were people from their school and she did not want Ferris to be uncomfortable. Maybe they crossed the line, but she doubted he would want anyone knowing that he was interested in someone like her.
Ferris turned to her as she looked down at his hand. "Hm?" He looked down and chuckled. "You're funny." He looked at Wynona, smiling, and grabbed her hand. Their fingers intertwined and Ferris quickly looked the other way and pointed at another food vendor. "I heard that place is really good, too. Cole had gone with Aimee, and they would not shut up about it."
Wynona wanted to say something, but she was at a loss for words. Her face was extremely hot. She looked around, hoping no one was noticing for Ferris's sake.
"Everything okay?" Ferris asked.
Wynona turned to him, embarrassed. "I am, it's just," She looked around. "What if someone from school sees us?"
He furrowed his brow. "I can let go if you're uncomfortable."
"No!" Wynona's face flushed even more. "I meant for–for your sake, not mine. I–I'm fine."
Ferris looked at her confused. "My sake?" He looked around and then back at Wynona. "I don't care if someone sees me holding your hand, Wyn. If they have something to say then they can say it. I really don't care."
"Oh…" She looked at him, surprised. This was…different.
"Besides," Ferris smiled. "I'd like people to see us."
Wynona widened her eyes. "O–Oh! Wow…" She turned away, smiling. She always found it weird how Ferris could be so bold without realizing it, but be so easily flustered.
They wandered around a while longer before sitting down to eat. Wynona had gotten her food first so she sat alone for a while. With the time to think, she was tired of walking on that line and wondering what everything meant.
Ferris finally came back with his food and sat down across from her. He did not waste any time digging into his food. In fact, it was like he completely forgot Wynona was there.
While Ferris was eating, she was waiting for him to breathe. She waited…and waited…and waited. And then she became impatient. "Ferris, we need to talk."
Ferris finally stopped eating and looked up from his food. "Okay? About what?"
"Everything? Whatever it is that's going on between us." Wynona shifted in her seat. "I–I mean I know you know that I like you. And I know that you know that I know that you like me. Right?"
Ferris did not say anything. He looked lost.
Wynona was becoming frustrated. "I mean, we kissed in my room. We–We made out!"
"I–I know." Ferris's entire face was bright pink and he was looking down at his food. "I do…like you. A lot."
"And I like you a lot." Wynona waited for him to look up, but he never did. She wanted to be mad, but it was too adorable. She looked around before giving up on him to make any kind of move. "Will you go out with me?"
Ferris's head shot up. "What?"
Wynona looked away embarrassed. "Will you…go out with…me?"
"Y-Yeah." Ferris sounded shocked. "I–I want to go out with you."
"So…" Wynona looked back at him. "So we're dating?"
Ferris slowly nodded. "Yeah, like you're my girlfriend now, right?"
Wynona laughed. "Yeah, Ferris, I'm your girlfriend now."
His face slowly turned pink and a large grin grew on his face. "Cool. Does–Does that mean I can kiss you whenever I want? And…hold your hand? And–And call you all the time? And we can go on–on dates?"
"You're so adorable." Wynona laughed harder. "Yeah, Ferris, we can do all of that."
Ferris laughed with her awkwardly. "You have no idea how happy I am." He looked down at his food and whispered something to himself. Then slowly his smile fell into a frown. "Wait…"
Wynona looked at him confused. "What's wrong?"
"I–I…" He trailed off.
"Ferris? Is everything okay?" She asked.
He looked at Wynona with so much panic . "Um–" Ferris quickly shook his head. "Never mind…it's nothing."
Wynona furrowed her brow. "Are you sure? You can tell me if something is wrong."
"I'm fine." Ferris forced a smile. "Just hungry." He pulled his hand away and looked down at his food.
Wynona found that hard to believe, but she did not want to push him like last time at the diner. She slowly nodded and looked at her food. "That's okay. You can tell me whenever you're ready." She started eating, but she could not shake the panicked expression on Ferris's face. Something was wrong and although Wynona really wanted to know, she knew she had to be patient. Ferris would open up when he was ready.
