A couple of years passed, and now, Yuki was in 10th grade, the first year in high school. Takeshi still tutors her, but not that much anymore because she can study all by herself now without any guidance.
Takeshi was proud of her. Yuki gets around 90% or above, but Takeshi wasn’t a dumb guy; he, too, gets good grades like Yuki. He’s the one who taught her after all.
But something has changed, specifically, Takeshi has changed.
Takeshi is now always talking about how humanity is inferior to A. I and robots, he had a weird obsession with them.
Yuki found out recently that he had been researching cybernetics and very weird chemistry. He mixed up random liquids that Yuki never knew existed. Science is weird, that’s what Yuki thought.
Takeshi never told her what liquids or substances he was mixing up, though it did look interesting.
Takeshi was skipping school much more than usual, making his grades drop. Yuki and Takeshi barely see each other anymore. So Yuki decided to go and check up on him at his house.
When Yuki knocked on the door, no one answered, so she tried to open the door, and as it turns out, it was unlocked. She walked inside, not seeing Takeshi’s parents. The house was eerily and creepily quiet. She walked until she saw the basement door, which was open. She went inside and saw Takeshi with huge eye bags.
The huge eyebags made Yuki’s eyes widen a little.
“Huh, who’s there?”
“It’s me, Yuki.”
“Oh, there you are, Yuki. It’s been a while, huh? Like, a month or two?”
“Two months, almost three. What are you doing in your basement? And where are your parents?”
“What am I doing in my basement? Well, first, we humans are weak and so fragile. Humans are so pathetic. Many of us are born with a disability, sometimes, and we could also get sick easily. Not only that, but we are also inferior in physical capabilities, as even a monkey could overpower us. That is why I am working on a special serum that could make humans stronger and better. It is a way to cure illnesses, too.”
Takeshi explained his thoughts while combining substances with all different types of colours. His movements are shaky and slow as he was barely able to sleep at night because he was working all the time.
His eyes are half-opened as he works. The basement was dark, with the only light being an old lightbulb about a meter above Takeshi’s head. Takeshi yawned as he continued talking.
“And my parents…”
His face darkened a little, showing a little bit of annoyance and bitterness.
“They were nagging me not to go to school, and they said that ‘my grades are going down because I was working on stuff that will never get me anywhere in life’, it was so annoying. Sooo…”
Then, Takeshi’s lips curved into a smile, and then, laughter.
“Pffft… ha ha… ha ha ha ha ha!! So I killed them! You would do that, right?! They told me trying to make humans a better species isn’t going to get me anywhere?! What foolishness, am I right, Yuki?! Ahem… I mustn't laugh too hard; I am tired, and I might get hurt. You heard that right, Yuki? ‘I might get hurt’ just from laughing too hard while being exhausted. This is why humans are weak, getting hurt from such a little thing!”
“You… you’re sick in the mind! Why would you kill your own parents?! They’re your family! All because you want to change humans and make them better?!” Her face was red with anger.
“Shut up, Yuki. You wouldn’t understand, I said even a monkey could beat humans in physical strength. I lost my two test subjects because I was so mad, but luckily, I got two more. Can you guess who they are?” Takeshi grinned as he brought out two large tubes that were covered by large blankets.
Yuki’s eyes widened in surprise, and when she understood what Takeshi was saying, her eyes narrowed and her face flushed in pure anger.
“Yup, you understand it right? It’s your parents!” Takeshi laughed and yelled with excitement.
Takeshi took off the large blankets, and there it was, Yuki’s parents in a tube of the same liquid that was in the syringe. The green liquid slowly melted Yuki’s parents. They screamed in pain as their skin slowly melted. Yuki covered her face, not wanting to see her parents die. Then, the screaming stopped, like acid, Yuki’s parents melted into nothing inside the tube.
“Well, that’s too bad, your parents died, Yuki. Well, at least I know what I got wrong, you know what they say, everyone makes mistakes.”
He walked back to his table filled with bottles of failed liquids that didn’t work.
Yuki cried and mourned her parents' loss as Takeshi worked. After a while, her tears dried, and she stood up. Her eyes tell all; she now has a deep hatred for Takeshi.
But then, she started to feel lightheaded, and then everything went black. It turns out, Takeshi used a gas to make her pass out.
When she woke up, she was tied to a chair, unable to move. She struggled and squirmed, but it was useless; these ropes were a little stronger than normal. Then, Takeshi went up to her with the syringe, filled with the green liquid.
“I fixed the serum; it should be able to make you stronger now, but it might hurt a little bit, so bear with it.” Takeshi then stabbed Yuki with the syringe and injected her with the serum.
She screamed in pain, but her screams were blocked by the soundproof panels that worked several times better than normal because of Takeshi upgrading them.
Takeshi laughs, smiles, and grins from the pain and suffering Yuki was experiencing; his serum is working.
“You’ll thank me one day, because I have given you the power to transcend humanity!” Takeshi yells.
How could he do this to me? I... I thought we were friends... was all that time we spent together... a lie? Yuki thought and questioned herself.
The serum doesn’t melt her; it instead enhances every one of her stats. Strength, speed, endurance, agility, and more they all enhanced several hundred to thousands times over, making her the ultimate superhuman.
She almost passed out again from the pain, but then, the pain stopped, and the room was quiet once again. She suddenly breaks out of the ropes and looks at Takeshi, her eyes filled with rage, the veins on her body popping from the rage, and even her blood boils from her rage, literally.
Yuki wanted to kill him; she didn’t think of him as a friend anymore, more of a sadistic bastard that needed to be wiped off the world.
She stood up, and just standing there was already shaking the whole building, making cracks in the floor and walls of the basement. She tried to punch him, but her 15-year-old body couldn’t handle that much power, and she fell down on her knees.
Her breaths were heavy, so she tried to calm down. She took a deep breath and calmed down, letting go of her emotions and suppressing her power.
She began to grasp the power she held. But when she looked up, Takeshi was already gone. In the end, she couldn’t get her revenge.
“How disappointing…” she muttered under her still shaky breath. “Next time I see him, his blood will be flying in all directions, and he will be sent to his grave,” she said with pure, deep hatred in her voice.
For the past 2 years, she has still been doing well in school.
Yuki assumes Takeshi is either dead or alive and hiding somewhere. She made more friends, and she kept her secret of being a superhuman from her friends so as to not shock them. Yuki was scared that if they found out that she was superhuman, they wouldn’t be friends with her anymore.
But every friend she made, they all died. It was either from plane crashes, avalanches, animal attacks, or more. She could never stop them from dying, and the memories and news of them dying still haunt her. It was like her superhuman powers also came with bad luck…
That is when she stopped making friends, and at the same time, Japan went to war with China. And that was when she got hired as a nanny by Rei Shirogami.
