Chosen Ones: Forges Secrets
Chapter 1
Varzoth Soulrender was a normal Demon boy, who… Oh right I forgot about that. So hi and yes I am what's called a Demon, big horns, three fingers, a bit short. We all live on an island called Romania, the land of the Demons. My family comes from a long line of Pyromancers, and yes there is Knight’s Magic here. Even before the whole HIM thing, this world has always been unstable with knight’s magic. We’re only able to do fire magic though, and only fire magic. I’ve excelled at it for years now, but still have a lot to learn. You'd think I wanted to be a librarian or a teacher, but no there’s always been one job that caught my eye. In Romania there’s an artifact known as the Heart Forge, nationally it’s known as the forge of fire. It’s able to embed objects with fire magic, and can create items of immense destruction. The keeper of the artifact also is required to have an apprentice, and that person is randomly chosen by the emperor of Romania. Varzoth participated in the lottery, and was excitedly waiting for the results.
“So wait, you literally sent a request to the Emperor. Malgorth the Dreadlord.” His friend Valthrax asked.
Varzoth nodded, “Yep, I have no regrets. I’m just waiting for the news to come around or for the letter in the mailbox. Today’s the final day that the person could get the letter, and I’m feeling good about it.” Varzoth heard his door ring, his mother Orothar answered it. A moment later she came into the room.
“Varzoth, come here somebody’s here for you!” His mother said, Varzoth came to the door to see a demon wearing the Emperor's seal on his armor.
“By order of the Emperor, Varzoth Soulrender shall be put under the apprenticeship of Xaloth Forgekeeper. You have two days to prepare, and are leaving at sundown to the palace.” The Soldier walked away, and rode on his Aracnido. A giant armored spider creature.
Varzoth turned to his mother and father, “I have to pack!”
Two days later he was ready for his trip to the palace, he’d packed all of the essential materials needed for his new apprenticeship. He was practicing magic spells, and studying about the forge. He was so excited for the job he’d been given, the Forge Keepers were a long line of protectors of the Demons greatest treasure. The Heart Forge, they say it was taken out of a magma golem. Nobody really knows much about it though. Either way Varzoth was going to be put in charge of it, after his apprenticeship anyway. He would miss his old life, but that’s how this world was like. Either you stay in the same spot for your whole life, or you rise up into the higher ranks and become important to many people. Varzoth had only packed what he needed, food, books, spells, stuff like that. Stuff that made you important.
His mother entered the room, “How’s packing going, your ride should be here soon.”
“I’m almost done.” Varzoth said, “I still can’t believe I got chosen for such an important task.”
“I know, you’ll be one of the most important people in Romania.” His mother said,
“Especially under the apprenticeship of people like the Emperor and the Forgekeeper.” Varzoth said.
“Yes, you’ll remember us right?” His mother asked,
“Of course, always.”
After him and his family said goodbye he was escorted by many soldiers to the edge of town. They brought him to a carriage, and they told him to relax for the ride to the castle. He did, he slept a lot, he went over his spells, he even sharpened his cuni knife and shortsword. It was a really boring ride, he didn’t really eat anything. Plus all the food in Romania wasn’t all too flavorful, always dry and scorched. Ever since the reckoning, an event that the Emperor tried to defeat. The entire sun started beating down on Romania, and everything died. Only the Demons and the beasts were able to survive. That didn’t matter now though, not anymore anyway. Varzoth put his head on the window, he didn’t want to fall asleep but within seconds he closed his eyes and did just that.
