Chapter 4
Lilith led them through the canyons and made sure to keep Baal confused while getting to the entrance.
“These are very confusing passages, are there any faster ways?” She said to Lilith.
Lilith shook her head, “None that I know of then over them.” Varzoth knew she was lying, there were other clear passages for the people that knew the way in but they still didn’t know if they could trust Baal yet.
Baal nodded, “Ya, it will feel better to be as far away from the important’s as possible I guess.” Varzoth and Lilith looked at each other, and they were thinking the exact same thing. The ‘I guess.’ didn’t she want to be away from the important’s?
Varzoth chimed in, “Ya, we all needed time away from the important’s and Lilith here found a little abandoned village. We decided to move in, and keep the place. It is a really beautiful town, the people are nice, no emperor or anything anywhere anymore. Everything is great.” Baal smiled.
Lilith turned a corner one last time and they saw their growing village, “Here we are.” She said, “Home sweet home.”
It’s probably a good time to mention that the village indeed grew, they had built security walls all around and new buildings of rock. They went towards the town and were immediately let in, Varzoth led Baal to a building he knew was empty because of the library under it. It was considered unsafe, and bla bla. He just got them temporarily set up there.
“So Baal, in the important’s I was a forger. What were you important in?” Varzoth asked. Lilith looked at him surprised, probably because he didn’t go openly talking about his time as an important. He tried to steer away from it mostly, but he’d never had another person to talk about it to. He guessed Baal was the only one he’d really ever get.
“I was a scholar. Scrolls, books. I was looking through a bunch of scrolls when I got the idea of the Emperor having more maniacal plans than we thought. I transferred to the forges and was able to take the forge in time before they were ready to make the obsidian weapons again.” Baal described.
Varzoth remembered it, the obsidian weapons. They were planning on supplying them to they’re entire army to invade on the unimportant’s, aka them. Varzoth looked to Lilith who was standing right next to him, and he meant shoulder to shoulder. Varzoth started bushing again, but ignored it. He was about to speak when Baal interrupted him.
“Are you two dating?” She asked. Varzoth blushed even more.
Lilith and Varzoth both said at the same time, “No!” Then they looked back at Baal, “Stop trying to change the subject!” After that they spoke independently, and not in unison.
“So Baal, can we trust you?” Asked Lilith.
“I can tell you have some trust issues Lilith, but I promise you I will help to stop the important’s as much as I can.” Just as Baal said that Varzoth felt light-headed, and he felt a tug from the forge. He fell to the floor.
“Var!” Lilith ran to Varzoth’s side, but Varzoth knew what was happening. It was the forge’s energy reaching out all across the village, why? Why now? Varzoth heard Lilith scream at Baal, “What did you do!” But it didn’t matter, a shimmer of light entered into Baal’s chest and Varzoth stood up immediately.
Lilith hugged him with overwhelming strength, and shook him a bit. “I’m ok! I promise. It was the forge, it has revealed Baal here as a guardian.” Lilith looked at Baal then back at Varzoth.
“How about we talk in another room?” Lilith asked, Varzoth nodded.
He and Lilith went outside instead, being a one room house. “So.” He said, “She’s a guardian, we need her help now. Maybe we could finally get something to take down that prison camp.”
Lilith shook her head, “I still don’t trust her, and you like you too much!”
Varzoth was confused, “what are you talking about, we’re doing what you did for me two years ago!” Then he remembered they were outside, “I just don’t want another demon to end up like I would have without your help.”
Now Lilith looked like she was blushing, but she shook her head and looked at him sternly. “Alright, but how are we going to take down that camp? With Baal?”
Varzoth nodded, “Ya.”
Lilith looked suspicious, “What are you thinking?”
“You know what I’m thinking.” He said, “Time to forge some weapons!”
