"C'mooon, just one more round! You said drinks were on the house tonight—*hic.*" Vynx sloshed his near-empty tankard in front of him. He wore a goofy grin as he stared up at the incredulous barkeeper. Downing nearly a dozen mugs of ale was just enough to get him buzzed, and he wanted to ride the high for the rest of the night. After all, he had fulfilled his bounty for the town's mayor, bringing back the head of a particularly infamous Vampire Count and a heavy stash of relics to pawn off. His pockets were once again sufficiently lined, and he was in the mood to celebrate.
"I ain't gonna be responsible for the town's hero getting alcohol poisoning. The mayor would never let me live it down." The weary bartender shook their head and pulled the tin flagon out of Vynx's hand. "Take it easy for the rest of the night, y'hear?" The man shooed him away and turned his back to Vynx to clean off the tankard.
"Spoilsport." Vynx rolled his eyes and pushed himself off the bar. Not like I can get poisoned anyways, he thought, but he relented that walking in a straight line was a little harder than usual. Making his way to his room, he maintained his good-spirited smile as he entered the well-decorated chamber. Free lodgings at an upscale tavern was a rare treat for the hunter, but the mayor did specifically request him to handle their vampire problem. The room included a small fireplace, bearskin carpet, and even a wooden tub in the corner. The mounted deer head and framed paintings on the walls gave it that posh touch that his last few rooms lacked. He guessed that the room was normally reserved for traveling nobles, and at least for the weekend, Vynx could enjoy a sample of that nouveau-riche lifestyle.
His traveling companion had already made herself at home. The first thing Sophia asked when they returned was for the room service to fill up the tub so that she could take a bath. Her body was submerged in the water with only her pale shoulders and head visible against the edge of the tub. Vynx had to wonder if the heat from the fireplace did her any good, or if bathing in hot water even made a difference to a vampire. Surely it had to feel good, otherwise the vampiress wouldn't be soaking in the first place. "Having fun in there? It probably doesn't compare to the bath back at your old place, but eh. Free amenities are free amenities," Vynx chuckled as he plopped himself in the armchair by the fireplace.
"It's nice," Sophia admitted. She opened her eyes and rested her arms on the edge of the tub, propping her chin atop her hands to gaze over at Vynx. The smell of alcohol and stale blood still lingered on the hunter, but she didn't seem to mind. After raiding the Count's manor, they both needed a bath to rinse away the blood and viscera of the Count's undead underlings. "You could join me if you'd like," she added. There was a suggestive glint in her eyes as she watched Vynx stoke the flames.
Vynx raised an eyebrow. Did he hear her right? "And here I was being all polite and keeping my eyes on the fire instead of you." He wasn't going to turn down an invitation to share a hot bath; it would be discourteous to their hosts to waste their water. A few clicks and his belt and boots were off. Next came his jacket, shirt, and pants, all inelegantly left in the armchair while he sauntered over to the bathtub. "Lemme just squeeze in there—damn, this is gonna be a tight fit." Vynx climbed into the tub as carefully as a drunk man could. Water overflowed from the sides, but that was inevitable. As he sank down to sit, he was immediately greeted by the sight of Sophia up close and in his personal space.
"Not even gonna wait to let me get cleaned up?" Vynx joked.
"So you can get dirty again?" Sophia sneered, cracking one of her subtle smiles back at the hunter.
They remained in the tub for another good few minutes afterwards, greedily making out as their bodies remained locked together. Vynx practically had to lift Sophia off of him so she would let him get up. Fortunately, the towels hanging by the fire were nice and warm, and Vynx pulled them over to wrap himself and Sophia up as they got out of the bath. He imagined he'd have to call for a fresh batch of water in the morning, but that would be for Morning Vynx to deal with.
"Well? Are you coming or not?" Sophia strode over to the bed, letting the towel flutter behind her like a cape that just barely covered her shapely ass.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm comin'. Give a guy a break—I knocked back enough drinks to put down an ox," Vynx quipped and bounded over to join her.
"All the more reason you should be well hydrated for the rest of the night," Sophia pointed out. "Although… I must wonder how you taste with all that alcohol in your system."
Vynx canted his head to the side to expose his neck. "Well, you can always get a taste if you want. Just don't blame me if you end up drunk."
"We'll have to test that theory then." Sophia pulled him down on top of her. Her inviting body brought him back into her embrace, and Vynx had a feeling he'd be drained of more than just his blood that night.
