Chapter 7
Once they woke from their well needed rest, and continued into the unimportant lands. They kept seeing small camps, and avoiding them thinking that they might be important’s camps. Once they got a far distance away from the wall they stopped for a rest.
“So when did you leave the castle again?” Asked Lilith, she’d asked this before.
“Like I said, I left the castle about a month ago. Right after I found out that the important’s were evil.” Varzoth explained,
“So, why are they evil?” Asked Lilith,
“They think certain people are better than others, and with this forge they might have been. Not anymore though.” Varzoth laughed,
“Well, what if they find it? They already know it was you who took it.” Asked Lilith,
“Like I said, there is no possible way that they know where I took it”
Lilith shrugged, “I don’t know, once a guy told me that the emperor was a pretty smart guy.”
Varzoth nodded, “I said that, and yes he’s smart but I was smarter. I outsmarted him.” Varzoth looked to Lilith who was looking into the distance, “What’s up?” He looked too.
“There’s somebody coming.” Lilith got up, and pulled out a spear. There was a person coming their way. Once they got close enough Varzoth noticed him, this was going to be the worst.
Once the person came closer, he looked at Varzoth. He wore a set of armor, and a hood and cape. He was just how Varzoth remembered, but worse.
“How are you, traitor.” Said Varzoth’s old frenemy Karnyx.
Lilith looked confused, “Do you know this guy?”
Varzoth nodded, “His name is Karnyx, he’s an important. He also dislikes me a bit it seems.” Varzoth turned to Karnyx, “We're not giving you the forge.”
“Why did you do this Varzoth? You had everything, and you still stole. Everyone says you're a spy, but I know that’s not true. Not after the hours you spent studying.” Kernyx said.
“Well no I’m no spy,” Said Varzoth, “I am a traitor though. Why are you all planning to wipe out all of the unimportant’s?”
Karnyx shrugged, “We are the superior race, we should be allowed to choose what we want to do with our world.”
“You know how stupid you sound right?” Asked Varzoth,
Lilith prepared to fight, “He couldn’t have come alone.”
Karnyx nodded, “She’s right, I didn’t come alone. Your little girlfriend is very intelligent Varzoth, too bad she wasn’t eligible for being an important because of her track record.” Lilith twitched at the words, “Yes a petty thief, and then banished once she took an entire important’s patrol down.”
Lilith held her spear to Karnyx, “First of all, he’s not my boyfriend. Second of all, I never wanted to be in your little cult-kingdom. What your planning will never be perfect, it’ll just give people like you no control over your own lives.”
“And give them to the Emperor, showing how loyal we truly are. Unlike some.” Karnyx looked at Varzoth and growled.
“So is it loyalty?” Asked Varzoth, “Because if it’s loyalty, then you must be one pretty loyal servant to kill thousands for one person. One who won’t even admire what you did for a second.” Varzoth prepared two firebolt spells.
“The Emperor has a message for you, if you choose to bring back the forge you can return to the Importants.” Said Karnyx, “You know how patient with you he’s being, you know you should take the deal.”
Varzoth shook his head, “Why are you doing this? This shouldn’t be what the world is like.”
“But it is. We must keep it that way, as the Emperor intended.” Karnyx said, he smiled. “He is, and will always be the ruler of the world. Especially when all these unimportants are gone.” Karnys waved his hand in Lilith’s direction.
“The Emperor says we’ll be fine when they're gone, we won’t. He’s going to be taking everything to himself, and leaving all of you with nothing. He takes what they make, and makes it his.” Said Varzoth, he looked past Karnyx to see a small group of soldiers coming over the horizon. “You don’t have to do this.”
Karnyx shook his head, “I do.” He pulled out his sword, and swung at Varzoth. Varzoth quickly summoned a shield of fire, and blocked the attack. He then sent a fire bolt directly to Kernyx’s stomach. Karnyx flew to the hill, but started getting up immediately.
Varzoth turned to Lilith, “We should go.” Lilith nodded, and started running. Varzoth ran after her, and they went to their hoppers. Once they were on their rides Varzoth looked behind him, could he really return? If he did would he be able to call himself an important? No, he had gone too far. He had the power to change the world, and he wasn’t giving up now. They had finally gotten to the mountains, he could see it in the distance. The important’s were still following them though, they had to hide. “Should we try and lose them in the mountains?” When he looked to Lilith she was looking back, when he looked he saw an army.
“I don’t think we can hide, not for long anyway.” Lilith said,
“Then what? You know this place right? Where should we go?” Asked Varzoth,
Lilith shook her head, “There's only one more place we really can go.”
“Where?”
“The outskirts.” Lilith said,
