Chosen Ones: The Final Turn

Chapter 1

Now you’d think fighting a deranged lunatic with overpowered magic would be draining, you’d be right.

Tarin ran through the city looking into the shadows, “Velmora! Where in the world are you!”

“Oh, Red Dash. You know it’s not your turn yet, you're breaking the rules. The game hasn’t even started yet!” Velmora said from the shadows.

“This isn’t a game, and this is childish!” Ever since Tarin and his friends had met Velmora, they had been needing to play this stupid game. They’d been surveying the city and once Tarin had found her he alerted his team, according to the rules they weren’t supposed to be attacking Velmora yet. They were supposed to wait for her, the game she was making them play was also really stupid. It started in one day, but Velmora hadn’t done anything then announced the game had started. They’re new ally, Lily, had explained the rules to them but they kept forgetting. At least Tarin had. Tarin punched at a shadow and hit nothing, he moaned and ran back to home base. Where his super team waited.

If you didn’t already know, Tarin was the “leader” you could say of a superhero team of his friends and other interdimensional magicians. He ran into their base in the middle of the New York city park, and was greeted by all of his friends. Max, aka Blue Basher, the muscle of the team and moral compass at times. Colton, aka Green Gadget, the really athletic one who didn't even mean to be athletic but always worked on his strength and speed. Aaron, aka White Light, the overall air and surveillance who had unbelievable powers. Eithan, aka Crimson Blaze, the really energetic one and fire shooter of the group. Sorra, aka Violet Mind, the ability specialist and one of the strongest in the group thanks to her psychic powers. Lily, aka Luminastra, the spellcaster of the group and connection to the magic world. She’s the one who may have created the supervillain they now faced but they avoided the subject. Tarin’s mom, Katherine Jacobs, their in house medical officer. Finally they had Dr. Noah Myer, their in house science and technology expert.

They all looked to Tarin as he ran into the room, “I got nothing, she seemed like she was two places at once.”

Myer shrugged, “Well, turns out that’s because that’s what was happening. Somehow she’s using her dark magic to do her magic stuff.”

“Very descriptive Myer.” Said Colton jumping onto the ceiling, “So are we telling him or what?”

“Telling me what?” Tarin was confused, for the last… Few years now they’d been focused on being the superhero team, was something catching up with them? “Is it school? Was the computer not working?” Everyone froze.

Tarin’s mom squinted, “What computer?”

Tarin blushed, but walked to the computer. “I created a program to do our homework and tests for us when we didn’t have the time, I made sure somebody always was seeing us. They weren’t of course, but…”

“Tarin, I’ve known about school since I joined this team. No it’s not school, it’s about the supervillain we’re facing. You came into the room just as we were going to go over Velmora” His friends laughed and snickered.

“Oh,” Tarin said, “Then we’re going to need one good superhero-y looking table.” Tarin pressed a button and the floor in the middle of the room started to lower, then an oval in the middle elevated. The floor stopped, and the table turned on. Showing the cool new holographic outline of the city, and a few small stone seats.

All his friends oohed and ahed at his creation, Max sat on one of the chairs. “This is awesome!” He waved his hand over the holographic table, and he moved the map a bit. “Oops, sorry.”

Tarin laughed, “It’s fine.” Tarin took the chair at the front, and held out his hand. Using his technopathy to control the table. “While we’ve been chasing Velmora I’ve been putting in files for, not just the Master Knight, but for us to use for this project as well.”

Max leaned in again, “Do we really trust this Master Knight? I know we’ve asked this a lot but still.”

Tarin waved his hand over the table, and a new screen showed up. The files shared with him from the Master Knight from Hero Hall. “He has given me every file needed to detain the threats to our universe, including multidimensional threats.” Tarin stopped at a small file labeled, ‘Forge Keeper.’ He opened it to show a weird looking creature, its legs had two knees in it. It had horns protruding out of its skull. His friends gasped, Lily yawned.

“It’s a stupid Demon. They live in a dimension that thrives off being ‘important.’ The Master Knight and the greater mage community are voting against the important’s of course, and from what I hear they are being overtaken as we speak.” Lily seemed like she had seen and maybe even killed a bunch of demons, but none of them asked the question.

“Well, either way, these files are giving us every way to try and defeat Velmora before she… Kills everyone? What is she going to do again?” Tarin looked at Lily.

Lily nodded, “This one game we used to play called, ‘Destruction of the City’ we played the first game. You already know the rules to that, and are currently waiting for it to begin. Destruction of the city on the other hand was about good and evil. One side tried to save the sand castles that were built and the other tried to destroy them. Basically if we don’t play this game…”

“We have to play Destruction of the City.” Sorra finished, Lily nodded.

“So we gotta find a way to stop Velmora before it comes to that?” Tarin asked, Lily looked sad and nodded sadly. “Well, let’s call the Knight.”
