The Marigold Physician

Chapter 17 - Past Midnight

Chapter 17 - Past Midnight

Aug 15, 2025

Robin escorted the two clans out of his mansion before returning to the main living quarters of his mansion. By the time the meeting ended, it was almost midnight.

When Robin went inside his bedroom, Sophie was not there.

“Sophie?” He called out.

Worry started to grow as he did not hear any answer. He tracked her scent and continued calling her until he found her in the library, asleep. She looked so peaceful when sleeping.

Robin sat beside the couch in which Sophie rested. He tucked the strands of hair covering her face and kissed her on the forehead. Sophie felt Robin’s touch and woke up.

“Were you waiting for me?” Robin asked.

“What time is it?” Sophie yawned.

“It’s midnight. Let’s get you to our room.” Robin said.

Robin carried Sophie in his arms and went to their room. Robin stayed in their room, sitting on an armchair, waiting for Sophie to fall asleep.

“Robin?” Sophie said softly. “I know you don’t sleep, but can you be beside me?”

Robin went in the covers of the bed and cuddled with Sophie. She was warm and Robin loved to comb his fingers through Sophie’s long dark brown hair.

“Were you bored? I’m sorry that I held the meeting at night. I’ll try to hold my other meetings in the afternoon.”

Sophie, still in Robin’s arms, said, “It’s okay. I read some books in your library. Have you read all the books in your library?”

“Most of them. Time is faster when you’re reading. Especially when one is a couple hundred years old.”

Sophie smiled. There was a small moment of silence until Sophie spoke again. “I’m sorry, I know you’re just here, but still, I miss you.”

Robin kissed Sophie. “Don’t apologize. I really have been busy. I should spend more time with you.”

An idea lit in Robin’s mind. “Would you like to come with me? Tomorrow, in Mayari Foundation Hospital. I can ask Dani and Zephyr to come.”

Sophie’s eyes opened, interested in the proposition. “If that’s okay with you,” she said.

“Of course. I’d like my clan to be comfortable with you. You are my wife, after all.”

Sophie giggled. “I love you,” she said as she fell asleep in Robin’s arms.

Robin was surprised. That was the first time Sophie said she loved him. Despite not having the ability to sleep, Robin stayed with Sophie and replied, “I love you too.”
