Chapter 2
All the children were led through the airport, which was honestly, really normal. Johnathan kept next to Albert just in case some kind of giant scorpion tried to kill them and they had to run, but Albert assured him that giant scorpions weren’t real, but that Manticores were. Johnathan did not stop, if anything it made him more eager to continue doing as he was. The Mages started stopping groups of students in one spot, and making them run into the wall. The first time around Johnathan thought it was going to look super funny, with a bunch of kids just running into a huge wall. Instead it was like the world slapped him in the face with the kids running right through the wall, making Johnathan stop walking for an instant until Albert got him moving again.
“Why are children running through walls?” asked Johnathan.
Albert shook his head, “Look closely, look more magically.”
Obviously Johnathan had no idea what that meant, but started just going with things by now and stared at the wall. In Johnathan’s vision it started to move and shape itself, it turned into a ten foot tall entrance to a large room. On either side it had six people behind glass windows talking to the people outside of them, and a huge weird symbol at the end of the hall. Johnathan looked at the symbol in awe as it was inscribed so precisely, and then he realized the craziness he was stepping into. All these people will have some kind of cool magical experience before him, why was he here? He was a fluke right? He couldn’t have been here because he was supposed to, right? They started putting the children in lines to the glass windows, Albert was in front of Johnathan and he was excited.
“What class do you think they’ll put us in? Well I’m more wondering about yours, because I already know mine and it’s so exciting to get your magic class. You should be freaking out right now.”
Besides what Albert said Johnathan surprisingly wasn’t excited for this part, like a part of him already knew the answer and didn’t need to have it told to him. “I don’t know why I’m not, it feels like I already know, but I also know I don’t know yet.”
Albert looked at him weirdly, stopping his excitement. “That might be why you're here then, isn’t it?”
“Next!” A grumpy voice came. Albert looked to see it was his turn and stepped forward, leaving Johnathan with no answer.
Albert walked away with a duffle bag, which Johnathan didn’t see there before, but decided to call it magic as that was what he decided to think of for everything in this place.
“Next!” The grumpy voice came again, it made Johnathan jump. He walked forward, “Name and year of birth please.” Behind the window was an old woman with short but sleek black hair and was smoking a cigar.
It took a moment for Johnathan to gather his thoughts, “Johnathan Brody, 16/3/2014.”
“Wow kid, I didn’t ask for your life story!” Said the woman, “Barbra Gorgan never asks for life stories, they’re too long and boring.” She flipped through a few files, and her eyes widened. “Oh, that’s it huh? That Master Knight better know what he’s doing.” She turned to Johnathan, “Your class shall not be given to you until you see the Master Knight in his office.” Before Johnathan could ask anything a big duffel bag appeared next to him, like for Albert. “Go on now, I have nothing else to say.”
Johnathan was completely weirded out by Barbra and walked away with his duffel bag towards Albert. Once he finally found him in the huge group of students, some older than him and some younger.
He asked Albert what that lady’s problem was, “Ms. Gorgan? Well, it may be because of her immortality.”
Johnathan’s eyes widened, “She’s immortal?”
Albert nodded, “She used her magic as a Mage of Death to become immortal by accident, she’s been working here ever since then. She’s super powerful though, and really nice once you get to know her.”
Once Johnathan was able to shake off the idea that one of the people working at the school was immortal he got the courage to ask again, “Is there anyone else who’s immortal.”
“Only her and the Master Knight, and they're both exactly what you would expect as somebody who’s immortal. Knowledged, but kind.”
Johnathan majorly disagreed with that statement, but before he was able to ask more a man appeared in front of them in a white light. Many Ood and Aawd and it was hard to not as well, the light shimmered down to show a man with white hair, and a long robe that didn’t match any other of the teachers. The man raised his hands and a burst of light shot from them, more Oos and Aws. Immediately, all Johnathan could think about was how he knew that this man was the Master Knight.
