The elevator doors slid shut behind Furna and Pip as they stepped onto the ground floor. At last, they were back where it had all begun.
Furna scanned the empty room. “Huh? They’re not here yet,” she murmured. “I hope they didn’t run into trouble.”
As if summoned by her words, a wooden door behind them creaked open with a slow, dragging groan.
"Oh," Terrain gasped, surprised to see them standing there. “Looks like we’re all back together.”
Lingering behind Terrain, Furna caught sight of Sky. Scuffed and covered in soot, her steps wavered slightly, as if she might collapse at any moment.
Before Furna could press for answers, a deep grinding rumble rolled through the floor. The far wall trembled as, bit by bit, the tower’s final doors opened. Flooding the chamber with a wave of blinding daylight.
Sky stiffened at the light. Then clasped her hands tightly, steadying herself before taking a shaky breath.
“This is it,” she whispered. “The final trial.”
A silent understanding passed between them.
Then, together, shoulders squared and hearts steady, they headed towards the Arena.
