Chapter 5
No time to decide if they were or we're not superheroes, they needed to do this. Tarin ran into the building, finding more and more people. He brought them all to a corner that wasn’t on fire, and was right next to a window. He looked out the window, and waved to Colton to get his attention.
He spoke into his microphone, “Hey, Colton. Second floor, ready?” Tarin spoke into the microphone.
“As ready as I’ll ever be.” Colton said, “Wait, can they hear what we’re saying?”
“Nope, only if we activate it.”
They’d only been superheroes for about a week now, and they were still getting everything under control. This was their first real big rescue.
Colton shook his hands, “Alright I’m ready.” Tarin nodded,
He went to a little girl and what he guessed was her mom, he deactivated muting. “Hey there.” He said, “You're going to be ok, my friend outside is going to catch you. Then he’s going to catch your mom, and everyone in this room.”
The little girl nodded, “Are you a supahero?” The girl was probably only four or six years old, this must have been terrible for her.
“If I say I am, will that help you believe that me and my team will help save everyone in this room?” Tarin asked, the girl nodded. Tarin sighed, “Well then once you're safe I want you to help me with something ok? Just stick around until me and my team have cleared the building, can you do that for me?” The girl nodded, “Oh and keep good care of your mom, parent’s need heroes too you know.” The girl nodded, “Well then welcome to the team, superhero.” Tarin picked her up and carefully dropped her from the building to Colton, who caught her. After that one by one they got everyone out of the building, and once Max had gotten out of the building it collapsed. Tarin made sure no rubble got on any survivors. Once the dust had cleared people started to walk away, others stayed and waited for an ambulance. Tarin suggested they stay sick round until then. Somebody tapped his back, Tarin turned around.
It was the little girl who was smiling, “Thank you, Red Dash.” Tarin started to object but realized that he made a promise.
He smiled, “That’s the best superhero name I’ve ever heard!” He exclaimed.
Aaron tapped his shoulder, “Yo, she gave you a superhero name! Can you ask her to give some to us?”
Tarin nodded, he turned back to the girl. “Hey between you and me, I’m pretty sure my friends here are jealous of the superhero name you gave me.” The little girl and her mom laughed, “So they were wondering if you’d give them superhero names, you know to make it even.” The girl nodded, Tarin walked to Max. “This guy is super strong.”
The girl walked up to Max and looked at his suit, she poked a blue spot. “Blue… Blue Basher!”
Max laughed and jumped into the air, he looked at Tarin. “Tell her I love it!”
Tarin turned to the girl, “He says he loves it so much he could jump to the moon!” The girl laughed, she went over to Aaron. “This guy is super sool, he can do this.” Tarin nodded toward Aaron, Aaron summoned a quick blast of white energy.
“Wow!” Said the girl, “It’s white, White Light!”
“Ooo, tell her I love it!” Aaron said, “I can’t say no to that face!”
Tarin laughed, “He says he loves it, and that he’ll never let go of it.” Tarin walked to Colton, and put his hand on his shoulder. “What about this guy?”
She went up to him and poked his costume, “He have tools?”
Tarin shrugged, “I could always make them for him.”
She looked at Colton, “Green Gadget man!”
Colton laughed, he unmuted his suit. “How about just Green Gadget. I like it, Red Dash, this is your new top priority!”
The girl laughed and moved to Tarin, “Thank you Red Dash.” She hugged him.
Tarin was taken aback, and hugged the girl back. “Of course, it’s what heroes do right?”
They all went back to their home base, and described each of their crazy experiences.
“The pillar almost fell, but I caught it just in time!” Max said,
“I caught multiple people while I was still carrying two others!” Colton said, “Also get me some gadgets. For the little girl.”
“So many people were almost smashed, but I shot a blast of energy at the rocks!” Aaron said.
“Everyone loved us!” Tarin said, “We are superheroes, aren’t we?” They all looked at eachother smiles growing on their faces.
“Yes!” They all screamed.
Being a superhero now was cool and all, Tarin stopped trying to find a way to “Cure” them and started focusing on ways to improve themselves. They created rules for their new superhero lifestyle. One being no identity telling, obviously. Two being no threatening, obviously. Finally three being no identity mix-up. Which is like mixing up what happened in superhero life with what’s in real life, and those were only the big ones. Tarin, and his friends started trying to find out what had affected them. Not for their original purpose, but for the safety of every single person in the city. If people found the thing that gave them powers, and got powers themselves. They might have a few supervillains to deal with, as Aaron said. Tarin said he read too many comics. They had school the next day though and they promised not to talk about the weekend. Once they got to school everyone was talking about the superheroes who saved twenty people from a burning building, and Aaron said this is when it got weird for the superheroes.
They sat at their normal lunch table, but it was different. Tarin, Max, Aaron, and Calton were acting as normal as could be. Eithan and Sorra on the other hand were not. “Do you think Red Dash can go through walls?” Eithan asked Sorra,
Sorra shrugged, “If he could go that fast either he didn’t use it or he doesn’t know he can use it.” Sorra explained. They had a pile of comics on the table, and a computer with a list of superpowers that Tarin guessed were powers they might have?
“So it looks like you guys haven’t slept at all.” Tarin mentioned to them,
Sorra looked up, “Sorry, but it’s hard to sleep when there's a superhero team hiding in plain sight and anyone could find them.” Sorra looked at Eithan, “Have they interviewed her yet?”
Eithan shrugged, “I haven't thought about that.” Eithan went straight to the computer, Tarin guessed he was looking up the girl that Tarin had saved and had given them their superhero names. “She was saved by the ones she called Red Dash and Green Gadget.” Eithan said.
Colton shrugged, “Green Gadget sounds like a weird name, why not choose Green God or Golden Glow for the light one.” Colton smiled at Aaron, Aaron glared at him. Tarin had to silently calm them down.
Sorra squinted at the mention of the name, “White Light, the one who can shoot blasts out of his hands. What else do you guys think he can do? Tarin your the genius, what could a person who could generate blasts of energy do?”
Tarin went silent, then shrugged. “Their powers seem like they're impossible, not even that stupid biotech company can cook that up in that lab of theirs. If you ask me, it's all fake.” Tarin said. Max, Colton, and Aaron nodded in approval.
Sorra shook her head, “Their like, actual superheroes. They can't be fake.”
Tarin shrugged, “Suit yourself.”
After lunch Tarin, Max, Aaron, and Colton met up in an empty corner to talk about this problem.
Max shook his head, “Are we famous? We’re famous.”
Tarin shook his head, “No the superheroes are famous, not us.”
Colton nodded, “Ya, we’re not the famous ones.”
Aaron also nodded, “I agree.”
Max shrugged, “Alright, but we have to play it cool. We must remember the rules of the superheroes, we can’t tell anyone our identity.” They nodded.
Colton turned to Tarin, “How's the gadgets going, my name is literally Green Gadget. I need some Gadgets.”
Tarin nodded, “Ya I know, I already made some.”
“Good.” Colton said,
Max nodded, “So no names.”
Everyone nodded, “No names.” After their little meeting they all departed, and they went to class.
