Chapter 5
Slowly Varzoth woke, he heard the same sound he had heard before. He saw Lilith’s face looking over his. He heard other voices, some afraid, others angered. He heard important’s, and he heard unimportant’s. Once Varzoth woke fully he looked up to see a stone ceiling, and water being poured into his mouth. He looked up to see Lilith and her canteen. He moved his hand to her shoulder, she jumped. Then looked at him.
“Varzoth? Can you hear me?” She asked.
Varzoth’s head was fuzzy but he was able to get out the words, “Loud and clear.” Before coffing on dust.
“Is the forgekeeper awake?” Another voice came.
“Yes, but he needs rest.” Lilith said. He realized his head was on Lilith’s knee. It was nice of her, but it was uncomfortable. He leaned up, and looked ahead of him. He saw three demons, a little younger than he was. He went to focus his eyes, and saw they were inside of a cage. Multiple guards walking by.
“You know, you’d think being the forgekeeper would get you respect in places. But no.” He looked back at the demons, only to see his sword chained to the wall.
“Is he ok?” One of the demons asked.
Lilith nodded, “He’s usually like that.” Said Lilith
Varzoth did not interject, he was usually like that. He walked to his sword, and it moved. The three demons jumped back, and stared.
“Are the legends are true?” Asked the boy to the right.
“Which one’s?” Varzoth asked.
“You, being the peacebringer of this world. That you will rise to be the Emperor some day.” The boy only looked at Varzoth curiously.
All Varzoth did was shrug, “You can’t judge a time that hasn’t happened can ya. People say that, many do, but I don’t know. After I left the important’s all I think about is the next day with the people I care about.” Varzoth gestured to Lilith, “Like Lilith here, she’s the best friend I’ve ever had. I hope she is for a lot more.”
Lilith stood straighter. “Let us give you the rundown on the situation.” she started, “Apparently this is where all those carriages that carried prisoners went to.” Lilith said.
Varzoth looked outside, past the two soldiers to see a massive mining plantation. “They're trying to get pyromite.” He said, “They're trying to make the weapons.”
“How do you know?" one of the children asked.
“Pyromite is what you use for making incredible items of destruction, just like that sword there.” Varzoth pointed to his blade, “They’re trying to increase their power to kill all the unimportant’s.”
One of the children gasped, “What do you think they’ll do with weapons like that?” The little girl asked.
Varzoth shook his head, “Where are my manners? Probably still stuck in my head huh?” He looked to the three children, “What are your names?” Varzoth asked.
The boys jumped, one of them raised his hand. “I’m Malakath Blackfang, fighter of evil. That’s why I'm here, I tried to stop a cavalry of important’s single handedly. Obviously failed, but that’s not the point”
Varzoth smiled, “Your bravery is incredible.” Varzoth gestured to the other two, and the girl stepped up.
She smiled, “My name is Selene Dreadmist, since I guess we’re using our full names. I am a practicing pyromancer, but when my village was attacked and was taken by all the important’s I was separated and ended up here.”
Varzoth clapped his hands for a moment, “A pyromancer, a skilled one I can tell. You must be incredible in magic.”
She smiled, “I just know the basics.”
The last one came in front and strung a lute, “I am Zaroth Voidbringer, I was actually born to the important’s, they threw me out because of my love of music.”
Varzoth was surprised by this, “They threw you out because you loved music?”
“Well, using knight’s magic. Because our realm is easy to get to, I was able to learn a bit of sound magic. They cast me out, and sent me here.” Said Zaroth, “I was an important, but they are evil.”
Varzoth nodded, “I agree, they have to interest for anything but themselves.” He walked over to his sword, and summoned a fire to burn the chains. He slung the sword into his belt, “I’m guessing they’re not letting me or any of us out of this cell right?”
Lilith shrugged, “Probably not.”
Varzoth smiled, “Then let’s get out of this cell.”
