Chosen Ones: Xeno Force

Chapter 1

Now Tarin Jacobs didn’t think of himself as much of a bragger, but when you save a city from a supervillain who tried to kill not just you but your family, friends. Tarin would consider that a massive victory. In addition to that they had obtained new superpowers, which they were slowly learning. Tarin had learned to faze through objects, like Dr. Méndez had done so during his time as Dark Dash. He’d also been feeling weird around electronics, he guessed because of his energy abilities. His friends had also found new abilities from the “accidental” power giver, which wasn’t so accidental. Colton had been getting weird feelings in his limbs, and since none of them could go to doctors anymore because of their superpowers, Tarin’s mom. Kathrine Jacobs, had been their in house medical professional. Max had found the ability to copy things that people did, once while Colton had been swinging into his hammocks on the ceiling Max saw it and was able to copy exactly what Colton could do within seconds. He said he had no idea how he did that, but that he suddenly just knew how to. It was really weird. Sorra has been able to read people's thoughts, not the most comforting power but it was new. Finally Aaron has the delusion that he can turn invisible.

“What do you mean you were able to disappear and somebody ran into you looking right at you!?” Tarin’s mom yelled at Aaron, them being superheroes had become a part of her life so much now she thought of Tarin’s friends as her own children. At least that's what she said on the way to the base every single day.

Aaron was terrified, “Well, I was walking to the park when I looked at my hand which flickered a bit. I slid away the thought calling it crazy. Then a man walking right toward me, and looking straight at me just bumped into me. He looked around for a bit, and I said that was rude. He said he must have schizophrenia and he kept walking, but when I looked at my hands they were entirely invisible. Now I think I permanently scarred a man from fear.”

Eithan nodded, “This is all well and good, but I’m just going to ask the overwhelming question.”

Everyone looked at him, “Which is?” Tarin asked.

“What happens now! We’ve defeated your arch nemesis and put him in prison, and we already saved the world in our first three years of superheroing. What now!” Eithan looked around the room.

Tarin’s mom and Dr. Myer came into the room, “I’d believe that’s obvious.” Said Dr. Myer, “You continue your work, there’s still plenty of criminals in the city. There’s just no huge supervillain for once. Honestly I think that’s good news.”

Tarin’s mom nodded, “I agree, a world without supervillains around is going to be good for everyone. That means we have a big part of our jobs out of the way, but that doesn’t mean people don’t still need help.”

Just then Sorra came running into the base out of breath, and gasping for air. Everyone just looked at her for a moment, just waiting. Once she caught her breath she apologized for being late, and they asked why she’d been late in the first place.

“Ya… Um, I uh…” She took a deep breath and exhaled, “That’s better, sorry I was meeting up with my girlfriend.”

After Sorra had caught her breath, everyone had questions. It turns out she’d been dating this girl named Lily James for the last few weeks while all of us were trying to discover our powers more. Whenever one of us asked where she was she said not to worry about it, and she made us not worry about it with her mental influential abilities. Which got me thinking.

“I know this is a stupid question to ask, but you haven’t been using your mental influential abilities on Lily have you?” Asked Tarin.

Everyone gasped, except Sorra. “Well, I did try.”

Everyone gasped, again. “Why would you do that to someone you care about!” asked Tarin’s mom.

Tarin sighed, “People have done worse with superpowers in this city, this might be the least most crazy way they’ve used them.”

Eithan looked shocked, “Wait, so you're ok with Sorra mind controlling her girlfriend. Is that what you're saying?”

“Well, no I wouldn’t be ok with that. If you guys were listening though, she said she tried to use her abilities and it didn’t work.” He looked at Sorra, “Now the only question for you is if you're going to tell Lily any of this.”

Sorra looked down, “I was thinking of it.”

“What!?” Said Eithan, “We can’t tell people about our secret identities!”

“Only to those we care about,” Tarin gestured to his mother, “Or those who may be harmed by them.”

Max was nodding, “I agree, telling her would be the best move.”

A light appeared in the back of the room, and Tarin sighed in annoyance. “I don’t want to do this now Samuel.”

“But you know you must.” Said the figure that Tarin had met before, Samuel Knight. Otherwise known as the Master Knight. He walked out of his form of light, and greeted his friends. “A pleasure.”

His friends froze in shock, and all backed away. Tarin saw this and sighed, “This is Samuel Knight, he is an all powerful wizard guy who watches over the universe. He collects data on all people affected by his magic.”

Myer stared at him, “Which includes all of you I presume?”

Tarin nodded, “Yes, as our powers have been developing I have been taking notes and have been waiting for Samuel to come get the files.”

“And I have a little more reason than that, I can not interfere with the people of this world. I need people who can handle the problems of my world in theirs, that’s where you all come in. This is the proposition I told you about Mr. Jacobs.”

Tarin turned around, he didn’t know why but he trusted Samuel. “What?” Tarin said, trying to stay annoyed at the man in front of him.

“Sadly with the saving of the city, there have been many holes in the story I think all of you would love to know.” He said.

His friends jumped in amazement, “You know what’s going on in this city?” Myer asked.

Samuel shook his head, “No, not just this city. The multiverse. The hole in the sky, it wasn’t Méndez. As you all know. I regret to inform you that that was me, and an interdimensional monster but we don’t think of him much anymore.”

“Wait hold on a second, there’s a multiverse?” Asked Aaron, “Like other me’s multiverse?”

Samuel shook his head, “No, there’s other kinds of people. You know one, Dark Dash is no human.”

Max laughed, “Obviously.”

“He was an Elf.” Samuel finished.

“Didn’t expect that.” Max said.

“Somehow he was stranded here, he knew of the multiverse and used its energies to give himself abilities from it. That is also how you got all your abilities as well, you were all touched by a plant that was created by a bit of dimensional energy leaking into this world. It created what you call superpowers, but it only gave you access to certain spells.” Tarin wanted to stop this as soon as possible, but he couldn’t find the right files he promised. “Anyway, there might be monsters starting to attack the city and I need your help with killing them and making sure they're never known of.”

Tarin looked back at him, “How are we supposed to do that?”

“You can control technology, you can delete any footage, and Violet Mind can influence people to think they saw something else. You all are the perfect people for it. Now I must go with the files and leave you all with good news, there is a villain from my world coming to yours.”

“Good news.” Colton mumbled.

“And there is a hero that one of you has met that came from my world.” His eyes landed on Sorra, “I think you can finger out who soon, for now I’ll be going. Good luck heroes!”

Tarin looked up, “Wait but you don’t have the fi…” Tarin stopped when he saw Samuel holding Tarin’s “Hero Files” as he was forced to call them, and exiting their world.

All of his friends looked in his direction, “Care to explain?” Myer asked.
